I wouldn't be able to get there before 5, but if I have to wait, that's fine...unless I can pre-order tonight.

Damnit.....this sucks. I'm going to be waiting in line for an unlocked 6 but I need to get my wife's 6 and my 6+ on AT&T Next....would prefer to just pick them all up at the same time, but it looks like I'll need to pre-order through the carrier and then go by and pick it up after I'm done at the Apple store.
Not too big a deal I guess. I don't want to deal with any shipping to my house....too many things that can go wrong.
Don't know - check the app to see. Go through the process and see if you get that option upgrading on Edge.
How do you go through the process on the app? It just lets me choose size/color/carrier etc then nothing happens, cant add to cart since its not available yet.
OK, just did this and it's telling me it's $599 for a 5s so I guess it's not recognizing the EDGE plan? This is great, now im going to end up spending like $800 on a 6 and then have a cluster**** with the EDGE stuff and my old phone.
Maybe Verizon's site will handle it better.

Yes for all products except iPhone. If you designate someone else to pick up your order, theyll need to bring the web order number and their valid photo ID.
If youve ordered an iPhone with a new wireless account or a new line, it can only be picked up by the account holder the person whose billing information is linked to the wireless account.
If youre upgrading or replacing an iPhone, it can be picked up by the account holder or by a person authorized by the account holder. Contact your wireless carrier to authorize people on the account.
If your iPhone is unlocked, it can be picked up by the person who placed the order or the pickup contact on the order.
I'm glad I found this because I was planning to go by myself and I'm not an authorized user, so I'm making sure they put my name on the account right now.

For me what's missing in Apple's statement...

is they don't say if you pre-order for store pickup you can pick it up on the 19th. I called Apple and they confirmed they cannot guarantee that you will be able to pick up on the 19th.

The person you spoke to is wrong. If you pre-order, you have PAID for the phone. It's yours. If you 'reserve' it without paying, who knows. I don't know why they can't just say it simply. And yes, I have used store pick up and the phone was waiting for me.
AT&T now offers in-store pickup for online orders, will pre-orders work too?
I already know AT&T isn't the most reliable for pre-orders so asking a CSR won't help.

AT&T Says Preorders Can't Be Picked Up in Store
I just asked the identical question and got the opposite response:
Me: Are iPhone 6 preorders only going to be shipped to customers, or will I be able to pick up my preorder at an AT&T Store on the day of release?
Hannah (AT&T): There is not an instore pickup option for the iPhone 6, it will be shipped to you.
