I tried tonight RE8 on my iPhone 15 pro connected via docking station to my 27" monitor. The graphics ran well at high settings, unfortunately the game crashed 3 times on me during 1h gameplay and phone got quite hot. The phone display ran at the mirrored mode.

I ended up getting demo also on my fast PC which has different demo than one for iPhone. The one for PC starts in Castle and you get 1 h timer. The game came across to me more as horror puzzle game than adventure like tomb raider so I won't buy this game.

Nintendo switch hardware is so weak, it severely limits what switch game can deliver in terms of quality. Even iPhone 11 can run around in terms of hardware power. On top of that, I doubt devs themselves do tons of optimization. Nintendo probably do it.

It is extremely time-consuming and cost ineffective to optimise an existing game to run smoothly when the same time and money couldve been used to develop a new game. Those devs would have to dig deep into Apple silicon architecture and rewrite their game code to best suite Apple hardware If they want to deliver the “optimization” you are talking about. What they do, which basically just a direct port with basic optimization, serves the purpose to show Apple community “hey this is a good game and AAA too”. More of a proof of concept than serious commitment.

Then don’t allow your phone to go to sleep. Simple. Worry about battery life? Plug it in.
Normally apps that require downloads disable sleep mode. I guess this will come

MS, Nintendo, and Sony have nothing to worry about. Hardware specs mean nothing without games. If Apple is serious about gaming, what Apple needs are exclusive first party AAA games. Otherwise at this point, what you're getting on Apple is just another port of a multi-platform game that was probably released a few years ago.
That's my point. The big three guard their publishers, so the lure here will be $$$ from Apple and distribution. The money isn't in the hardware. It's in the publishers.

This is precisely why Apple won't allow streaming. They want their cut from the publishers too.

Then suffer the consequences of Mac never popular in gaming industry. Or better yet, pull out gaming market on Mac altogether and leave the community to figure out stuff on their own.
Apple holding $4T without using it is just $4T that doesn’t generate value Anyway.

I don't know. Honestly, the idea that mac execs give me is that at any time, people will realize on their own that the Mac is so great that everyone will drop their PCs and gaming consoles and surrender themselves to the joys of Apple Silicon. That was really evident when the Mx line was released.

This only had any remote chance to be true if Intel and AMD decided to passively wait and Apple's benefits were so much more revolutionary than they really are (which, as I said back then, is playing a dangerous game – what if your product stops being 100% revolutionary)?

But, as you can see, Apple is having issues scaling their solutions to be REVOLUTIONARY and AMD and Intel are not passively waiting (especially AMD!).

And yet, there are more games for the Switch than Apple Silicon. This also implies developers would rather optimize their games to Switch hardware rather than the latest and greatest Apple Silicon.

Why is that?

Food for thought...

Been testing it on both iPhone and M1 iPad, it runs better than I was expecting (default recommended graphics setting). 30 minutes of gameplay made my iPad warm but not dangerously hot, and consumed 18% battery. Playing with a wireless controller because the touch controls are not practical.

Funnily enough the iPhone version of the game occasionally displays a macOS-like mouse cursor in the top-left corner, probably as a developer oversight. Normally it's hidden by the curved corners of the iPhone display but it shows up in screen captures (see attached image).

Can't wait for Resident Evil 4 (2023 remake) to follow suit!
Hey how do you download it. I’m stuck on the intro download page that seems to freeze after I press A

The amount of settings you can play around is impressive! Playing on an M1 iPad with 16GB of Ram, and you can crank the FPS up to 120 and some other **** as well! It is also great that it tells you how much ram is going to grab with each setting tweak. It runs super well! But the downside is the battery melts immediatel.

It occurs to me that I don't have a mobile device that can run this. Still rocking my 11 Pro Max, an Air 4, and recently a Mini 5

I'm not quite ready to upgrade on mobile though. Now that M3 is on us, I think my 2012 mini is finally due for an upgrade. Might as well set cash aside until M3 mini is announced

They managed to get this running on the switch through the cloud, so if they really wanted, this COULD run on your iPad one way or the other. BUT if they did that, they wouldn't be able to promote the iPhone 15, would they?

Is anyone having trouble with the “cross progression”? I’ve started playing on iPad but it doesn’t sync my achievements to my iPhone. Both have Game Center logged in on iCloud.

You need to manually upload and download saves, this can be done in the Options > iCloud menu in-game.

Dont forget Steam Deck, ROG Ally. On Linux you have Proton. On Mac games don't run as well on Rosetta or Crossover so you really need to convert to native in Metal. It will eventually catch up but don't expect quick revolution, most studios especially Indies will write for just one platform to save on time and cost and call it a day!

Right. Computers themselves are "niche products". However, when I say that, I'm referring to how Vision Pro will be restricted to a few wealthy users at best. Given all the factors at play, it can't become as popular as a smartphone is.
No, Computers are not niche at 286 million sold in 2022. The Mac is a niche product of computers, restricted to around 20+ million wealthy users a year in an average year. The Mac isn’t as popular as the smartphone is, will NEVER be as popular as the smartphone is, but still makes enough profit for Apple to keep producing it.

There’s a lot of similarities between the upcoming niche Vision Pro and the currently niche Mac.

The world has 8 billion people, so if you think in proportion to the number of people on Earth, it's a rather small number. There are many poor people who won't ever have the privilege of having an electronic device.

At the end of the day, people primarily focused on gaming tend to have limited budgets. (Think pretty much ALL teenagers out there who only work a relatively low-wage job or don't have one at all because they're in school full-time.) They're not gaming on a Mac because they can't afford one. They just barely convinced family to buy them a game console as a holiday gift, in most cases.

If they happen to be real tech-focused (like I was growing up)? Then they might have built their own PC clone gaming rig that's pretty decent. But that was probably made possible because they could pay for it piece by piece and maybe get some used parts from friends, as well.

You also have the people able to save up enough to buy a Windows gaming laptop like a Lenovo Legion or what-not. But even then, you're talking maybe a $1500-ish total expense, vs Mac where that money doesn't really get you into a "well spec'd" Mac that's comparable for gaming. (32GB is standard on gaming laptops today, or else really cheap to get to from maybe 24GB they come with.)

That's not necessarily true at all. Many high-end PC gaming PCs would be completely out of the scope of a "normal person", if you want to fork the money on it. What happens is, the bottom of the line consoles are somewhat affordable. But you definitely won't be playing AAA games on a cheap PC (e.g, Core i3 with integrated video chip).

THIS.

There are a lot of reasons that gaming on a Mac has struggled. But cost isn’t really the big one. Cheap PC’s can’t run AAA titles. The people who buy or build gaming PC’s are spending just as much as a low end Mac. 5 years ago, that low end Mac couldn’t play games either. But in the Mx era, even an Air can run AAA titles. The M1 has nearly the same GPU performance as last-gen consoles. There really isn’t a pre-built PC that can out-game a MacBook Air for the same price. But of course; a PC for the same price, though it’ll be low-mid end for gaming, will have a MUCH larger library.

True enough. Even if you buy a 15+ year old, low end PC, in theory it has access to many light games. We're talking in the thousands here. We're not even counting the emulators. While many are available for Macs, PCs have a much wider range of them available.

Wow, finally got to play this today, running in my M1 11” iPad Pro, connected by PS4 controller as the on screen controls are a joke and it’s running fine, looks very good and I can tell it’s pushing my lil M1 chip, but the iPad is only warm. Fantastic effort by the team, just left it running at default graphics settings.
