I'm afraid they will release the new iPods in the first few weeks of September, and all the other stuff will be released later... more waiting for a new Macbook Pro and Cinema display.

Wait a moment, are we basically talking about a refresh of all Apple hardware besides the Airport, iPhone, Xserve and Mac Pro (well maybe new graphic cards and a Bu-Ray drive...)?

Its the season for the new iPods, and I'm SO getting a new iPod Touch for myself and maybe a Nano as a gift. As for Mac related products, new Macbooks / Pros are due for an update, but right now I don't see the window opening for new peripherals like the Cinema Displays, let alone a new product . These must wait a few more months for the glory that is Macworld - when the new year REALLY starts for Apple aficionados :D

Would be great. I've been waiting a new Mac Pro & Cinema Display release since May and timing seems to be just right. This current PowerMac Quad has now seen about three years of hard work so it's going to be replaced almost instantly the new model is out.

In September it will be a whole year since I made my last Apple purchase, and I'm in desperate need of some retail therapy.

I think we're going to see some really big updates in the next month, including the addition of blu-ray. Too bad my purchasing budget is pretty much down to zero right now. I'll just have to start making my Christmas wish list a little early this year! :D

well *pout* no alumi-MB means no go for me. Guess I'll just hold on to my 12" PB a bit longer...

Glad to see the Mini isn't dead, now only if they would drop it $100 they might actually sell a few of them!

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5C1 Safari/525.20)

This is good news. I wonder what other goodies Apple is going to bring. This also makes me think that the 9th is more likely since I wouldn't think that they would ask resellers to halt orders more than a couple of weeks before hand.

The big question is this: are the big retailers such as Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, etc. starting to run out of inventory of various iPod models? I haven't heard such things going on right now, unlike last year when 2G nanos and 5.5G iPods essentially disappeared from store shelves by late August 2007.

Apple Italy usually dumps EOL machines to APRs (Apple Premium Resellers) just BEFORE new machines are released. They haven't yet (as of august 26th)...

I can see that happening. Apple doesn't usually overhaul that many products all at once. Might be another event in October.

The "stock up now for August" message sent out would put some weight behind some refreshes v. soon. Other things happening sometime soon:

- Siel-Satis-Radio event.
- Back to School end US 15th September - though Apple have launched whilst in a BTS.
- The Expo Remix 2008 17-20 September, so they could press release the day before on a Tuesday, then have it rolled out to the Expo Remix? Maybe Apple staying away from the Event means that they'll have a rival launch, or just launching at their own time. (What's with the 10-12 time slots for new products at the Paris Expo - they expecting something?)

Is below too optimistic?

Product; Last updated; Days since release, average cycle; Likely update date
iPod classic Sept 05 2007; 356(238) SEPT
iPod Touch Feb 05, 2008; 203(153) OCT
iPod nano Sept 05, 2008; 356(268) SEPT
Mac mini - August 07, 2007; 385(188) SEPT plz
MacBook - Feb 26, 2008; 182(192) SEPT
MacBook Air - jan 15 2008; 224(N/A) ?
MacBook Pro - Feb 26, 2008; 182(194) OCT->
Mac Pro - Jan 08, 2008; 231(217) OCT->
ACD - Apr 04, 2007; 510(230) NFI

ACD: Will Apple wait until WWDC 2009? Then they could maybe talk some more about resolution independence at MWSF, give developers just enough lead time for WWDC to bring in a new DisplayPort/HDCP type ACD and bring in some new functionality? It's expensive to make the larger LCD screens so they could do a bump transition. Apple does usually do quiet skunkwork-like projects as a norm - They could easily be brewing up some visual related changes - iWork 09, iLife 09 are going to hit sometime... If all the screens are going to be 16:9 (ACDS, laptops, desktop Macs) - this helps them with bringing in bluray if they want, and maybe also HD in general. Snow Leopard is in part about very good graphics. Why not shift up a gear and move towards this in preparation for SL (which is slated to launch in only 8 months time or so). Doesnt BR need native res 16:9? I'd love them to work a bit more with Elgato - their 2.5 update was great - content streaming from Mac to iPhone/Touch, something that was basically best in show at the Paris Expo last year.

My suspicion is that Apple would release iPhone and Touch video recording functionality alongside new iLife, with updates within the iMovie (and maybe even DVD if we're lucky) to take this into account.

Other things - Nike presumably has some news - they're already kitting out some gyms, and could do so so sooooooooo much with the iPhone and Touch capabilities, via an app, and probably also an online community. I'd imagine that the numbers of iPhone and Touch users who also use sports is high.
Is Nike going to use a stand at Paris just for Nike plus, a product that's 2 years old or the the new sensor and sportsband kit from 5 months ago, a product which is all about not having to use a nano in the mix?

iPods: Big sign of iPod refresh was the rumor about Argos getting signage discounting iPods - a fairly sure sign of a sale to get rid of stock for a new lineup.

We are still missing the mandatory reports about arriving suspicous containers loaded with unknown secret hardware...

Soo pretty much everything but the iMac and iPhone is going to be updated soon if all goes well with the cycle. Are the planets aligning for Apple?

Go to bed Arn. ;)

He can't... He is too addicted to these rumors. Hey man, I once stayed up late myself looking for news - only to get disappointed as the release did not happen. Besides MR is now is life and income....

Hmmmm... WWDC 08?

I watched the rumor sites updating what was going on the whole day at work, waiting to see if a new MB would be released or if there would be "one more thing". It was pretty silly. ;)

It does seem that expectations for the 9th of September Apple Event are running high. Almost as high as they were for MacWorld.

Which begs a question. If a September expection is this high, and Macworld is only 4 months later...... What awesome thing do they have in store for Macworld, if all these rumored updates (to what seems to be the entire apple line, all products (except the iphone)) do actually get released in September.

Could it be:

1. Ballmer gives up the throne and conceeds to acknowledge Apple is the future and beefs up the macbu? - Not holding my breath.

2. Apple acquires Axiotron and they release an affordable tablet - well, the tablet rumor has been out thre for ever; don't know that apple will hurt an OEM partner unless Axiotron is not doing so well and they want to keep the product alive.

3. Snow Leopard is ready earlier than expected? - Umm, may rather wait until they deem it Gold Master.

I have a feeling that maybe September is not going to be that great, just a few speed bumps here or there - but then again Christmas is only 4 months away.....

I hope it all gets released at the same time...also hope what happened with the failed launch of MobileMe and the iPhone together doesn't make them delay some things.

I doubt they will release everything at once because of this. But then again, the only real problem they had with that release was MobileMe and some AT&T problems, unless I missed something, which I might have because I don't care too much about iPhone. What most of us are expecting is iPods and notebooks, which are all hardware. The only thing they would have to worry about is iTunes, which they can just release a week before or after and to make sure that the same catastrophe with MobileMe doesn't happen. Also, iTunes is older, while MobileMe is new, so there's less of a chance that they will have problems.

Anyhow, I have no idea what to think about the release dates. I just want a new MB, and I need one soon whether it be new or old.
