If this new MacBook Pro has the RAM soldered on the motherboard, forget that. I will NOT pay outragious prices on RAM from Apple. Old MBP, here I come!

And it's offical, 17" MBP is retired. I'm debating about a new 15 (thicker, normal) or a 17" MD311LL/A...

Holy Crap Sticks Apple!!! But I think they could have given the current gen MB Pro better graphics if they've managed to squeeze the 650m into the new thin model!
Still... oh and they should have also included 802.11 AC wireless... but man that's a nice looking machine.

Please for the love of all things holy, 802.11ac isn't a ratified final standard and its uses are so niche and obscure that right now it is techno marketing buzz rather than a real world useful technology.

802.1N wasn't finalised either for OVER a year when Apple started using it! So your argument is bogus on that one plus Netgear and others have started using it in CONSUMER devices!

If your going to drop ethernet on a machine starting from $2200 then you should include the latest wireless.

I'm guessing RAM will be nonexpandable- now just to decide whether to stick with the base 8GB or go with 16...

I'll just have to see if the RAM upgrade is still overpriced. Will be going with the 512 SSD.

How about rubbing two brain cells together and reading up on 802.11ac given that it is using the 5Ghz frequency - and we all know how 'wonderful' the coverage is with that. Btw, I'm connected to my router right now at 450Mbps, why the hell do I need anything faster at the moment? you seem to be hyped on believing you *MUST* have the bleeding edge technology or your life won't be complete!

Exactly my thoughts. Unless the 768 GB option is priced considerably lower than I expect it to be (unlikely) this is going to be the KO criterion on what otherwise looks like an intriguing product.

Also, high-resolution graphics as one of the main selling points, but still no Blu-ray support?

How about you step off!! Bring your head out of the clouds...... facts are facts, 802.11n was NOT finalised for ages and ALL the manufacturers were using it. And in my book, if your going to drop GIGABIT ethernet from a machine, charge a lot for it, but NOT implement the replacement wireless technology which other manufactures ARE using and that includes laptops, then it's not good enough.

List me 6 laptops from big name mainstream vendors that are using 802.11ac already.

Regarding 802.11ac, it is sitting at Technical Specification Draft 0.1, where as in the case of 802.11n, it was in draft but well and truly along the way to becoming finalised. You're comparing an immature technology to something, but the time it appeared in products, to be more or less finalised be it with requiring some minor tweaks.

You've also failed to address the coverage issue and how that relates to your demand for comparable speeds of a gigabit ethernet - fat load of use demanding 802.11ac when in a real life situation you'll NEVER EVER get even close to the peak theoretical specs which 802.11ac proponents promise.

can anyone confirm is the RAM also soldered too?

From the pictures of the Logic Board everything looks soldered in...including the SSD chips.

There's absolutely no reason why these pro machines shouldn't carry a hard disk as well for the bulk of the file storage. All the more so when the optical is gone

If apple only have ssds in there they are going to be SHAMELESS once AGAIN, and they are going to be doing it for just one REASON that is to PROFIT OBSCENELY from the buyers because the bulk of their HIGH MARGINS is made from their deals in flash storage.

I guess the five people who downvoted it have no balls to actually reply to what I said with arguments...

consumers will buy the new retina macbook marketing triumph and buy the laptop whatsoever.

i think as far as professionals go a lot will depend on whether the ram or/and ssd are user replaceable (from the looks of it they are not but still we should wait and see)

8GB are ok for now but in 2-3 years time they won't be.

personally i've had 8GB for the past 3 years so I kinda don't want to be stuck with 8GB for another 3

Priced for idiots. Nobody will pay that price JUST for a retina screen that has ZERO impact on your usage or productivity.

Zero impact? You've got the screen real estate of a 30" display. It's like the ultimate Final Cut machine. You can edit 1080p video with room to spare. You can view 2.5k video NATIVELY on a mobile device.
