I've read multiple comments who have said the same thing. The Air is a very big iPhone. A smaller version would be very appealing to many others. If you don't care for one, that means nothing with respect to consumers in general.Said no one ever

So I had pre ordered the Cosmic Orange Pro Max for launch day delivery. On Friday UPS did not deliver the phone and looked like it could take a few days for them to locate the phone and deliver, so Saturday I went to the Apple Store and bought the Air so I could truly give it a try, as I know me.... and the first time I saw one at the Apple Store Id then spend the next year questioning if I would have liked the Air over the Pro. I am on the 1UP program, so I get a new PM annually.
I will say the Air truly exceeded my expectations on how much I was going to like it, and I forgot the excitement for having a truly new iPhone felt, not since the X did I have this awe when holding the phone.
The weight in my hand, how it feels in my hand, and when its in my pocket it was fantastic, Did not feel the weight pulling down on my shorts pockets, etc. The screen is stunning, especially with using the Liquid Glass theme, it just feels like a sheet of glass in your hand. The speaker did not bother me like I expected, It sounded fine for listening to You Tube, etc.
The battery life was fine, no issues with heavy use for the 48 hours either.
My Pro Max delivered today, and I cant get over how heavy this phone feels to me now that I have used the Air for 48 hours, The Pro Max truly feels like a brick now lol.
The decision was tough, much harder than I expected. But the single camera is what killed it for me, No wide angle lens especially became the deal breaker. I was at lunch gathering yesterday with my Corvette group, I tried to get a pic of the cars parked together and I could not get far enough back to get them all in a single frame, where as on the Pro I can just zoom out. I take lots of pictures through the year at car meets, or just day to day and sadly at the end of the day the single camera just was a deal breaker. The night shots are not even as clear on the Air as the Pro.
So this week I will return the Air.
The Air is a solid phone, and if the camera was at least a dual camera, I would have had no reason to return it. To those hating on the air without even truly experiencing it, It is a fantastic phone, both in looks, technology design, and feel.
Great to read your experience, thanks for sharing! I'm also between the Air and 17 pro (have both in my possession) and so far in the last 2 days, the battery seems really good which was my major anxiety initially. I would say perhaps a bit better than my 16p that I'm coming from. Camera and speaker i'm fine with, for me its just the larger width of the Air that makes it a bit more uncomfortable at this time compared to the thicker, rounded, but more narrow 17p phone body. I upgraded this year mainly to experience something different, something that is apparently a transition to the fold phone I ultimately want, so will give the Air a good shot this week and weekend. Still rooting for this thing given how good the performance, the weight and the reasonable battery life I've seen so far!So I had pre ordered the Cosmic Orange Pro Max for launch day delivery. I'm genuinely intrigued at how many folks have bought 2 phones and are returning one to Apple and what's going to happen to those phones - they can be resold as open box I guess, but not sure they would get refurbished this early, or just cleaned and repackaged as there is always a high demand this early on. Must be costing Apple a bit - and they probably don't release that kind of product data, but I wonder if the percentage of returns this year will be higher.

Performance wise, it's not as smooth as the previous Pros I had.I’ve noticed a lot of lag on my Air switching between apps. It was restored from a back up and not sure that makes a difference.
According to an Apple Insider article from 2024, the return rate of the Pro iPhones is around 1.2%, and for non-Pro iPhones around 1.4%. This will include iPhones with actual defects. In all likelihood, Apple repackages those that are still pristine, and redirects most of the rest to used-iPhone resellers later on.I'm genuinely intrigued at how many folks have bought 2 phones and are returning one to Apple and what's going to happen to those phones - they can be resold as open box I guess, but not sure they would get refurbished this early, or just cleaned and repackaged as there is always a high demand this early on. Really? The PM could be bigger and it won’t bother me.People are in denial. All of the current iPhones are too big.
Because I want to and can afford to pay with cash.Im not sure why we all buy the pros as we hardly use any of its features.
It’s a phone. It’s neither heavy or a brick. I don’t understand how people can think a phone is heavy. My Pro Max delivered today, and I cant get over how heavy this phone feels to me now that I have used the Air for 48 hours, The Pro Max truly feels like a brick now lol.
That is true. There is no other way possible to make the iPhone "thinner" without "thinning" the battery, which in turn makes the battery not only thinner, but wider and taller in order to have the Apple's advertised battery capacity. If you want a smaller screen, then you will be sacrificing even more battery. Think about it.
Good idea !Didn't like it. Screen too big for me, missing features, would prefer to keep my money.
That's all.
How do you mention that days after release?Ifix it did a video saying the Air barely gets a full day of battery life and people are returning them in droves
Not much detail in the reasons.I like a thread where people can voice their reasons for returning. Why does this bother so many of you, it’s very weird
The phones are physically almost identical in size, they just shrunk down the bezels to fit the larger screen size, how is that a bad thing?
Restocking fees coming next year, lolLet's not go after people like this.
I've had MANY Apple employees flat out encourage me to take advantage of the 14 day policy to try out products in the past.
I got a feeling Apple factors in the cost of expected returns in the price they charge for the iPhone.
The 17 is 2mm taller than the 16. Would prefer it shorter and same screen size.
Do you think if the return rate dropped, Apple would cut the price? And why bother buying it only to return it, increasing the price of these things for everyone?
You sure it’s taller. I checked today with my iPhone 16 pro against the 17 pro they look exact same to me in measurements.
