oddly enough, apple has kiosk software running on their rmbp which causes this. i played with the same exact model in bestbuy and it was smooth as butter. in all fairness, i have never seen a machine cause this much confusion as to whats causing what. two people with the same exact machine reporting massively different results. crazy indeed

Why it doesn't happen on the regular MBP running the kiosk software too?

i own an rmbp running ML (gm). its definitely not 'smooth as butter' unless you have a very relaxed definition of it.

uh... because it doesnt have a retina screen, and its a different machine. Did i really have to explain that? strange.

i watched the machine with my own eyes. compared to the ones in the apple store it was smooth as butter. im simply stating that the machine in best buy was 100 percent better than the identical one in the apple store. if you want to debate the definition of butter ill meet you at the pancake house and well do it right.

iHOP sounds like an appropriate place to do it.

I am not sure why giving advice to those that are unhappy about returning it, rationalising the realities of unhappy vs happy customers and being able to objectively see the positives and negatives without hysterical OCD behaviour makes me a fanboy.

I believe I was quoting Lord Appleseed. And, my point was BOTH words are being overused to the point of devaluing them.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to play with 10.8!:D

Using mission control Is one of my every day tasks. Don't try telling me the computer isn't smooth because it clearly isn't. Those telling themselves otherwise are in pure denial. It's a beautiful computer and it's more than usable for most people but for me I personally feel its not ready for me.

Can you people honestly handle the fact that someone doesn't think an Apple product is the end all? I think it's really funny how everyone's a troll too. Get a hobby guys. :D

You seem to have trouble comprehending English, is it your second language?

Could we get any more professional here...

To each there own. If he doesn't like it then he doesn't like it. I love it myself but thats my own personal opinion. Let it be.

honestly. i was on the fence too. my window to return it just closed though. for a machine that cost me $3000, i was expecting something more refined. I opted to keep it in the hopes of apple eventually fixing the kinks with some updates. I have yet to install Mountain Lion, so im hoping that improves scroll lag and such. I also hope a new Chrome is released, as that is the browser of choice for me.

My 2008 unibody has smoother web surfing, which makes me sad.

And in the process you proved my point. I was not referring to the posts about the rMBP, but how easy it is to troll. One single sentence from me, which was clearly a troll post, caused you to go all out.

I agree with you on the fact that trolling is very overused here these days.
The actual trolls of this forum are much easier to find.

I have decided to return my rMBP after a few days of playing around with it. I love the computer but I personally feel that it is not 100% ready yet. I installed Mountain Lion to see if it would help with any of the sluggish graphics and it did, but not enough for it to be unnoticeable for me.

I feel like lots of every day tasks were very sluggish and jittery.. Especially scrolling on certain web pages, sometimes even in iTunes, as well as 90% of the time I used mission control. I noticed the problem even more when having the application opened in full screen.

I would have loved for this computer to be perfect but as hard as I tried to adjust and convince myself it could be fixed in a future update, I just had to say no.

So to my 2010 15" MBP I will go.. It will have to suffice another year.

I just hope next year Apple gets the rMBP as close to perfect as possible.

Yeah, no way I'm touching the rMBP until they get the lag fixed. If it were a cheap HP laptop I'd ignore it, but a 3-4k laptop? Hell no.

It would be like buying a Ferrari that had an engine that made a hideous noise every few minutes. Sure, it would look pretty and get me from point A to point B just fine, but when one pays that much money for a car, it's held to a higher standard.

For those who don't have those high standards, fine - don't criticize those who do.

So simple:

GT650 is smooth.
Intel HD4000 is not smooth at all.

Try it, change it in the Energy Saver, or use gfxCardStatus.

There is NO lag! I think people have a lag in there brain or something, to notice any lag then you aren't doing enough with your Mac! It's probably idling or expecting you to shut down.

Seriously the rMBP is an awesome machine. As a pro developer and 3d artist I needed this machine to be portable and powerful and it lives up to the hype. It churns through not thousands, millions but billions of polygons. While it's doing that I can do retouching in Photoshop, music scoring in Garageband, coding in Sublime Text2 / Xcode all flawlessly. Oh and I can have iTunes / Safari / Mail etc open in the background too.

Too many people don't do enough with these wonderful machines and might be better off with an iPad. This is meant to be a Pro machine for doing real work, not for scrolling web pages and logging onto BookFace.

Intel's Haswell will improve integrated graphics performance over Ivy Bridge by a factor of 2 to 3. Hopefully that'll resolve the lag issue once and for all if Apple cannot do so via OS updates.

won't help much unless apple offers us a new mbpr rev 2 :roll eyes:

but thats some nice info to know, do you have any links?

Well, I was speaking from the perspective of someone who wants a rMBP but is waiting on improvements to lag.

Google something like "Haswell graphics" and you'll get a lot of info on it. Here's one...

I couldn't be happier with my MBPr.. but that's coming from someone who upgraded from an 07 MBP core2duo! It's probably all about perspective, and what exactly you use it for...
