I returned mine and kept the IP16P for the same reason. My palms and fingers are for sure longer than average; yet, the device still felt a tad too wide for comfortable one-hand usage.

Yes I did feel that too. I got normal hands well average sized hands haha.

You knew screen size was going to be 6.5" if you're on the fence about size, why not wait to play with one in store before pulling the trigger? Apple is going to start implementing restocking fees for all of us, because of people like you

Let's not go after people like this.

I've had MANY Apple employees flat out encourage me to take advantage of the 14 day policy to try out products in the past.

The only reason I’m considering an exchange is the camera. This 1 lens takes good pics but they’re just that. Good. Other than that the phone feels amazing. Battery life is comparable to my 15 which is perfectly fine. And the speaker I barely use.

I also don’t think I will still need 1tb if I keep the air since i won’t be taking more than 1 angle of a shot. With the pro max I always end up using each lens so I can choose which perspective I like the later on. Might be worth swapping for 512GB this year

Playing with the phone for a few minutes in-store doesn’t really give you a good idea of how the size will fare in day to day use in various scenarios (e.g. while grocery shopping, etc).

Also, battery life is kinda all over the place in reviews. Besides, it’s not really something you’ll know until you set up the phone with all your apps and accessories and use it as you normally would. For example, my SOT is usually less than 1 hour per day but bluetooth CGM, no wifi and low signal are my main power drains.

This 100%

You can never get the true experience in the Apple Store when the phone is connected to that silly cable.

Very uninspiring and boring series. Next time just watch online reviews first not to waste your time returning it. And not reviews from large channels but search for smaller ones - they are usually not constrained by Apple’s review guidelines and do not get free devices weeks before global release

I love mine. Screen is beautiful form factor is great. Weight is great. Don't like the big fatty phones.

Seems to do everything I would expect an iphone to do.

I got mine Friday morning at the AT&T store and guy was pushing really hard to do the pro or pro max. Mostly because the camera.

So is apple or att paying these guys spiffs to move the pro models at the expense of the air?

I really dont get that.

Ifix it did a video saying the Air barely gets a full day of battery life and people are returning them in droves

yeah IFix tears down phones so of course they are they perfect source for information on sales figures! I read a lot of things on the internet. I always consider the source. And frankly, all these comments on battery life from the first day of use? Anyone who knows anything knows any iPhone has poor battery life because it's indexing in the background. Talk to me after a week or two of use iFix. Thanks.

Agree, Ive had the same experience, Apple employees have encouraged me to try both pro and air to see which better fits my lifestyle, try out battery during my day, camera, etc. They're not going to tell their customers..."go read some reviews on macrumors and youtube and come back when you have decided!" . Its not this guy who feels the phone is too big that's raising costs of the iphone since it didn't work for him when he tried in the real world. And for people who say the pro is just like air in size, oh gosh, please hold them in hand next to each other, there is a clear width and height difference so for some people that is more of a dealbreaker than other factors (oh no, only single camera, single speaker!)

There are many factors on why the iphone is priced as it is, to account for defects out of box, warranty costs, tariffs, company profits, etc. But the 14d consumer policy is for exactly this reason that the OP is posting, that the phone did not simply work for him in his real life scenario.

Smaller screen uses less power 😉

True, but it's not linear. There are some baseline graphics chores that happen regardless of size. Shrugs. It does seem that the rate of power consumption versus screen size is higher than the rate of power supply of batteries versus size.. i.e the power lines are not parallel. You know this. Bigger phones do get better life, even with bigger screens. :)

Smaller screen phone has less room for battery unless you want to make it even thicker. Here's your smaller screened iPhones. Screen is over an inch smaller. Phone itself is 34% thicker. iPhone 13 Mini has a 2438 mAh battery compared to the 3149 mAh of the Air.

They might not if the knew your return rate :)

Car dealers sometimes do the same to clinch a deal. Send you home to test drive the car if they see you on the fence. They know for most people there is an inertia against returning. But, somehow over the years it's become a given practice for some apple customers, and too many people buy with the intent of returning. unarguably Apple takes this into account in their pricing. Once I did this, bought a phone, changed my mind on storage size and brought it in to return it still in shrink wrap thinking no harm no foul. The Employee promptly took the shrink wrap off and checked all was okay. when I expressed surprise he pointe out he had to check it, and yes, it would go into the refurbish pile, even though it had never been used.

I went there.

Didn't like it. Screen too big for me, missing features, would prefer to keep my money.
That's all.
I’ve done what I never thought I would do and bought an Air. I’m giving myself a week to see if I like it. My goal is to downsize / simplify my gear.

First observation, iOS26 is littered with UI bugs. Really don’t understand how they let this out of the gate.
The phone feels bigger but more manageable than I expected, so far. I’ve yet to leave the house with it so I need to see how that goes.
For me, the biggest drawback to the Air is the single speaker.
I really appreciate that it’s more sticky in the hand than the 16. I wish someone made a sticky skin for the back.

I also just ordered a 12 Mini. If I can’t replace my current combo of the iPhone 16 + iPad Mini with the Air, I’m returning the Air and going back to the mini iPhone + mini iPad. Just hoping the Air will serve to generally minimize my screen time (which is mostly on the iPad) while functioning well enough to suit my needs.

I will say, despite so many glaring bugs in iOS26 and the overall jankiness to it, it has potential. Liquid Glass looks absolutely horrible but reducing transparency causes too many ui issues (white text on light backgrounds).

Edit: Battery Update
I’ve used this phone a lot more than I’d normally use my phone + iPad today. Lots of web browsing, reading the news, checking email, looking at photos, taking photos, looking at Maps / FindMy, about an hour+ of YouTube in browser, Zillowing, 30min of an exercise app, 5 rounds of Fortnite (surprisingly usable - 8% batt per round), two 40+ minute phone calls. All on WiFi.
I’m at 18%. Would easily be over 50% without gaming.
