By the salesperson telling the OP that the iPhone isn't for him (probably to stop a tantrum) he's insinuating that the OP was involved in the design process that caused the flaw in the device or causes calls to be dropped?

Right lol. That's why it doesn't make sense, therefore the salesperson was wrong. This is all the tantrum/bad day/tired/etc. excuses that could be made for the salesperson aside. Working in retail, those excuses hardly matter if the customer's unhappy, so I don't let it affect my opinion I suppose when talking about this.

I'm constantly amazed that people live in a dream world where employees are not humans, but in fact, magical servants expected to constantly fulfill their every wish, and to make sure and compliment you on your style and good looks at the same time.

First, you were probably being a jerk, so he finally got fed up with you. Second, why are you so thin-skinned that a comment from an employee at a store wounds you so deeply that you have to whine about it on a public forum?

Third, the kind of person who complains to a manager about an employee rather than dealing with it himself is pathetic. If you don't like the way an employee is talking to you, either leave or call him out for it. Don't go find someone with power over him to punish him in your name. It makes you a powerless, whiny, douchebag.

okay wow i went out and came back didn't expect the thread to be this big.
I was nothing but nice to the employee, it was in the UK. I think the guy was just having a bad day but he did say he was pretty tired after saying that but he did speak to a manager before talking to me and i suspect that they said to tell me that. He also said that they wouldn't sell me another phone if i am bothered by it dropping signal. Before he would return it he insisted i should get a case to solve the problems.

Interesting. I had a Nokia before my original iPhone and it dropped calls all the time. Prior to that I had an LG - it dropped calls too. I can't remember a phone I've ever had in the 15 years I've been using AT&T / AT&T Wireless / Cingular / Southwestern Bell Wireless / etc. that didn't occasionally drop a call. I've always considered it the nature of cell phones. It happens.

Saying that the iPhone is a "crappy phone" is your subjective opinion. I find the device a joy to use and own, and it certainly is not "crappy" to me.

No its my experience and seems to be the experience of many owners of iphones . I love it but its not a great cell phone unless you live in some magic place. Ive had many cell phones over 12 yrs. As far as reception its the worst phone Ive ever had but all the good points make up for it.

All the previous iPhones i had have perfect signal where i stay this is the only one that has had bad signal strength, i just find the way the sales person dealt with it was weird and was wondering if anyone else has heard the same thing.

Im jealous because I get close to no signal in my home. lol Thank god for skype. By the way I still want an iphone 4 I figure if I wait for the white they will deal with the bugs for that one.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A293 Safari/6531.22.7)

Sounds like good advice to me!

I would have waited a few more days as I believe it's not a hardware fault at all but a software issue. Oh well, whatever floats your boat. ;)

Just buy a case for it and your reception problems will be solved.

I returned my iPhone 4 today as the signal problems were making it unusable when i returned it i got told that the iPhone wasn't the phone for me and not to buy it ever again. I told the assistant that i have already had previous iPhone when the assistant just told me not to get one again.
