Now you got it. No company should make a deal with the government of Ireland, because it will promise you huge benefits of illegal state aid, you will end up paying back with interests even a decade later. Do not trust in Ireland! It's not a serious country.

for the most part this was true afew years back.

Irish banks/credit unions got absolutely destroyed by regulators in the last few years and they've been forced kicking and screaming to clean up their acts. in the next couple years, you'll see the banking / credit unions in Ireland drop considerably as they're being forced by the government to consolodate for better regulation.

wondering how much of that will translate to the government and their tax deals.

Isn't there a big fuss about Apple not paying its fair share of tax in the US either though?

it was stated by Congress that Apple did correctly follow all laws. they just felt that Apple shouldn't have used the loopholes the law allowed them.

The arrangement was not available to other companies. That is precisely the point.

actually we don't know that because we don't know what the details of this alleged arrangement was. it fact Ireland is denying there was a special arrangement

EU countries are not supposed to make tax deals with individual companies (like it is common in the US). Instead they should make tax laws equal for all companies in each country. If all companies in Ireland are able to reduce their effective tax rate to 0.005% then the Apple tax is legal.
