Such a wide-ranging update of Apple's hardware products would make sense if they are indeed moving to the nVidia mobile CPU chipset. Such a move would mean new iMacs, new Mac Minis, new MacBooks and new MacBook Pros all coming in quick succession.
Does anyone think this counts as a product transition?

And if Apple had any foresight (and they tend to), the existing cards already have HDCP support, it's just not enabled. A quick firmware update could turn it on.
I'm sure they also have the foresight to charge $1.99 for the HDCP Enabler. :p

what about the MACBOOK PRO metal Casing, I have found a site that talks about how much it warps good grief i don't know what to do now qwhy pay 3k for a notebook that will bend what gives and they ahve stuck with the case for many years now also stupid mac reps lie so fin much they will not admit that clients have experience the same bending of the lid on mbp \

If Apple gives the MBP magnetic latches, then this problem will most like be solved because it would close and be completely shut, not like the current gen MBP's.

An update I would like to see would be something like a smaller form factor in the macbook line-up. Macbook Mini. Sure, Macbook Air is thin, but a netbook size would be fun, and sell like hot-cakes. Apple could sell it at the full Macbook price too.

I just can't wait to see what's happening! This is anticipation! :D

On a side note, I need a new notebook, seeing how the lackluster IT department at my school hasn't enabled *my* access to *my* office computer. Well, I guess it is for the better seeing how it is a Dell and all.. :p

Yeah, I'm sure a sub-12" laptop, with moderately beefy specs, would sell like hot okonomiyaki here in Japan! See tons of people opening up small Panasonics, Sonys, etc. on the train and in coffee shops. Have not yet seen an MBA in such a working-class setting; think rich dudes with Mercedes or Jags buy them as accessories...

as long as something new comes out, it should keep us happy for a little while. I'm still hoping for MacBook Pros!!!

Do you think, they will update the MacBook while the current back to school promotion is running? I doubt it, cause it should be the most popular back to school item, by far.

The other models seem to be poosible candidates for an update, though.

When I bought my just refreshed iMac Intel Core 2 Duo in 2006, it was during the Back to School promotion. I was unable to use the promotion, according to all the Apple reps (at least it seemed like I went through all of them), because it was only good for the old computers, not the newly updated computers. I could see the same happening here... well, I hope to see the same happening here. ;)

add some punctuation.. This isn't myspace

Wow thats a lot of updates. Just imagine steve jobs.

"Weve got some great new products... The mac book pro refresh, macbook refresh and..... new cinema displays.... and new ipods..... and iLife 09.... and new ipod touch... and itunes 8.0... and a new mac mini"

Thats a lot of stuff for one day! Would be very cool I doubt it though, but I really want the new macbook pros and cinema displays to be released soon, Im starting college tomorrow and I really want to get one, and look all smug and happy walking in with my new awesome MBP.

The plan should be: the Mac with the worst GPU has to be upgraded first. :D

(hint: it's the Mac mini, still using the intel GMA950 in the middle of 2008)

With all the focus being iPod and iPhone-related the last couple of years it would be great to see some significant updates to the Mac product line - Mac Pros, MacBooks, MBPs, Mac minis, cinema displays, hell even throw the iMac in there as well! ;)

And the "One More Thing" would be "Nothing!". :p

You'd like to think that, but the MacBook line is certainly Apple's best-selling product so the MacBook and MacBook Pro would be the logical ones to update first (and together), followed a week or two later by the Mini and then (eventually) the iMac.

anyone else get the macbook air email, seems weird they are sending out emails about it. Perhaps trying to get rid of stock?

This update is very important to the "Halo" effect. Many people already have an iPod or iPhone, but are on the fence about a more significant Apple purchase. If these updates pack the WOW factor people are anticipating, it will really catapult Apple into the Holiday season and into 2009.

Personally, I am waiting for a new 23/24" ACD...
