They better update the mini. Dell's Studio Hybrid destroys it in every area except looks. More importantly Dell has a great price point for a machine that can do much more than the mini can in its current form.

The mini needs wireless-n, HDMI, a decent GPU, and full support for the Al keyboard (it still doesn't see the Al KB until after the OS loads, so you can't boot from a CD or BootCamp without manually changing the startup drive).

Do you think, they will update the MacBook while the current back to school promotion is running? I doubt it, cause it should be the most popular back to school item, by far.

The other models seem to be poosible candidates for an update, though.

Wow lots of hoping for the mini from this community. COunt me in!! I really need to buy a new mac but I want a updated mini.

Side note: I wonder how well the mini sells compared to the rest of the line?

common, new cinema displays are a MUST!!! at the very least, get built in isight cameras in there. i think the current form factor is good and where apple wants to be with the brushed metal look. let's see better LED adoption as well!!

While rumors have focused on iPod Nano and iPod Touch updates as early as September 9th, the fate of the MacBook Pros and other updates have been less clear.
I hope "less clear" just means "less clear" and not "it's not coming on 9/9."

But I still have a feeling that Mac updates won't happen until September 30 or so.

Unfortunately, reseller signals can be misleading and could simply represent temporary supply shortages. Best Buy, for example, had shortages of MacBooks towards the end of July.[/QUOTE]So just because we see a bunch of supply shortages doesn't mean we will see updates at the same or similar timeframe (September 9).

Yeah...so expectations for September 9th are pretty ****ing high right about now.
Yup. That's why I'm keeping my expectations reasonable. New iPods, as rumored. iTunes 8 with some new features. iTunes 8 is a significant upgrade but not a redesign as I had hoped. Possible "One More Thing" relating to a (mini-)tablet, and that's just because there's a bunch of those rumors floating around in the last year.

Yes

Ummm yes, MacPro is due for a revision. My G5 is going to die any day now (I can sense it) and I'm gonna need a new desktop mac. And I sure as hell aint buyin' a MacPro since its due for a revision. 1..2..3.. apple GO

So, let me get this straight, first we get rumors that about 80% of Apple's products are going to be seeing updates on Sept. 9 . . .

. . . then Sept. 9 comes and we only get a couple of ipod updates and maybe one other product and everyone screams about not getting the specific product updates they want.

This seems to be the cycle of the rumors we see (but that doesn't mean I'm no hopping for a ton of updates! :p)

EXACTLY!

That's where a lot of the disappointment comes from. That and that the actual updates are "not good enough."

Tell.

From what I can tell, after looking at our distributor's stock: All mac computers are in low stock, many at zero.

The shuffle 2g is not selling well, large stock of it. The 32G Touch is in fairly large stock too.

There are still a number of hold-overs from earlier products clogging inventory (Lanyard headphones for 1st get nano for example.)

Apple seems in danger of repeating the mistakes of the past in regard to having too many products out for a given niche market. Anyone remember fondly the Amelio days of nearly hundreds of models out that only varied by the processor?

If I was Apple, I'd kill the 1G shuffle, the 8G touch, the 80G classic and the 4G nano.

ilife '08 has been discontinued but it might be replaced by another product that we can't see. We are not authorized so there are some items that we can't see. They do sell the 'personalized nano' which I thought was interesting. I thought it was only a direct order through the online apple store.

Actually...

Actually when I look for specific models I find stock. Like tons of Mini's and quite a number of Macbooks. A fair number of Air's and a rather large number of the low end MBP and a fair amount of the high end 15". The 17" has low stock but considering its price, that's probably not a bad thing. I have never seen one in public.

Only one Mac Pro model listed in standard inventory and there is a bunch of it and about 6 'BTO' Mac Pro SKU's with a few showing stock which is odd.

I don't know what to make of these numbers. Is the economy getting to Apple too? Will there be a huge 'fire sale' of the older revisions IF new models come out soon? Will they end up filling some pit in the desert? Hard to tell. But with over a thousand pieces of assorted Mac hardware, this distributer is going to be happy shipping it all back to Apple for exchange of the new models...

Haha... you took the words right out of my mouth.

The usual cycle of building anticipation and enhanced sensitivity to rumors and distribution channel notices, culminating in a September 9 event, where teh Steve proudly announces iTunes 8, a new iPod (nano?), one revamped Mac product any maybe a price cut/capacity update somewhere - not to forget dwelling upon the latest sales figures for iPhones. ;)

I suppose Apple could have BTO options as the number of total models increases. I can see that happening in the next revision with GPS.

WAIT… WHAT?

iLife '09??!! :eek::confused:

I knew I should have stuck to an August/September release of iLife '09 and iWork '09 (with the new notebooks)! :D:p

Since...

Since people are dreaming about features that *could* come out.

How about this: A Touch with a camera. A usable camera. Interesting idea... And why the hell not? I'd like that better than a Touch with GPS.

A Touch with GPS doesn't make much sense when you think about it. Having a GPS Touch would actually make me steer away from an expensive iphone with GPS. A GPS Touch would likely be very expensive and hard to adapt to current accessories. A Touch with a camera would be an interesting product...

It would make waves...

I am waiting desperately for the MBP updates...school started yesterday for me and I'm still using this huge piece of trash windows PC...I loaned my MB to my sister to take to school.....I just hope they update the video card...I don't really want to buy a MBP with a graphics card that everyone knows fails at a high rate.....

Such a wide-ranging update of Apple's hardware products would make sense if they are indeed moving to the nVidia mobile CPU chipset. Such a move would mean new iMacs, new Mac Minis, new MacBooks and new MacBook Pros all coming in quick succession.

As to the Cinema Display, even if Apple is not going to commit to Blu-ray, they still need HDCP in the ACD to allow computers to download HD movies from iTunes. Right now, only the :apple:tv can do this because it has HDCP support. And while Apple can add HDCP to the iMac, MacBook and MacBook Pro because they have integrated monitors, if they do that without adding HDCP to the ACD, then it will force folks to buy non-Apple external monitors for the laptops and Apple won't want that.

As to the Mac Pro, it will be a simple thing to add it to the current line-up of cards. And if Apple had any foresight (and they tend to), the existing cards already have HDCP support, it's just not enabled. A quick firmware update could turn it on.

A GPS Touch would likely be very expensive and hard to adapt to current accessories. A Touch with a camera would be an interesting product...

Why does a GPS always = Expensive in peoples minds? My PDA has a 20 channel bluetooth GPS receiver that only cost me 50 bucks 2 years ago which means it probably cost <$10 to produce.

Also, as far as cameras go, I would feel the opposite as you. I would NOT want the touch with a camera since if I want to take pictures I would use my camera. If I wanted crappy low-res shots I would use my phone.

Evertyhing...

Everything on the Apple store site shows 24-hour shipping soooo...

All is up in the air at this point.

Given the state of the economy, I wonder if Apple will have a lot of 'holdbacks' if they do announce new products. There's only so much blood (money) they can squeeze out of the buying public suffering through the much heralded 'Bush Recovery'. Can it get worse? Yes.

It would seem like a poor time to announce major new products on Apple's part. Heck, it would be a hard time for any company to release new products at this point. But that's my POV.

CIP: I went to the local Yamaha dealer and they have a whole bunch of 'holdback' models (even some from 2003!). Some just aren't selling and they got stuck with a bunch of them. They are selling for cost on many models just to get them out of the showroom and only ordering what they can sell rather than stocking them. So much for this rush of people to buy motorcycles to save major gas money. If you don't have the money to buy a Prius, thinking about the money you would save is ridiculous. Only the government could make that type of decision because they are so over spent that it should be a bad joke.

Note that I said a 'usable' camera... I am well aware of the crappy pictures that are possible from a phone. I have a Treo. Yeah, crappy is an understatement...

Finally! the macbook design hasn't changed since I got mine in May 2006.
The plastic gets dirty, and I have had the casing replaced because the wrist rest cracks at the edges. I would like to see aluminum and black keys a la MacBook Air

The wrist rests are cracking on my (January 2007) MacBook. Was the casing replacement covered under AppleCare, if you don't mind me asking?
