I re-ordered today so I could upgrade the specs while the shipping estimates were still 1-2 weeks, now THIS?!

Why-you-no.jpg

Would my rMBP arrive according to the shipping estimate on order or current shipping estimate:confused:

Didn't even bother waiting. Bought a hi-res 15" MBP with the same battery life, CPU and RAM as the top end rMBP for $2300.

Also includes more ports, more storage and an optical drive. That to me is worth far more than an SSD of dubious benefit and a slightly higher resolution display which has almost no practical applications. I don't even notice the Retina display on my iPad now. It's just another display. The rMBP is more money for less.

Looks like the bottleneck has been availability of the 2.6 processor which had to be included to get popular configurations, and enabling the use of the slower processor has eliminated the problem.

Probably an Apple employee (why are you here??? ;) ) who can't use their store discount until product availability improves to 24 hour shipping times.

Or a corp client. Our business gets large discounts.

So far I don't like my rMBP. Everything I surf on looks fuzzy and the fonts are larger in some places and smaller in some. I guess Ill just have to wait until the world catches on.

You can't get it.

You don't know that. I'm currently set to save $634 once these hit retail stores, which is more than 25% of the $2500 a low-end rMBP with 2.6/16/256 costs. But of course I wouldn't mind saving more :D

I'm looking at getting one of those too. Dunno if I can combine that with a student discount or not. Even though I'm both.

I plan to set mine to display at native res (yes you can do this), or if I can't stand it 1920x1200, so no problems there. Using it at 1440x900 is just a waste imho.

I somehow doubt your claim.

I just ordered one two days ago and the shipping estimate is still "August 10th-17th". Should I cancel and reorder it?

You're right! I made a mistake. It's actually $644. Here you go:

1) $200 saved via student discount
2) $20 saved when upgrading to 16GB RAM
3) $10 saved when upgrading processor
4) and the ace up my sleeve... $414 saved by purchasing Apple Store gift cards from people on Craigslist (after having the balance transferred to another card in an Apple store, of course).

So yes, $644 in savings.
I have nothing to hide. Why do you?

EDIT: Oh yeah, reason I need to wait until ship-to-store is available is so I can get it in a tax-free state.

That is entirely different from walking in and getting a discount from Apple. Nothing against it and kudos to you, I called it out because your post implied some sort of discount straight from Apple which clearly is not the case.

This is true. But I don't care where the savings come from, so long as they come.

Now, can you be bothered to say how your 25% is coming about or not?

Nope :D

I can tell you that you would not be able to combine it with EDU.

How does purchased gift cards count as money saved if you still spent the money on the cards?
