It only makes sense, when you're terrible at handling your finances or are exceptionally clumsy. Otherwise, just bite the bullet when you break the phone and repair it or buy a new one.As time has gone on, I have come around to the mindset that rather than dumping hundreds of dollars into "coverage" that Apple will then use their discretion to deny when you need it, you're better off just foregoing it and upgrade/replace a device if it becomes broken or non-functional. I mean, after 2 years I'm ready to upgrade anyway. Why spend money upfront to, at best, end up with an obsolete replacement device?
That’s because you live in the RDF field of the haters and critics on tech blog forums. In the real world things are quite different. You should try looking at reality sometime.I'm surprised Apple News has that many subscribers!
I had a free four-month trial of Apple Arcade and never used it once 🤣.So, nobody pay for Apple Arcade…
Personally, I pay for iCloud in the 200gb plan. I use it to synchronise my Apple devices
I pay for Apple Arcade. I just don't play it. (AppleOne is the culprit.)So, nobody pay for Apple Arcade…

I seem to be using it more as times goes on. Not too much. Enough that I would miss it if I got rid of AppleOne.I'm surprised Apple News has that many subscribers!
my kid did that a week ago. I told him he won't last a month. He said, "Challenge accepted."Replace your iPhone with a dumb phone that just makes calls and sends texts. Nothing to back up.
The fact that 36% of users don't subscribe would seem to refute that fact. This is a FORCED service that you can't nearly use even a single device without it.
The way iPhones come configured by default, they use gobs of iCloud storage in no time and Apple's messaging tells people very little about how to deal with it without paying for more storage. It's nothing more than a shakedown and Apple should be ashamed for it.

As long as they don't use iCloud services (Mail, Photos, Drive), I think most people would be fine without paying for iCloud.
Always driven me insane that there aren't finer grained controls on how much storage Photos can use on iOS/iPadOS devices
Who said anything about not using the phone? There are certainly popular alternatives to iCloud Drive, Photos, and Mail.yeah as long as you don't use your iPhone you're fine without iCloud.
yeah as long as you don't use your iPhone you're fine without iCloud.
I use my phone just fine without paying for iCloud and I can still backup my phone to it.. I backup locally, too and sync my photos locally, so my iCloud backup size is only 1.5gb. My phone is 256gb.
Contacts, calendar and mail are with Google.
It's not as simple as it is with an Android device, where you just plug it in to your computer, unlock the Android and tell it to allow access over USB, and then access most of it like a regular drive. So taking 20 min and play your phone into your preferred computer is not “normal”?.
Ok, got it

Possibly a lot of people who don't care, but get it "free" with their premier tier Apple One sub they have for Fitness+?I'm surprised Apple News has that many subscribers!
I want the ability to access the backed up files individually on the PC, though. It's even more simple. Plug in your iPhone, approve it on the phone and Mac/PC. Hit backup. Check the automatic backup tick.
Forever after that. Plug in it, wait. That's all.
You forgot that you have to launch Finder and click on your phone first - that’s what makes it so complicated /sIt's even more simple. Plug in your iPhone, approve it on the phone and Mac/PC. Hit backup. Check the automatic backup tick.

Actually (I think) an NAS can do it.Probably because there is no other practical way to automatically backup device content.
Nonsense. I don't use it on my iPad.This is a FORCED service that you can't nearly use even a single device without it.
