Two phones affected by this annoyance over the weekend. But resetting network settings did the trick for both my wife and I.

Also, did anyone else notice Send as SMS option was disabled during upgrade? This issue wouldn't have been so bad if SMS wasn't disabled after upgrade.

solved in this way.

1. erased my iCloud account.
2. restarted the device.
3. re-registered the iCloud account.
4. solved, OK so far from yesterday.

Resetting Network Settings May Fix iMessages Not Working in iOS 7

Everybody, if you updated/restored to iOS 7, the reason some of your messages are failing to send is because "SEND TO SMS" has been turned OFF in iOS 7 (even if it was previously on in iOS 6 and older). What you need to do is go to Settings > Messages > toggle on "Send to SMS" then, for good measure, turn off iMessages completely, reset network settings, then turn iMessages back on. Your failed messages should then send moving forward. Not sure about new, fresh installations of iOS 7, though - haven't had a chance to test that scenario.

Dumb, dumb, dumb move by Apple, IMHO. A lot of people were blindsided by this.

If you read the thread a lot of us are getting failed iMessages that never get sent as SMS even with SMS turned on.

Happened couple of times on my iPhone and once on my iPad. Turning devices off and on again solved the issue for me.

If you want a glimpse into exactly what's wrong with kids today, do a twitter search for "iMessages" and behold the massive spectacle of the self centered, entitled (and beyond clueless) masses that are today's youth.

One of my employees has not been receiving her iMessages. I did this fix and it works great now. She is a happy camper!

I've not had problems with iMessage on my iOS devices but I have had problems sending messages from my Mac to other people on their iOS devices. Wonder if this is related? I can send messages to myself and it works (appears on both Mac and iPhone) and I can send messages to some of my contacts but not all. Weirdly, I receive all messages on my Mac fine.

Resetting Network Settings worked.

But just for a couple of days, today i had to reset again so the iMessage will work.

Apple, get on it.

my solution ... turn off iMessage altogether, as no amount of resetting etc... worked for more than an hr or so, I get truly unlimited sms so no biggie really, but I do prefer the blue to the green

If you tap and hold on the message bubble, you get an option to send the message as an SMS. I do this when my iMessages freeze on about 90% progress. Not a fix, but it gets your message out the door!

It doesn't give that option if you are sending a phone number which I found out yesterday to my annoyance, just options to call number etc.

Put me in this boat. Messages weren't being sent for hours yesterday. How long was this OS beta tested???

Power off/on is short term fix only

For all the people posting that turning their device off/on fixed their issues.....it is short term. I know multiple people including myself that have tried this only to have the same problem pop back up again. I am trying to network reset, hopefully this works, very annoying.

REGARDING IMessage

Thanks you for the help in correcting the imessage failures... I was also having issues with not being able to send messages a few times. YOU GUYS AND GALS ARE AWESOME @ MAC RUMORS!

In my case, after trying everything, they are going to replace my iPad. iPhone 5 working fine.

I have to say the same too, since iOS7, I am finding sending iMessages to iOS devices (iOS6 or 7) from OSX Messages, I am getting message failure and having to resend again and sometimes more then once. I don't think the issue is only client side, but server side and Apple are having issues with their servers. I would not be surprised if it's a user limit and turning your iOS device off and on, re-registers you and kicks someone else off.

For awhile I was getting repeats from yesterday spliced in with new messages from today.

Couldn't send any out.

Now all iMessages have vanished leaving only text messagse behind.

This sucks. I've redirected normal contacts to Google Hangouts for the day, maybe permanently. Stable.

My friend and I got ours on release day.

The next day we texted a friend of ours outside of at&t, and who does not have an iPhone.

Even though we both had him as our contact in our address book, if I created a group chat, my friend would reply, it would create a new group chat window.
If I clicked on the number in that group chat it would come up with a 612 area code, and point to my contact in my address book correctly, but as soon as I replied inside that new chat window, it would push it to 651 area code.

Was really strange.

But yes, had to shut off iMessage recycle the power, and turn iMessage off.
