They are not even ok now, os x is a an immense memory hog. Your first sentence doesn't make much sense btw

i meant that individuals who are simply consumers not professionals will buy the laptop regardless of the lack or upgradeability simply because apple is a very good marketing strategist

No 17", soldered ram, no upgradable hard drive, no more apple laptops for me.
It was a good ride while it lasted.

:(

I won't be getting one. Love the machine, but the fact that I can't get a 1TB drive, the what I am sure will be outrageous BTO prices, and the lack of upgradablity will have me looking elsewhere. This Macbook I use now has had its useful life extended quite a bit because I could upgrade it. Now that it is not able to run ML, I was in the market for a new computer. I don't know what I will get, but I know it won't be retina Macbook.

i dont deserve this laptop, im just a college student... not yet a CEO of some large multi-national corps

I didn't see any kensington lock, is that true?
Was thinking about one for work but it would disappear instantly without lock :(

Oh, great. $2k+ price & no way to secure the thing against walking away. Stupid monovision designers; it would have been so easy to put a little lock-slot somewhere, anywhere. Oh, now I get it -- they *want* it to wander off so you'll need to buy a couple of these every year!

The main alternative I've seen before is to put a case around it, but that would probably mess with the cooling design very badly, so that's not really an option.

Geez. It looks so great in every other way but theft risk and price.

Definitely if I had to replace my 15in MBP it would be with the current upgraded model. The new MBP with its lack of OOD, non-replaceable RAM, non-replaceable storage and excess pixels is not for me. Its more along the lines of iPads and MBAs, meant for people who just use a computer as is without ever trying to make improvements as technology changes.

My MBP has had two RAM changes and two HDD changes. If WD ships a 1TB 7200 RPM Scorpio Black it will get yet another HDD.

Did I miss something or is there really
NO Kensington Lock port?

I mean Kensington's service sucks, but the feature isn't bad.

Is there confirmation

So has there been any confirmation as to whether or not the SSD and RAM are not user replaceable? I spoke with Apple about an hour ago and they said it SEEMED as though it was the same as the MacBook Air meaning the SSD is user replaceable, RAM soldered onto the logic board.

Maybe it could be, but it's expensive stuff, so I'd say just accept what they offer.

I just ordered mine with 768GB or whatever, and it was $500 extra for the 250 GB additional flash drive option.

768 GB SSD is the Max?

So 768 GB SSD is the max on the new Retina Display MBP? There is no way to add an extra SSD drive in Raid 0? If this is the case, I would rather stick with the old MBP and put an extra SSD drive in the optical drive. I have 850 GB of music alone that I like to keep on my hard drive on my computer. Yeah yeah I know I could keep it on an external HD, but I don't want to.

Yep, I know - I wanted more too, and there is no further SSD upgrade ability.

I got a Thunderbolt drive that I keep by the lazy boy, and just plug it in when I'm working on Final Cut or whatever. Storage is always filled no matter how large.

I think a lot of folks are failing to account for the Hi-res 15" option. I really, really don't think Retina is coming this round.

Well, color me surprised, they did release it. See, setting low expectations is great, now I'm pleasantly surprised instead of grossly disappointed that it's only a 1440x900 display that's "sharper". :D

What I'd like to know is it one 768GB SSD or a 256GB + 512GB SSDs? In the motherboard picture it looks like there are two SATA ports like the Macbook Air, but one looks to have a smaller SSD than the other.

Nope just one SSD Blade ... its end-user removable yet not officially.
Look CAREFULLY on the cutaway on the left hand side; think 2011 MBA but in a slightly wider BladeSSD all in black ... you'll see the place where the LOCK screw goes ... and on the other end you'll see the metal connector, just like the MBA.

Since when was 8 gb not enough? Your post makes no sense

640kb of ram is more than enough for everybody.

Also, I foresee a future where the world may need more than *3* mainframes.

Relax, on the bright side you can probably gank it from an Apple store easier...

Zero impact? You've got the screen real estate of a 30" display. It's like the ultimate Final Cut machine. You can edit 1080p video with room to spare. You can view 2.5k video NATIVELY on a mobile device.

And you are going to wear out your SSD drives editing videos on your internal drives in 5 minutes.
