I called my store where I had the reservation and they in fact confirmed that my name is on their list and that there would be a phone there for me until the close of business that day...they DID suggest that I get there early because they are expecting the typical activation congestion that seems to occur every year...the kid said the earlier you try and activate the better chance you have of getting your iPhone working that day...

So did I...needless to say I'll probably be leaving at 4:30am to get one. I have the email printed out but I'll just get in the walk-in line lol.

You can call the store to confirm your reserve was canceled. If it was, they won't have your name in their system. If they don't, don't bother bringing your e-mail.

I also called my apple store that is reserving my phone for me. He said that I was on the list, and that they will hold it. I plan on getting there early though just in case. I'm tired of coming on here every time and seeing a new post about how they are not going to hold reserved phones for you. Why would they even bother with reserving if they had no intentions of honoring it? I would be one pissed off person if I got there and they didn't have any. I don't think I would count of going there after 3pm though to try and pick up your reserve phone. You never know what could happen.

You still have to bring in your SS number. That's what they Apple guy told me. Also I DID NOT give them my SS number on phone or computer, so how would they know it to where I wouldn't have to say it out loud? You just show it to them or write it down.

I'm sure that most people with reservations will be fine, I just think with how crazy it's obviously going to be on the 24th, that we're in uncharted waters here. I've seen a few posts were people said something like: "During the 3GS launch I had a reservation and just went to the store during my lunch break and was in and out with a phone in 10 minutes". I would be nervous about taking that nonchalant of an approach and end up waiting for weeks to get my phone. That's all I'm saying.

I called yesterday & today to make sure and they told me BOTH times that if I have my confirmation e-mail it will be honored regardless of what the apple site says. I still don't know what to do though so I'll just go early and bring the e-mail just in case.

 The Store sale is ridiculous. I tried to call and check if my reservation is there. She told me there is no way she can check. The system didnt let her do that.

Then I said how come tons of people in forum talking about calling the store and the store can verify for them. Then she said so what's your name and go thru my email address.

Then she found it. WTH?

Well after the strong negative reactions on this thread I decided to give my Apple Store a call and see what they said. Here's how it went down:

Me: "Do I have a reservation?"
Them: "Yep, see your name and email right here. You're good."
Me: "So does this mean that you're holding one for me, or do I still have to wait in line?"
Them: "You can wait in line if you want, but we're holding a phone for everyone that reserved."
Me: "OK, will I be able to show up in the afternoon and get it, or do I need to be there by 7 AM to be sure I get one?"
Them: "... what does it say in the email?"
Me: "Um... it'll be held til closing..."
Them: "Well there you go."

Touche, Apple Store man. I guess he's been getting a lot of those calls today.

I also guess the guy at the national call center didn't know what he was talking about.

Great episode, but unless you are homeless and unemployed I dont understand why anyone would opt to pick it up in store rather than have it sent to them? Do people just like the excitement of the store on launch day?

I got it shipped last year, and that's what I wanted this year. However, I literally could not get a pre-order to process. All I was able to get to go through was an in-store reservation through the Apple Store app.

Some people such as myself, prefer to have it earlier. Just personal preference. I also have had more than a couple instances where important packages were delayed for no reason and were not delivered the day they were suppose to. Don't feel like dealing with that.

OR people wanted the phone on pay monthly...

I'd buy you a beer if I could lol.

Just called up my apple store and explained I have the email and i'm not in the system w/e, they came back and told me i'm still good to go.

phew. Now i'm back to bringing food and drink for everyone in line lol. I saved a copy of the email to my iDisk just incase I decide to do anything else stupid like click the freaking "cancel" link.

Hey everyone,

I just got off the phone with iPhone sales at Apple. I was told in no uncertain terms that a reservation just means that they have all your information and know what you want to buy when you show up at the store on launch day. It does NOT mean you're guaranteed a phone or that they're holding one for you. He recommended I get there super early and wait in line like everyone else.

Apparently, the only people that are guaranteed a phone are those that managed to get a full paid pre-order through on the 15th.

Just FYI.

He is not trolling, I got the same answer from apple store The Grove

Even tought the reservation email makes you think they have one waiting on you- this is what it says in the tiny faint print on the bottom of the email...

It's not tiny and it's not faint and it doesn't say they won't hold your phone. It says that the "authorization" is not a guarantee that the phone will be available. The authorization is not the same thing as the reservation. The authorization is the acknowledgement from AT&T that you are eligible to but the phone.

Ironically, I'd say the ones accusing me of trolling are acting the most.. trollish?

I don't want to get caught in a flame war though. Look above on this page, my local Apple Store told me something different than the national guy did.

I'm going to argue with them when I bring my email if they won't let me in because my name is not on the list. Then, they'll just let me in anyway. Happened last year with someone else I saw do that.

How does this work? Is there two lines? I have a reserve for 1 iphone but I need TWO to make my family plan. I assume they'll sell me two still?

I can't be home to wait the Fedex guy all day long because I'm not unemployed. :p

I have no choice but to work all day. I'll get there between 6-6:30 and pick up my iPhone. I reserved and was told I'd have one waiting regardless of when I get there, as long as it's not ridiculously late.
