The "stock up now for August" message sent out would put some weight behind some refreshes v. soon. Other things happening sometime soon:
- Siel-Satis-Radio event.
- Back to School end US 15th September - though Apple have launched whilst in a BTS.
- The Expo Remix 2008 17-20 September, so they could press release the day before on a Tuesday, then have it rolled out to the Expo Remix? Maybe Apple staying away from the Event means that they'll have a rival launch, or just launching at their own time. (What's with the 10-12 time slots for new products at the Paris Expo - they expecting something?)
Is below too optimistic?

ACD: Will Apple wait until WWDC 2009? Then they could maybe talk some more about resolution independence at MWSF, give developers just enough lead time for WWDC to bring in a new DisplayPort/HDCP type ACD and bring in some new functionality? It's expensive to make the larger LCD screens so they could do a bump transition. Apple does usually do quiet skunkwork-like projects as a norm - They could easily be brewing up some visual related changes - iWork 09, iLife 09 are going to hit sometime... If all the screens are going to be 16:9 (ACDS, laptops, desktop Macs) - this helps them with bringing in bluray if they want, and maybe also HD in general. Snow Leopard is in part about very good graphics. Why not shift up a gear and move towards this in preparation for SL (which is slated to launch in only 8 months time or so). Doesnt BR need native res 16:9? I'd love them to work a bit more with Elgato - their 2.5 update was great - content streaming from Mac to iPhone/Touch, something that was basically best in show at the Paris Expo last year.
My suspicion is that Apple would release iPhone and Touch video recording functionality alongside new iLife, with updates within the iMovie (and maybe even DVD if we're lucky) to take this into account.
Other things - Nike presumably has some news - they're already kitting out some gyms, and could do so so sooooooooo much with the iPhone and Touch capabilities, via an app, and probably also an online community. I'd imagine that the numbers of iPhone and Touch users who also use sports is high.
Is Nike going to use a stand at Paris just for Nike plus, a product that's 2 years old or the the new sensor and sportsband kit from 5 months ago, a product which is all about not having to use a nano in the mix?
iPods: Big sign of iPod refresh was the rumor about Argos getting signage discounting iPods - a fairly sure sign of a sale to get rid of stock for a new lineup.
