13" rMBP had my first trackpad freeze today after having it for about a week using it for many hours daily. I did what someone suggested and it worked. I just closed the lid, took a phone call, when the phone call was done I raised the lid and went right back to work as it was no longer froze up. I just do not believe this issue is hardware related, because you have folks with older machines that have performed perfectly until Mavericks was installed. I know its frustrating, but Apple will resolve this.

I've actually been looking for an excuse to return mine as I have a 2009 MBP that has worked flawlessly since day one and it has 256gb SSD and 8GB of ram just like my new rMBP does. Just hated spending the money, but wanted the better display.

I honestly couldn't be happier!

Mine has had 2 freezes in 1 week. Not a big issue at present, and love the machine.

HOWEVER, I am scared about having to give a keynote or powerpoint presentation with this machine to a big audience. A freeze would be both embarrassing and extremely frustrating. The solution you mention, works, but is not a good solution for those that rely on their machines to perform when it needs to.

I'm hopeful that the issues people have been reporting with the 13" (keyboard and trackpad input freezing intermittently) plus other oddball issues are all related to a slightly premature release of Mavericks. My fingers are crossed that 10.9.1 is released soon and deals with the majority of bugs.

^^ This

The issue is well known and Apple are preparing an update to fix freezing trackpads and poor performance.

Had mine for a week now. No issues so far. Couldn't be happier.

Obviously there are people that do have issues that will be fixed with firmware & software updates.

Of course I use USB and Bluetooth devices with it.

But maybe my machine was in another product manufacturing cycle, I'm from Germany and my machine came from Czech Republic with ups and not from Shanghai or elsewhere.

Well — what?? What do you mean it's not from China?

since when did apple really fix any simple software issues? let alone ML and lion days.

Oh please. Can we remember what occurred on MR when the Air was updated to 802.11ac and Haswell after WWDC? Some people couldn't even connect to the internet — and with no Ethernet port, there was no way around it other than getting a $29 thunderbolt adaptor. And there was that Photoshop flickering screen of death. I was part of the angry customers at the time. Got 2 machines in less than 2 weeks and called it quit because I left for the summer.

A couple days after I returned the last one, they released a fix and everything worked according to specs after that. No screen flickering, no internet drops.

People had the same comments about Apple never releasing fixes and how it HAD to be hardware related, quoting 802.11ac's onboard card and the iGPU. Now where are these people?

I'm all about how Apple is going downhill with QC. But let's give them a break though. This thing has been out for 2 weeks. I guarantee you that 200 pages of complaints on their website won't remain unanswered. They will release a patch to fix this trackpad/keyboard issue for the 13-inch users. There's no doubt about that.

Foxconn has a factory in Czech Republic AFAIK.

You mean that on the bottom plate it says 'Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in Czech Republic'? For real?

I'm still waiting for main so don't know yet. Maybe chrizzz09 could clarify. I'd still expect majority of the parts being imported from China. But maybe I'm wrong and they buy mostly from factories in Europe (subsidiaries of parental Chinese/Korean companies of course).

If you disconnect the USB and Bluetooth devices, you will probably experience the trackpad and keyboard freeze within a few days of use. From the apple support thread, leaving a USB device plugged in or using a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse prevents the freeze others are experiencing.

No no no :D
It was delivered from Czech to me in Germany, maybe they had there a warehouse with the MacBooks so they don't have to deliver all MacBooks from one place to every place in the world.

I think they send a certain amount of stock to their warehouses around the world...so the delivery ways are shorter. I have to add that i didn't ordered a BTO option but the normal 2.4/8/256 model.

well they haven't respond back regarding to quick shutdown issue...back in SL os x, i haven't had that problem. This is just one of the issues..but okay, i'll give them another chance with os x maverick..and see how they perform...because their track record haven't been improving as of late...

No I agree - I'm still proper upset over their quality controls. Had to have my rMBP replaced 3 times for screen issues and creaks of hell. But I can guarantee you that they will address the issue related to trackpads and keyboards. I'd give it another 2 weeks or so until we see a patch release.

Even though they are well aware of the issue, and that it prob will be fixed soon. Its good that the OP sent it back, it sends a strong signal if 1-10% of the buyers send the macbooks back.

Im keeping my maxed out 13" later 2013, and am having a blast with it. Had 3 freezes in a week. But the workaround is closeing the lid for 1 minute, and the comp is back. I can live with that until they fix it.

I remember back in 2006 where I had to change the battery 3 times, for a brand new battery.. the casing too. BUT it was all free, and they fixed it, no questions asked.

And that machine ran for 8 years.

Maybe I'm more patient but this is rediculus...you couldn't take it to the genius bar or figure out if their was something faulty about some software or a bad component before labeling Apple crap? Jeez....people are impatient, not trying to be an ass but its like going to the store and getting moldy bread and then saying everything in the store is terrible and horrible and you'll never go back. Its just....over dramatic.

Mould spreads yo. You're the one who thinks that is what people are saying but really what people are actually saying is be warned, don't BUY into the hype just yet, it is still TOO soon. That's all and oh, SAVE your cash, it doesn't get better from here, these are just hunks of metal and sheets of aluminum (with Brit accent), what is the big deal?

My maxed out 13" MBP is in transit from Apple as I speak and to be honest, £1,600 for a lappy that may or may not have an intermittent fault is somewhat daunting.

I'm staggered at the number of people prepared to carry water for this megarich conglomerate that should not be allowing intermittencies of this kind leave the factory. Moreover, it's inconceivable that Apple didn't identify this issue prior to these units being released to market. At best it demonstrates shoddy QA, at worst it exposes Apple's contempt for its consumers.

Like someone already mentioned, I too am a busy man and I will not tolerate as much as one freeze up, the sign of which the sucker is going back to Apple's MBP knackers yard.

I've had a couple of freezes in a few days, its perfect otherwise so I'll probably wait for a fix.

I have no problem with those returning over the issue.

It's a premium laptop, if your using it for a presentation and it locks up, I'd return it as well.

Since many say theirs are fine, it could be a hardware issue...
