Thats ********. I had the 2008 (first gen) unibody and the 2012/2013 cMBP has a better screen. Better colors, better backlight, better contrast. Its a no****ingbrainer. They didn't dumb it down at all.

USB3.0 works fine here...

Posts like this make me think people here are defective, not units...

Also Ploki-You mentioned that the USB 3.0 is working fine here...So you are telling me that you already have a rMBP with Haswell??? Because that's what I'm talking about. Do some research before hammering me. Go to google and type in HASWELL USB 3.0

I think you are reading me in reverse here. Fact...I'm talking about my 2009 MBP that has a far supperior screen than the 3 2012 model screens that I went thru, one of them from a different store. Add that to the gentleman on this forum that went thru the same thing with his 2008 machine having a better display than his 2012 MBP, which he then also returned, tells me that the quality of the cMBP has gone down a bit. In addition, the last time I went down, when I got the store credit, I brought my 2009 machine with me and compared it to ALL the floor models. Same thing. I set them all to the desktop with the galaxy on it. The new ones were less defined, kind of blown out. The guy fiddled with the settings, but no doubt, my 2009 had a sharper display. It's a trend supported by several 2012 screens. IDK, maybe it was just a coincidence that 3 new computers plus the floor models PALED in comparison to my 2009 MBP, but it was enough to make me wait for th next retina.
Then perhaps my 2008 just had a crappy screen. Because most of 2012s I saw had good screen. That said, I didn't seen any ghosting in any retina display models either. And luckily enough, mine doesn't have any.

What you are claiming is bordering on conspiracy theory; that apple is deliberately putting in inferior displays (coupled with not updating cMBP to latest chips) to sell more retina displays? Why would they trick themselves out of sale?

Why wait for the next retina anyway?

I withdraw my statement and apologise for sloppy reading.

Also for my attitude towards you in general. The negative attitude on these forums sometimes pisses me off, because most of it is unfounded blabber. (The whole GUI lag and 15" being underpowered for retina bullcrap. Btw 10.8.3 fixed most of my display issues (Which were some artefacts now and then, mostly on specific pages). I'm just so sick of reading people bitching about problems on imaginary grounds

If price is no issue, TAKE IT BACK. Get a fully loaded 15" retina. That's what I did. Thinner and performs better than the classic with same spec because of thermal design and takes ques from MacBook Air. Can't go wrong. Also consider a Pegasus J4 or Lacie thunderbolt drives to host or render footage to. I use mine for music, video, and 3d animation.

Yeah. Check it out and come back. Do you have a older MBP to compare it to? If so what year and model? If you don't then I'm sure it'll look fine to you. Otherwise it has the same guts as the retina, except no SSD. So I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I just had a four year old computer with a much nicer, more defined display next to it, and for $2000 I felt that was not acceptable

I sold my 2010 to get this new one but I know what that screen looked like and it was gorgeous. I'm fairly confident that I'll be able to tell. I also have a friend who has a 2010 so if I have any doubt I'll take it to his place to compare.

To be honest, I thought you meant the current models by the way you phrased your comment about it.

I am waiting for the next retina because I told myself last June that I wouldn't buy the first one. Since then I've read many people complain about this and that, I've also read many very happy people. And it's also true that most satisfied customers don't bother to write in, but I've waited this long, so... I'm of course hoping there will be a few general improvements that come with a next gen, hoping for a bigger SSD on the base model, I know Haswell will be relatively minor, but there will be improvements to speak of-GPU, battery, cooling and maybe the new Wifi (Probably wont speed things up as you only get what your Internet provider gives but I understand it will improve range), in a perfect world they will pick a display provider and end this redicules game of returning machines in hope of getting a Samsung, wich I hear from some posters that if you have a LG that doesn't have IR it actually has better, richer color-I don't know that to be true. As far as my 2009 display being better-My brother tells me that that model, 2009 15" MBP with 2.53 ghz was actually a special release that has some sort of different graphic card in it, so perhaps that's why the display is so brilliant. But there's still that 2008 guy who agreed with me to consider. All I know is that the several 2012 models I looked at were somewhat washed out compared to my 2009. But as far as the guts of the machine goes-It was a monster

As far as previous posts claiming GUI lag and the 15" being underpowered for retina...Hey, that's why I come here. I read...I post...I read replies and I learn. That's why this forum is fantastic. I've always enjoyed your postings, Ploki, and I've taken valuable things from your statements. I hope to continue to so.

No, what's been reported on many feeds is there's some sort of glitch on the Haswell chip that when you put your computer to sleep, when you wake it up the devices connected to the USB 3.0 don't wake up, and you need to restart those devices. It's minor and doesn't harm anything, but still, it's a glitch. Not a big deal as Haswell hasn't even been released yet, but what got me a little fired up was that the report says Apple plans on releasing a 'Trickle' amount of these chips, then when the next batch of chips are delivered they will then release the machines en mass. This makes the desired next gen rMBP without the glitches chip around Christmas or so. Can you imagine the heat Apple will take if they knowingly release a machine with a glitch, even if its just a few?

LG (or alternatively Apple's decision to allow LG to make panels for them) really screwed up the 1st gen rMBP release for a lot of people.

Otherwise there are 2 issues out there that seem to bear some weight. The first is UI lag, which I consider minor. There is lag, but it's entirely subjective as to whether or not it makes a difference in your productivity or your enjoyment of the machine. To me it doesn't. Further it's being mitigated by software improvements. The other "issue" is the lack of optimized software for retina, more specifically menu items, icons and visual elements not being optimized for retina. Again, a minor issue that doesn't affect my overall satisfaction.

Other than those 2 issues I can't think of anything "beta" about my rMBP. I'm enjoying ownership immensely. But YMMV.

(Personally I think the people who run benchmarks all day on the FPS you get flipping between months in the Calendar app are being a bit obsessive, but that's just me)

Yeah, the screen deal is really bad. The first thing I checked on mine when I got it. LGs are generally all warmer... Which is odd, i find this one warm as well. I'm not a fan of warm screens though.

Thanks for the post! I feel even more bad for acting like a jerk. Oh well, live and learn.

The 10.8.3 really deals with all the quirks that retina had - i personally only got occasional artefacts when scrolling, but to be honest I got that on the 2008 in early stages of 10.7 as well. Else it works perfect.

I was an early unibody adopter and early retina... Funny, I usually when buying wait for the next gen to come out instead and jump on the first iteration

Guys with retina, you seriously dont see lags while scrolling web sites? Yesterday I tried 13 and 15 incher retina... that was unusable, I would smash that thing after one hour usage... disappointed

Using WebKit seems to make that lag go away completely. The MacRumors site is completely smooth in my experience, and even The Verge's main page scrolls at a healthy framerate. The 10.8.3 update has reportedly made Safari a lot snappier, but I still found it to be jerky compared to WebKit which is buttery smooth.

I've had no problems whatsoever. No mods or special programs needed. I tried to produce what others experienced, no luck...a I'm a power users in terms of heavy 3d work and resource hungry music production. Perhaps there was just a bad batch and they make sure the New York deliveries are pristine machines. :)

On any site that my Retina lags on, my iMac lags almost as bad.

Example:

http://bookofhook.blogspot.com/2013/03/smart-guy-productivity-pitfalls.html

Scrolls fine, right?

Pinch to zoom in a little bit, then scroll. Clunky no matter what in Safari. Chrome zooms differently and works okay, but so does Safari if you zoom by hitting Command+'+' instead of pinching.

Stop blaming the Retina when it's the site/browser itself.

Hope you are joking... I have tested rMBP 13, rMBP 15, cMBP15 on sites that works completele smooth on my imac 21incher - on retinas, it was laggy as hell, on cMBP it was smooth, all I was doing was just scrolling pages.. nothing else...

why the heck should I pinch to zoom? I am comparing user experience surfing the web, and that was horrible with retinas... and smooth witn non retina mb pro and imac...

As others have said you don't need the retina display. The question is do you want it and by how much? If it's something you really want and your willing to pay the extra cost then I'd say get the retina.

However the mere fact your asking this question would suggest to me your not 100% sold on the retina display. Go to your nearest Apple store if possible and look at the retina display. If your still not 100% sure then save yourself some cash and get the classic. :p

It sounds like you didn't even try that test and acknowledge it. Sounds to me like you have an agenda.

$1400 Classic budget gets you:
16GB of DDR3 ram
750GB Hybrid drive

$1500 Retina gets you:
8GB of ram
128GB of SSD storage

And those stats are NOT easy to upgrade on the Retina.

I'll tell you Ploki, I've been reading this forum for about 4 months. I've bought 5 Mac laptops in my life, going on 6. I started with the Power book 100. NEVER have I been this informed before buying a computer. I make some uninformed comments sometimes because I go with what I've read at times, but this forum has been a terrific learning tool for me. I honestly know more than most of the sales people I talk to at the Apple Store. I can't wait till I finally get this thing so I can report to you guys how awesome my machine is and how I made the right decision by waiting for the 2nd generation, then after a few days writing in and telling you guys about the million things wrong with it and should I return it blah blah blah. This forum is priceless

OMG. What are you talking about - all I wrote is my experience with retina/non retina.. retina lagged as hell on ordinary web pages (nothing special, news pages)... non retina did not.. and sb in the thread wants me to try pinch to zoom.. why should I do that? I dont do that on my computers while surfing... if it lags after pinch to zoom, well, I couldnt care less as I dont do that... but lagging while scrolling the website seems to me hell of a problem... I cant stand that.. thats all...

First of all, I apologize for my harsh words. The skepticism on this board gets to me sometimes. Secondly, robvas's example simply proves that often it's not the hardware that causes browser lag, it's how the page is built/scripted.

In any case it's all POV. People have posted they see no lag. Others have. I personally do see lag but it doesn't really bother me. You see it and it bothers you. So there you have it.

Hi. I got a Classic MacBook Pro 13" last week. After getting the MacBook Pro, I have been seeing posts about the Retina MacBook Pro better than the Classic MacBook Pro. I have been worried that the Classic MacBook Pro would be outdated soon and will be discontinued. So I am wondering if the 13" Retina MacBook Pro is worth the money or not? I still have another week till I can exchange it for a Retina.

I am a high school student.

Depends. How much did you pay? What are your uses?

He answered what he uses it for,and the consensus is that he does not need one. However, it seems that he wants one or is not 100% satisfied with his Classic as he made this thread, so...

No, it doesnt.. all I was writing about is my user experience.. I am not searching for answer what exactly is faulty (mb, web, sw).. just saying that I cant live with such a laggy experience that rmbp priovides for now..
