Apple is holding at least five announcements for later in the year that will not arrive at the company's "Let loose" special event next week, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In a report detailing his expectations for Apple's upcoming event, Gurman noted that there are a total of five things that the company is holding for later in the year:

  • AI features: While Apple may tease new AI capabilities with the next-generation iPad Pro, Apple will not "formally unveil" the features until WWDC in June where iPadOS 18 will be previewed.
  • Lower-cost entry-level iPad: Apple is apparently working on a version of the 10th-generation iPad introduced in 2022 with a lower price. The current model is $449, sitting in the lineup above the $329 ninth-generation iPad that remains in the lineup. The company is likely to phase out this older model and bring the price down of the redesigned model, but Gurman says this "isn't expected until the end of the year at the earliest."
  • Seventh-generation iPad mini: A refreshed iPad mini is said to be in the works featuring improved performance thanks to a faster chip, but it is not due to be announced next week.
  • New Macs: While the new iPad Pro models may contain the M4 chip, a processor that will later come to the Mac, Apple is not planning to unveil any new Mac models at the "Let loose" event.
  • Fourth-generation AirPods: Apple is said to be nearing production of the fourth-generation AirPods, but these will not launch until the fall alongside the iPhone 16 lineup.

Apple's "Let loose" event is expected to focus on the unveiling of redesigned iPad Pro models with OLED displays, two new iPad Air models, a high-end Magic Keyboard accessory, and a new Apple Pencil. It will take place on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 a.m. Pacific Time (10 a.m. Eastern Time), with a live stream to be available on Apple.com and on YouTube as usual.

I always love Gurman’s liberal use of the word may. Apple may do this. Apple may do that. Apple may or may not do a lot of things. It’s a great way to make predictions without being at fault when he’s inevitably wrong. Then he changes what he said to deflect.

I mean these are kind of a given. Why not throw in "Iphone 16, M4 iPad Pro, and AVP II."
And the next Homepod
The 12" MacBook
The 16" iPad
The Apple Car
The Apple Robot
The Apple Personal Protection Drone
Apple's acquisition of all major sports leagues
Apple's annexation of various small countries
The Apple Elevator to Mars
...there's A LOT they won't announce

Judging by the artwork the event will be focused around education/schools.

So yeah, we can expect new cheap iPad with old processor, new Apple Pencil, announce of some new education-focused features for AVP that will probably be available after WWDC (yeah they gotta sell this thing, I am more than sure they will at least try to push it into education market).

Also maybe there will be some minuscule updates to Freeform and Notes apps.

What I am more than sure about the event is that it is going to be boring prerecorded stuff, same as fifth year in a row. Back in the days I always tuned in for every Apple keynote/event. Now I would probably rather watch some movie instead (and read Macrumors article after)

AirPods Pro fit is poor for me, so recently switched to Beats Solo 4.

Waiting to see what the next base AirPods have in store. That design has always fit me better.

It's been 962 days since the last update, according to the MacRumors Buyer's Guide... in the world of consumer tech, this update speed is starting to reach levels that can only be described as George RR Martin-esque. o_O

I mean who cares right? Is this negatively affecting you? It’s a rumors site buddy. That’s what he does. Do you get angry at Mel Kiper when he is wrong about what team drafts a player. It’s part of the gig.

It'll be interesting to hear how many times 'M4' will be said.

I suspect this will be the primary focus of the event.
Other than repositioning of camera, the iPads will essentially be the same but with a M4 chip on the Pro models.

For me, the wild card is the Apple Pencil.
It's new capabilities can be the showstopper and make a 'meh' event into a really interesting one.

Please new keyboards and mice with usb c! I’m so over lightning for sooooo many reasons. There really is no excuse at this point other than the usual Apple greed in delaying
