I'll tell you Ploki, I've been reading this forum for about 4 months. I've bought 5 Mac laptops in my life, going on 6. I started with the Power book 100. NEVER have I been this informed before buying a computer. I make some uninformed comments sometimes because I go with what I've read at times, but this forum has been a terrific learning tool for me. I honestly know more than most of the sales people I talk to at the Apple Store. I can't wait till I finally get this thing so I can report to you guys how awesome my machine is and how I made the right decision by waiting for the 2nd generation, then after a few days writing in and telling you guys about the million things wrong with it and should I return it blah blah blah. This forum is priceless

Not sure I'm following. :)

I made an uninformed decision about this machine - the TB>FW adapter doesn't give enough power. But 2nd gen probably wont fix that anyway.
most of the sales people at apple don't know squat anyway... I went to a certified seller once to get MDP to DisplayPort adapter and he was trying to sell me HDMI claiming displayport doesn't exist.

In the classic MacBook Pro, can you change the processor?

No, the only possible items to upgrade realistically is RAM and HD/SSD, virtually all notebooks have extremely limited upgrade paths, yet many persist to blow this out of proportion with the Retina.

Set a budget and think about your usage; will you need to upgrade internal storage? RAM is moot as you can spec a Retina with 16Gb. Go and see both systems side by side and see for yourself, don't be swayed by other peoples purchases or their need to justify it.

Look at the facts, balance your needs versus budget, it will help to narrow down the choice. Not everyone needs or wants Retina, equally not everyone wants the standard MBP.

Retina macbook can't upgrade ram, can't upgrade ssd and can't use an hdd with the ssd. Get the classic one, it will last much more years. retinama macbooks not been upgradable sucks big time!!!!

Umm, no. You can update SSDs, but only with ones from OWC NOW. Soon they will be cheaper and more people will make them. They are only expensive now because the blade shape is new.

interesting. thanks. still, not ram upgradable. they should support from 8gb to 32gb all models. pity...

Hi. Thanks for all the replies. I have made my decision that I'm going to keep my classic MacBook Pro. The retina is not worth is as there are many bugs and some people are reporting glitches in everyday tasks like surfing the web. I don't care about the screen, non retina is good enough. If I need retina, I can use my iPad.
