Are people really using their tablets or is it just for show in starbucks.
Is this rhetorical? Why buy a tablet if people think you might be using the one with POOR COLOR GAMUT???
Are people really using their tablets or is it just for show in starbucks.
I'm returning my Retina iPad Mini too. Not only are the colors washed out and the gamma too low,
The price did go up from last year, all things are not equal.
the color gamut is the same as last year's mini.
last year: "Whaaaa, we need ipad's Retina! No Retina, no buy!"
this year: "Whaaaa, we need ipad's gamut! No gamut, no buy!"
...nobody complained about last year's gamut at all. half of you probably didnt even know what the word meant.
so much entitled nonsense.
I took my iPad Mini with Retina Display back yesterday in favor of an iPad Air.
I took mine back yesterday too and exchanged for an Air.
The value, I guess.who said anything about being equal? what i said was, in what way is the product capability *worse* than last year's mini?
Well if they both said "yesterday," then they both returned them before the article was written. So, you know, maybe they actually have decent eyesight...I presume you bought them and were perfectly happy with them before you read this article. Other than your perception due to peer pressure, what changed?
I'm glad to see Apple getting called out on this. They have big boy pants and in the long run will only make for a better product in the future.
exactly. a good 90% of consumers have no idea what color gamuts are and more than likely couldn't distinguish between variances unless they were pointed out to them. Color accuracy is important for photo and video work, neither of which is done on an iPad in any meaningful capacity. If anything, having a less saturated display will help to cut down on all the artificial color enhancements the world of marketing has given us. As long as i don't see banding or harsh gradients, i'm pretty sure the colors on my iPad mini display are just fine, for me, and for 99% of consumers.
I would have preferred non-retina with A7 and dedicated the additional battery to run-time. I'm still getting the retina mini due to the amazing size and power. I doubt seriously that I will see any screen issues to my eye. They look great in the apple store.
even Anand put it this way:
"The biggest [difference between mini and Air] in my eyes is the iPad Airs wider gamut display with full sRGB coverage. The minis Retina Display is good, the Airs is just better."
...how that can be perverted into the sort of entitlement whining that only users of MacRumors can generate, is mind-blowing.
Yeah, they hate me. I think you are the only one who thinks I'm whining... And yeah, I'll be sure to check the computer before it leaves the warehouse and is shipped to me via FedEx. Maybe Apple can include airfare for me with my next order.
I mean, if you don't have anything to contribute to the conversation, you can always post in the MR security leak thread. Need the URL?
The value, I guess.

Well if ANAND said it, then it must be the gospel truth...
Mildly funny a couple years ago, now the sarcasm is just annoying.Welcome to gamutgate. Obligatory remark: Apple is doomed! /s
I complained about it the minute i compared the mini and the Air. This article didnt exist yet. People were shouting us down saying we were crazy for noticing. Then it turns out to be we were right.
There are plenty of pro photograhers that edit on an iPad . In some ways its actually more efficient.
If you're expecting next year's mini to have a Retina Display, I wouldn't hold your breath.
Look at the picture in this post: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/18383959/
And tell me that any normal consumer wouldn't notice the difference between the purple spherical containers in Clash of Clans? I think I'd notice if the obviously purple container somehow ended up looking like pepto bismol that sat out in the sun for a year. There is no color to it. Period. 99% of people would notice this. And 99.5% would notice it if they also have an iPhone 5, or really any other phone from 2011 onward, which probably has a more accurate screen than the rMini...
I took my iPad Mini with Retina Display back yesterday in favor of an iPad Air.
bc people trashed the display bc it didn't have retina. they didn't care about the gamut bc retina wasn't in it. they always want something to complain about.why was this not an issue last year, when the mini had the exact same gamut as this year? why is it only now that this is a calamity? last year everybody said they needed retina resolution. guess what, you got it.
