The only rumor worth believing is the new iPhone in September. No way will there be a new iPad by the end of the year. It's the middle of the year and the current iPad isn't even released in all countries it's supposed to be! And that 7" iPad... just won't die.

We all need to rethink our careers. I wish we could sit around, make up dates, call ourselves "analysts" and get paid to do so.

Why do we still report on Digitimes "news"? Apple is not going to release 2 10 inch iPads in one year. They're just not. I can believe a mini, but not two flagship models.

Presumably a 7" iPad would have a retina display as well, no? Of course it would be smaller but the pixel density should be the same.

Every rumor about an iPad Nano that I've heard suggests that if it were to be released it would not have a retina display. It'd be a shame though, since the iPod Touch has one.

DigiTimes must play a game of 'rumor darts'. One board has 'release date', another has 'product' and another has 'feature'.

Every week. They play. They post.

Although most women I know carry "purses" that could conceal a 27" iMac, there is no room in there for a 7" anything, because they carry so much crap in these leather duffel bags that whenever they are searching for something it sounds like a kid digging for parts in a giant box of Legos.

I remember finding a reciept from 1978 about half way to the bottom of my Mums handbag last time she passed it to me, and asked me to get her keys.

Normally I like as large a screen as possible, though a 7" iPad has me wondering if it could function for me as a large screen iPod touch :D

If it fits in my pocket and/or I can stick it on my arm....

(Actually my current iPad could ALMOST do that if I could just attach it to my belt... wonder if someone makes a case that would work for that :-D LOVE the extra power, RAM, bigger better screen, much louder speaker...)

wow, I guess no one gets tired of printing the same thing over and over.... this just in. Apple has prototypes in probably every shape and size, how else would they know the optimal size of an iPhone or an iPad?

Yeah none of this is going to happen. iPhone in October. New iPad (new sizes or not) next year.

Come on, DigiTimes. Obviously you're not very good at this lol

Presumably a 7" iPad would have a retina display as well, no? Of course it would be smaller but the pixel density should be the same.

Same pixel density at smaller dimension means different screen resolution specs. This would add yet another form factor to iOS apps, resulting in further bloat of universal apps and developer frustration.

If they were able to reduce the dimension, along with increasing pixel density to maintain the same resolution, I could see it.

But why? What is so mesmerizingly incredible about a smaller iPad? Why do we keep talking about this? Didn't Steve Jobs himself deride a smaller tablet, saying that users would need to bring sandpaper in order to sharpen their fingers to properly interact with the GUI?

Whatever. Let's get a new iMac soon, shall we?

Why are people so unsatisfied? The current iPad size is awesome. Apple will release a 10'' and people will scream for 9''.

We all need to rethink our careers. I wish we could sit around, make up dates, call ourselves "analysts" and get paid to do so.

Seriously. If they can come up with this crap .... my god.... I want this job so I can make actual good analyses instead of this nonsense. I wonder who follows their reports and makes decisions based on them?

analysts ... let's throw a billion different ideas out. eventually one of them will obvs be true

as if they'd release another big iPad this year

I'd be surprised if Apple released a 7" iPad. When I use mine, the term "bulky" doesn't exactly spring into mind. The only thing I feel a smaller size had, would be smaller text. (or God forbid, no difference but a new resolution -- however this would require a brain damage from Apple's part due to all the trouble, only for a minor new hardware design)

It would also be rather "un-Apple" to release a new design with no major advantages, since they try to keep their number of different designs down. So give me a rumor of MacBook Pro dying in favor of a new MacBook Air with beefier specs, and I'll have a much easier time believing that.

No way apple are going to bring out a new iPad only 4 months after the release. Although I could see perhaps a 7 inch version, even though personally, I would not buy one.

My argument has been that the prospects of an iPad mini is not just about being able to squeeze in the purse (picture). Quite simply, the main reason the kindle is found in handbags more frequently than the iPad, is also due to the e-ink / anti-glare properties. It is also dirt cheap so even if it breaks, it won't leave the owner heart broker. Whilst a $500 iPad with very fragile glass?

So I can't see Apple wanting to introduce a 7" iPad simply to follow suit with Amazon's Kindle Fire. The only rationale would be to simply catch the $200 market BUT that would seriously cannibalise one of their biggest and high growth categories. Why would they want to do that simply to introduce another pricing point? Particularly when they can sell last year's tech and/or refurbs for close to the $200 mark anyway.

iPhone 5 in September(ish): yes. A no brainer.

7-8" iPad in August: maybe. I do think they will release one, just not sure about the timing.

New 10" iPad in Q4: NFW. The current new iPad still runs laps around the best (upcoming) Android hardware, and Apple is only now rolling it out to many countries around the world. 12 months from the last release is a safe bet. Q4 is not.

I'm thinking maybe 1024x768...except as I type that I realize THAT might not work either as interface elements might not work. And I don't think it's a great idea to have have developers explicitly code for...what would this be? THREE separate interfaces + 4 or 5 separate resolutions?

IF shrinking the exact same programs from a 9.7" screen to a 7" screen leaves them very functional, then this seems fine, but I am getting worried about all these sizes/resolutions...

Not to mention all the hardware platforms. There's at least THREE general sets of specs to develop for now. 4 if you count the iPad 3's 2 extra GPUs + 4x resolution screen (though that might not require that much tweaking).

Apple does a terrible job providing any way to know what general level of specs are needed for a given program. It's left developers sitting there spelling out individual devices it runs on in their description, which started absurd and is going to quickly become unworkable as presumably a 4th set of specs will hit with the iPad 4.

I've been thinking Apple should maybe just use a numbering system, or letters or whatever. ARM 11 + it's fixed function GPU is "1". Cortex A8 + SGX 335 or whatever that was is "2". The iPhone 5/iPad 2/3 is "3", etc...

The 7" iPad rumor is believable also. It's going to replace the iPod Touch and it's a perfect device for a school time release in August like the touch always was..

The one that isn't believable is the 10" iPad. Apple has stuck to a yearly release.
