" Developer tools for Xcode. "
Android Studio now has Gemini.

For the last 6 months I've been flicking between Xcode and Safari with a window on ChatGPT4.
It's astounding what it can do to your productivity as a software engineer.

I hope that Apple makes Xcode AI something more like a plugin where you can select what LLM you want as your coding buddy rather than fixed.

It would speed things up for me so much more if I didn't have to cut'n'paste and describe what I'm working on each time but instead just hit a key sequence that automatically asked for an opinion on say a crash or a bit of code throwing up errors or deprecation warnings.

I don't use Gemini, I still use browser ChatGPT4 with Studio.
There's a couple of ChatGPT plugins for Studio but I've found them "expensive" to use.
Ask a question in a browser window and GPT4 won't charge you more than a couple of cents.
Ask a question using a plugin and it can be 30-40c by the time you've got your solution. Nice earner for someone.

Honestly, I'm probably going to use suggested email replies often lol. I already use ChatGPT to help with emails. Not to write my emails for me, but for inspiration. I'm always self conscious about how emails come across because they lack human emotion of talking to someone face to face.

And yes, I get it's ironic I'm writing that when talking about AI lol.

I am fine with sms. Rcs could and should stay with lagdroid as far as I’m concerned.

I’m going to be annoyed if I can’t turn it off but seeing as we can turn off iMessage idk why we wouldn’t be able to turn off rcs.

Because i have no use for it nor do I need it to talk to android users. SMS works just fine and I have iMessage.
that’s…the weirdest reasoning I’ve ever heard and doesn’t really answer my question but word 😂

What about the Fitness app and rings? It's a shame and disgrace that such a powerful company, collecting data about my health, age, medications, heart rate, sleep, ECG, etc., can't create adaptive rings! Thank God for Gentler, but it's still a shame for Apple that such a simple thing is so broken.

Bro probably uses WhatsApp too 😂

In Power On it said that AI features on device "will be supported by iPhone, iPad and Mac chips released in the last year or so" Does that mean that only iPhone 14 and 15 will get AI features and every other iPhone left behind?

Here's my thoughts:

>Photo retouching:

I thought that was already happening automatically. What's different?

>Voice memo transcription:

That's interesting. Hopefully it's on-device.

> Suggested replies to emails and messages.

My watch can do that already. What'll change?

>Auto-generated emojis based on the content of a user's messages, providing all-new emoji for any occasion beyond the existing catalog.

So the computer creates its own emojis? Huh?

> Improved Safari web search.

Isn't Safari search just Google? Is Apple getting into the web search industry now?

>Smart recaps of missed notifications and individual messages, web-pages, news articles, documents, notes, and more

I remember my iBook G3 allowed you to highlight text, then go to a menu and choose "create summary". What's the difference?

>Developer tools for Xcode

Now that could be interesting, if you use Xcode.

I hope you can turn this off. I don’t want to be a beta tester for this garbage. Google is unusable with constant wrong answers due to AI now.
I’ll be peeved if any of these AI features are not “opt in” by default. Absolutely nothing on that list that made me think “Oooh! I want that!”

BTW, Smart recaps of missed notifications sounds like a nightmare. What constitutes “missed”? I receive lots of notifications that I don’t acknowledge on the phone because frankly, they are not that important. They flash on my watch, I see them, and that’s that. I don’t even touch my watch when I see them. Don’t need the phone producing even more content based on content I deliberately ignore.

As for the other “smart recap” stuff, is actually reading and trying to comprehend what is written a hardship these days?
