Nope :D

I can tell you that you would not be able to combine it with EDU.

Well thanks for being so helpful
25% is > $200 saved via education discount, so I'd be perfectly happy with not combining them.

How does purchased gift cards count as money saved if you still spent the money on the cards?

I didn't purchase the cards at full price. I spent ~$2100 for ~$2500 worth of cards. No one would be able to unload their cards on CL if they were asking full price.

Didn't even bother waiting. Bought a hi-res 15" MBP with the same battery life, CPU and RAM as the top end rMBP for $2300.

Also includes more ports, more storage and an optical drive. That to me is worth far more than an SSD of dubious benefit and a slightly higher resolution display which has almost no practical applications. I don't even notice the Retina display on my iPad now. It's just another display. The rMBP is more money for less.

How did you manage to add the HDMI port? I don't see that configuration option. Or make it thiner. Fact of the matter is the current MBP design is becoming obsolete. This time next year the whole MBP line will look like the retina display. You just spent $2300 on a computer that is at the end of it's life already.

It still stands, you won't be able to get that discount.

Unless the requirement is something like "must have walked on the moon" or "must lack internal organs," then I'm not sure how you can be so sure.

Either way, I'm not sure what you have to lose by telling me.

Because people sell them on Craigslist for cheaper. For example, someone selling their $300 gift card for $250 ($50 in savings).

Exactly, except you have to look for % savings, not $ savings (e.g, a $50 card for $40 is better than a $300 card for $250 because you save 20% instead of 16%).

Oh, so those extra options were actually real. People kept telling me that I was "seeing things". :D

People selling itunes cards for less are using stolen credit cards and accounts, I once got investigated by apple for buying these, I hope you don't fund your laptop with stolen money, what goes around comes around you know.....

You didn't have to ask. I never said I was going to state the source of the discount. Just commenting that this is good news for me.

Well when you make a statement like that you ought to expect it'll pique interest. In fact, I'd wager you made the statement for the sole purpose of piquing interest. But since you can't say, I'll just assume you're a troll and move forward with my own (explained) discounts.

These iTunes credits are bought with hacked accounts and stolen credit cards, no one in there right mind will give you 50$ for free, and no one in there right mind would buy a 300 iTunes gift cards to begin with............apple doesn't even sell that...

1) These are Apple Store cards, not iTunes cards, and 2) I met with each person in an Apple Store so they could not only verify the balance but also move it to a new, blank card. I took no chances.

Good for you, but I still think its fishy, these credits could be stolen to begin with...meeting you at an apple store doesn't mean much

Yeah okay. "You won't tell me, so you're a troll."

Talk about High School.

Considering they will be used at an Apple Store when I'm done with them, all I need to know is they'll take them.

I couldn't think of any other explanation. Except maybe it applies to only one person in the world, and if you tell me I could "steal" it from you? If that were the case, you could have responded to my original post with "I can't tell you, it applies to only one person in the world, and if I tell you you could steal it from me" and I would have said "Oh, well congrats on the discount" and that would have been the end of it.

I just ordered one two days ago and the shipping estimate is still "August 10th-17th". Should I cancel and reorder it?

I just got an email from Apple saying, "We are pleased to inform you that your recent Macbook Pro order will ship sooner than expected. Your order will now ship within 5-7 days."

But my shipping estimate is now August 14th-16th. That doesn't seem like an improvement.

True, the MacBook Pro does have more ports and an optical drive but an otherwise equally equipped rMBP - 2.6 i7, 8 GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM, 512GB Flash - costs $300 less than the non-retina MacBook Pro. rMBP 2799 vs 3099 for the MacBook Pro. (fwiw the rMBP also has significantly less screen glare.) Add to that $100 for the HiRes/anti-glare option and now the diff is $400. But this will probably not sway die-hard MacBook Pro fans who want the up-gradeability.

In stock in some stores

My local Apple Store has (had?) them in stock... bought one TODAY, fully loaded. Lucky me! :)

Good. Had to order another one, the base 256GB did not cut it for me. Love the EDU discount + $100 gift card on these.

Also when I called to get the prepaid return label for my current rMBP, the rep gave me free 2-3 day shipping on my new one. :D

EDIT: It Went To Prepared For Shipment.
EDIT2: Shipped and Arrives 8-9-12
