Cultural relevance from a man in his 60's in a cat t-shirt....

I think it is a grizzly bear, which is even more stupid, even though the band Grizzly Bear is pretty cool, but I bet that ultra-cool producer most likely does not even like them, and maybe never even heard them... too busy creating "beats." Cause hop-hop is so fresh and new!

I have regularly visited this forum but have never commented before. It is amazing the underlying tone of the comments by some, particularly in reference to Dr. Dre. Apple currently sells the Beats by Dr. Dre product in it stores. So it is clearly not an issue of the product being associated with Apple. The thought of Dr. Dre earning so much from this deal, or his association with the executives at Apple makes some on this forum want to vomit. If it was only Jim Lovine, not so much of a problem.

Who knows what's true? We'll find out soon.

However, if this is true, I was way wrong about Tim Cook. These two turkeys are not worth $320,000 much less $3.2 billion.

The reason so many have left ios for android is because of substance not flair.

I am ashamed to be a part of a community that is so closed-minded and is filled with seemingly old white males whining about a dynamic world and culture. These are very smart moves by Apple, and believe it or not, I don't think they want to fade away into obscurity by not keeping up with the times.

Hip-hop is some of the most tired, un-fresh, nothing-new music genres in existence. i wish the genre was more musically innovative, but really, hip hop is the music genre for music-listeners who, actually, are not that into cutting-edge, innovative music. Hell, jazz is more creative than hip hop.

I think that it's safe to say that if Apple buys a company, they have a reason. They don't make acquisitions unless it makes absolute sense. If anything, they just poach people from a company. If Apple wanted Iovine, they'll hire him as a consultant or some such. If they buy beats, it's because they want beats. There's a decade+ of precedent for this, so I'm not why we have people speculating otherwise.

Oh dear old man

If Tim Cook thinks the cool brands are Nike and Beats he is so out of touch with whats happening in the world.

Stinks of desperation to me.

Didn't Apple once set the trend and not chase the trends .

If Cook buys Beats, it won't be because Beats is "cool". It will be because Beats will somehow make apple a lot of $$.

I'm amazed the sheer amount of hate that's going on here.

But then again that's normal before anything big - the iPod was royally hated by MacRumors members when it came out, the whole internet thought that iPad was the stupidest name ever and it was "just a big iPod touch."

Something I've learned is that the more controversial an idea Apple has, the more likely it'll be a good decision :p

The iPod was an unknown and upcoming product at the time.

Beats headphones have already been around long enough before this aquisition to build a bad reputation.

Please please do not turn this company into some ghetto trolling gadget factory. The only single reason I am loyal to apple is because they sell classy products based on quality and it's clean image. If they turn into an urban Phuk my bitch company I'm done.

You sound extremely ignorant what do you mean by "ghetto trolling gadget factory" What are you attempting to imply?

If people in 'urban' communities couldn't afford Apple before, what makes you think they could afford it (or care to) after this acquisition? Your logic like a lot of others on this forum is extremely conservative and guess what Apple has to evolve eventually so why not start now?

They see this as a huge benefit for the company and no one on this forum is the CEO or on the Advisory board to keep moaning about something that's in the works.

It's $3.2 Billion we're talking about it's NOT like Apple don't have that money in the bank AND more!

Ya, I don't buy this story either. No two people are worth 3.2 BILLION dollars (unless they are people who already have 3.2 BILLION dollars.) These rumors are getting more ridiculous every day.

In my mind, if Apple wants to pay 3.2 BILLION dollars in the general direction of Dre and Iovine, it is to purchase the Beats brand, which, like it or not, sells a crapload of (kinda crummy) headphones at great margins. And, like it or not, Beats is also a "Hip" tech/hardware brand with the younger crowd. I think it is not a crazy idea that a "Beats" phone from Apple, decontented and cheaper with it's own design ethos, might allow apple to get into some lower margin businesses, to feed the higher margin businesses... Maybe Apple could even reassign an engineer or twenty to improve Beats headphones...

Bingo, we have a winner! I honestly don't understand how some people on this forum don't get this acquisition. Once under the Apple umbrella Beats will appeal to a new audience as well.

I don't listen to Hip-Hop (not interested in Dr.Dre especially). I don't care for the Beats brand but I'd be a fool to deny it's appeal for younger people and the music subscription service Apple can/will build off of.

Once again it's just 3 Billion dollars. Pennies for Apple.

Yes. I have been trying to express the same sentiment in my posts above. Beats is not hip, cutting edge or trend setting...chasing the trends is a prefect description.

I'm going to go ahead and assume you're not a Millennial. As a Millennial, I can assure you, both Nike and Beats are extremely "what's happening" in our world. I don't have a male friend who doesn't wear knee high Nike socks or have Nike slides and a pair of Beats. Most of those same guys have iPhones.

You're kind of proving the point.

FTFY
Does he ever not wear a hat?

--
Also, Do you think he'll have a hat on when he takes his Apple Executive Headshot?

That would be hilarious. I think he will demand a clause that that states he is allowed to wear a hat during the photoshoot.

In regards to Jimmy, you clearly have no clue who he is or what connections in the music business he has. This is WHY Apple is paying for the brand.

I get that some of you don't like Hip-Hop, I too don't care for it but it's asinine to make remarks when you don't know much about the parties involved.

It was the Apple culture that built Beats, in a way Beats has always been a part of Apple.

Yep most people on this forum do not have a clue the designer of the beats headphones was the one who hired Jony Ive.

MACKLEMORE LYRICS

"Jimmy Iovine"

(feat. Ab-Soul)

I put my life on the line
I roll them dice and I'm fine
Cause all I ever dreamt about was makin' it
They ain't giving it, I'm taking it

I’m taking it, taking it, They ain’t giving it
I’m taking it, taking it, They ain’t giving it
I’m taking it, taking it, They ain’t giving it
I’m taking it, taking it, I need all that ****

(Steal myself a record deal.
Steal myself a record deal.
Steal myself a record deal.)

If I just went in and stole it the police would've noticed
Gotta be strategic, creeping, go in, leave with that motive
Hold up, my plan is forming, alright, case in this building
Watch these rappers that rappin' walk in and leave out with millions (millions)
Headed in and sway there, open that front door
Interscope printed out right by the entrance door closes
Not a metaphor, then I start towards
That front, that’s right, where you check in
Dressed in an uniform, acting like a janitor
All blue, jumpsuit, why shoot?
Bloodthirsty for the money like a bull
Looking in the eyes of the matador (**** you!)
Carrying 2 cans of paint,
Security looks at me awkward
I say third floor I’m late,
Paintin' Jimmy Iovine's office
Holding my breath ‘bout to faint
I’m scared to death that he stops me
Heart beating so loud that you can hear the echo in that lobby
And see I'm breaking down if I don’t make it out
Then I’m leaving town with that contract
And I’m spazzing out, cover the in or out
His chair and I’m taking him hostage
I don’t give a ****, step into the elevator press three
Now I’m headed up (Heist!)
What they don't know is a gun in the paint can
And I’m ready and willing to bust ‘em, I'm ****ing desperate
Stuck in this recession now what you think
But if I could get signed my luck is destined
My future depends on ink
And secretary at the front of the entrance staring right at me
I walk up she whispers go ahead and then gives me a wink

I put my life on the line
I roll them dice and I'm fine
Cause all I ever dreamt about was makin' it
They ain't giving it, I'm taking it

I’m taking it, taking it, They ain’t giving it
I’m taking it, taking it, They ain’t giving it
I’m taking it, taking it, They ain’t giving it
I’m taking it, taking it, I need all that ****

I made past security, the secretary, the cubicles
But it’s weird, it’s like this room I’ve walked into is unusual
Thought it would be shiny and beautiful
Thought it would be alive and like musical
But it feels like someone died, it’s got the vibe of a funeral
There’s numbers on a chalkboard
CDs boxed in cardboard
Artists that flopped, that got dropped and never got to be sophomores

Graphic designers are sitting around
Waiting for albums that never come out
Complainin’ that they have nobody in house
Wonderin’ what they make art for
I start thinking, am I in the right place?
Just walk forward, see plaques on the wall
Oh yea, in a second those will be all yours

Finally see an office with a mounted sign, heaven sent
Big block silver letters, read it out loud: President (nice!)
This was my chance to grab that contract and turn and jet
Right then felt a cold hand grab on the back of my neck

He said: we’ve been watching you, so glad you could make it
Your music, it’s so impressive in this whole brand you created
You're one hell of a band, we here think you’re destined for greatness
And with that right song we all know that you’re next to be famous

Now I’m sorry. I’ve had a long day remind me now what your name is?
That’s right, Macklemore, of course, today has been crazy
Anyway, you ready? We’ll give you a hundred thousand dollars.
After your album comes out we’ll need back that money that you borrowed (mm-hm)
– So it’s really like a loan.
– A loan? Come on, no!
We're a team, 360 degrees, we will reach your goals!
You’ll get a third of the merch that you sell out on the road
Along with a third of the money you make when you’re out doing your shows
Manager gets 20, booking agent gets 10
So ****, after taxes you and Ryan have 7% to split
That’s not bad, I’ve seen a lot worse,
No one will give you a better offer than us (mm-hm)
I replied I appreciate the offer, thought that this is what I wanted
Rather be a starving artist than succeed at getting ****ed

You must hang out at the same Gym I go to...

Well, it's still a ton o'dollars. But look at what other tech companies have paid for some of their acquisitions. Some of those acquisitions look crazy to me... but... what do I know....

It's a lot of money for people that don't have it. However, Apple has it. ;)

Also you're exactly right about other tech companies. Facebook bought what's app for $19 Billion. This is like a bargain for us!

$3.2 Billion for a profitable (established) brand that'll come with a Music Subscription service (future of music/content at this point) as well as other perks, etc. People are really freaking out about something that's not too bad of an acquisition.

OMG. That's right, it's always about about racism isn't it? This a a terrible move by Apple. Being associated with the trashy ghetto scene is bad news. Trash is bad whether it's white trash or black trash.

Wouldn't partnering with a real sound company like Bose be a more logical choice? Apple, do you want to procure quality sound designs, or gimmicks? Apple is possibly making this move because they've lost a good chunk of the hip-hop/rap generation to the Samsung/Android phones

How is jimmy Iovine trash???
How is are the people that work at Beats trash and let's not forget they are ex-Apple employees

They could partner up with audio engine but again the founder is an ex Apple employee. These guys are smarter than you think

----------

EXACTLY! ! !

My faith on this forum has been restored. Thank you friend!
If you look at all that ex-Apple employees that ventured out on their own on good terms you will see their businesses off flourishing.
