So that means that for scandinavians, we will not be able to buy an ipad, or a iphone or a mac pro for months before xmas (so most of what apple makes money on is unavailable in their stores)....that´s serious delivery problems....most companies got this in order before they release anything, or at least they have a release date we can rely on. It´s sad really.

That's business.

Apple has decided that it will make more profit with that strategy. I'm not sure where the sense of entitlement comes from. Apple distributes product in a manner calculated to maximize total profits.

If Scandinavians contributed more profits, then the rollout dates would be different. As of now, Apple is doing what is best for the bottom line, and they always will do exactly that.

I just couldn't bare the weight of the Nexus 7 despite the higher resolution. No doubt, the screen is nice and I don't mind android too much either, but due to the added heft of the Nexus 7 I'd rather be using my iPad mini.

The iPad Mini is heavier than the Nexus 7.

The Nexus 7 is lighter than the iPad Mini.

18 Grams.

2013 Nexus 7 vs. iPad mini

Disappointing to say the least. I wonder if the update to the mini was going to be minor, and given how the competition has leaped frogged them they needed to redesign it.

I think they (apple) has been introducing small updates, while the competition has been shooting for the moon. Apple needs to up its game.

That's exactly how I read the situation as well. Apple was ready to roll out another standard def mini with minor updates(A6) around this time, but the competition, which was already ahead display wise, REALLY up'd the game with latest nexus 7.

That caused Apple to have to regroup and has caused this apparently delay/lack of raw materials to meet demand. If you read the stories about the updated Nexus 7, and it's design/production, it sounds a lot more Apple like than our guessed at original meager update for the mini

This is what Steve was good for. He would of told his team to buckle down and make it happen. Next year would not have been good enough.

Then again Steve wouldn't have released a non-retina iPad mini in the first place.

Edit: yes I'm aware that the iPad 1-2 didn't have a retina display, I meant releasing a non-retina iPad in 2012 after the iPad 3 was already introduced.

And yes I knew I would get flamed for the "Steve would have" comment. I was half joking but you have to admit that Tim likes to take the easy way out more often than not.

Remember MobilMe? Maybe there was even too much pressure to hit the deadline?

. Apple = Baby Steps towards latest technology, they do not care to impress or to catch up with Samsung etc. because they have the brand and they know whatever they make is going to be a success.

This. They would rather use 'old' but basically stable tech that will sell to the masses and make them a ton of money than spec wank for the geeks on sites like this and have something go wrong.

I am sure you have noticed how many times has Apple make you say "This feature/hardware upgrade is going to be definitely on the next release" and in the end it s not.

Rarely to never. Apple doesn't preannounce things. And when they do it's a finished product like the Mac Pro that will be releasing later not random specs

----------

Don't understand why Apple is having all these issues and their competition isn't, I'm sure the nexus 7 and the soon to be released Kindle will be in large supply this holiday season

Rumors of problems are not proof of them. It could be that this is nothing more than an attempt to short the stock value a little before the anticipated jump when the iPad releases. Plus Apple gets page hits so the blogs love to report anything they can tie to Apple in the thinnest, most sketch way. Nexus etc don't get those kinds of page hits so they don't get talked about every five seconds.

Um did you forget your sarcasm tag. Or the fact that the first two generations of the iPad did not have a retina display?

And let's not forget that Steve was against smaller iPads and the reason the Mini came out last year, after he died, might be because while Eddy didn't convince Steve, Tim felt differently. So when he got the reins he made it happen

Ol' Steve liked design and experience, not specs. Specs cost money and he did not think people needed more than what he offered. My early Apple TV and Time Capsule both died of heat exhaustion, clearly way too hot, but I knew that this was a Steve thing. He wanted it quiet, small and with no visible cooling slots or ducts that would detract from the looks.

256MB of RAM isn't just a specs thing, it directly affected the experience. The "experience" of having Safari not even handle more than two tabs at once was garbage. The "experience" of the iPad stuttering all the time was garbage. I still have a first gen iPad. It's pretty painful to use. I'm waiting for a retina iPad Mini, assuming they've put enough RAM in it where it won't also get bogged down within a year.

Historically yes. But it seems with the flagship iPhone(64 bit, speed/speed/speed) and the soon to be released updated iPad(presumably same CPU), they are highlighting the specs a bit more. For the 5c and the mini, the specs are more in line with traditional Apple - good enough.

By offering a better product at a lower price.

I wouldn't consider a high res display "leap frogging". The competition isn't revolutionizing the tablet space. They're making iterative improvements just like Apple.

If Apple is unable to produce a retina mini for the holiday quarter then I think they should wait to update until they can and just do a price cut on the current mini.

I currently own an iPhone 5. I don't consider my phone just "good enough". Please don't compare the 5 with the iPad mini.

But it's not a computer processor and it doesn't have 8gb of RAM. No Wacom digitizer.mAnd where's the 100MP pixel. the Nokia has 41 so Apple has to do better. Especially if these are the specs that will go into future iPads.

I was trying to compare the flagship iPhone(the 5 was the flagship at one point in the past), but your zeal to rebuff anyone with an opposing point of view is apparently clouding your mind.

you will be REALLY surprised when your iPhone 5 and the mini2 have an awful lot in common. You know the mini2, the whole point of this thread.

Apples problem is a gift to Google. As more people become aware that for a full $100 less they get a far better tablet. They're going to think twice about Apples premium pricing strategy. The displays during a side by side comparison of my Nexus 7.2 and iPad mini are so different the mini looks five years old. Apple has made a mockery of themselves after all the bragging about retina. It doesn't take a genius to determine Apple got cheap to drive up its profits.

Bogus!
Apple has no problem making a 4" retina display for iphone.. No proble making a 9.7 inch retina display for ipads...but they hav a problem with making a 7.9 diplay.
Yup 7.9 is a very challanging size to make ... Lol ...

What, that the mini 2 will have 4th gen iPad specs?

Enough with the Steve would have / wouldn't have done XYZ. You have no idea what Steve would have done and it's irrelevant.

It's a little more complex than that..

8GB is a total JOKE. Hell, even 16GB as the lowest end memory capacity is becoming a joke these days. Memory is so cheap... but I can't blame Apple for gouging customers like that as long as they keep paying... What would they save dropping from 16-->8? maybe $2 in parts costs?

Apple don't make screens.

If the people who have developed and make them can't produce them perfect in high enough quantities yet due to manufacturing issues, then Apple has to wait like anyone else.

and Google, Amazon ... all offer 7" tablets with FullHD resolution :D

Speaking of Amazon, the U.S. press has given its verdict on the Kindle Fire HDX 7: thanks to the ecosystem developed by Amazon, the Kindle tablet can rival with the Nexus7 and surpass it in terms of power ( Snapdragon800 at 2.2Ghz, 2Gb RAM, Adreno 330, FullHD screen insensitive to reflections ...):
