OP. You need to let the screen be completely COOL before you use anything or it will smear like crazy. DO NOT use a paper towel. Use a microfiber cloth. I recommend you buy iKlear on amazon. It's the best cleaner available.
Hmmm... I have used OmniCleanz on LCDs that are on and warm and I haven't experienced any streaking issues.
One apparent important difference between iKlear and OmniCleanz is that OmniCleanz is non-conductible, which means it won't cause moisture damage to electronic components.
iKlear is meant to be used on displays while OmniCleanz can be used to clean keyboards, cases, etc. I use it to clean the exterior of digital cameras and other electronic devices. I have used OmniCleanz for years on a variety of Macs; it keeps them looking like new which helps when it is time to sell them on the used market.
Radtech states that the first time that OmniCleanz is used on a device that hasn't been previously cleaned that it may take more than one application to remove all the built-up grime.
Paper towels should not be used because they are mildly abrasive. Microfiber cloths are the only thing I use on my computers, cameras, etc. OmniCleanz is available in bundles that include a microfiber cloth.
After reading the post on the Apple forum and seeing the images of the streaking the stains that look identical to the OP's rMBP, I am beginning to wonder if there isn't something radically different about the exterior surface of the Retina display.
I have cleaned a variety of CRT and LCD displays over the years and I have never seen the kind of streaking showing up on the Retina displays. I've been looking forward to the possibility of a 13" rMBP but now I am not so sure that I would want a Retina display. I'm going to let the early adopters work through these problems before I spend my money on a Retina Mac.
