What does this being an Apple forum have to do with anything? You are sharing your experience on a gen 3 phone when gen 8 is current. It would be like sharing your experience with an iPhone 3G when someone is considering buying an iPhone X? Or are you thinking that nothing has changed or improved from 3 to 8? I told you that from 5 to 8 the experience was night and day for me. So no, not very useful in someone trying to decided between current generation devices.

The “Mac” part (or iPad part) yes. But that was only half the argument. The other argument I gave was that using an iPhone gives you access to all services (Apple, Google and Microsoft being the main ones) and most ecosystems.

Android devices don’t get access to most Apple services while an iPhone gives a person more flexibility in the services he can choose to use. IPhones can access most of google’s ecosystem if desired too (Chromecast over Apple TV, Android/Tizen smartwatches over Apple Watch to a certain degree, Google home over HomePod).

Naturally, many, if not most, people don’t use Apple services or devices (simply because most people use Windows/Android), and that’s perfectly fine. But objectively speaking, if someone wishes to have the most flexibility in ecosystems and services, the iPhone is usually (but not always) the one to go with.

True, if your requirement was access to all those ecosystems. But, if you don't use the Apple ecosystem, Android has better integration with the other two, and adds a 4th.

Why are Android users so insecure about their phones? Enjoy what you like most, and let iPhone users enjoy what works for them. It's a daily thing on message boards and real life -- Android users trash talking iPhone users. I just smile and say okay.

I don't believe I've trashed anyone for choosing an iPhone. I like to discuss the pros and cons and frankly help people choose which is best for them. I have been on MR for almost 10 years which is roughly how long I've been using Apple products. But in the last 6 months since moving to some non Apple products and trying to have rational discussions about them, I've been on the receiving end of plenty of "trash talk".

As I said, the Note is sitting on my desk with the screen off....
wake device,
double tap on icon,
pick up Note,
fingerprint unlock,
slide down the notification shade,
find notification I want,
then interact with it... which most of the time leads me into the main app anyway.

Let's count now... That's 7 actions before you can interact with your notification.

On an iPhone I tap the screen or lift the device, 3D touch on notification. Done.

2 steps. Which is faster?

You know what, I think you have not used a s8/note8 before.

Phone on desk with notifications,

Scenario 1 (on standby)
1. Double-tap AOD icon for notification you want to attend to
2. Lean over(face/iris) unlock and you are viewing+replying to the message.

Scenario 2 (on lockscreen)
1. Click reply on the notification you want to attend to
2. Lean over - phone (face/iris) unlock and you are typing reply

Scenario 3.
1. Unlock phone
2. Pull down notification shade (can skip step - using automation to auto pull down shade when phone unlocks)
3. Click reply on the notification you want to attend to

Clearly you missed the part that I said I use a finger print. Face unlock also doesn't work from the angle at my desk. Keep trying though, I enjoy seeing you try to tell me my opinion is wrong.

I don't recall him saying he turned off notifications or enabled "Do Not Disturb"

Not like tapping the screen or holding the phone up is much effort to view notifications anyway

You can't tell me I used the phone wrong, I had it in my hands and the procedure to unlock and interact with notifications is LONGER on a Note 8 than it is on an iPhone 8+.

Also I don't have to check it, there is an audible alert as well as a more subtle yet noticeable vibrate from an iPhone.

Do you see anyone else here agreeing with you? 7 steps is longer than 2 steps.

Sounds like you are more worried about people noticing you with the latest iPhone than its function. That's great that you are happy with the X.

You need to do some research champ - there's an option to disable message previews, and has been for many years. Try again?

Well, you have to regularly on/unlock your phones to check whether you have notifications on iphone. On the galaxy you have LED light/AOD so you dont need to do that so you save time.

This is one of the things which baffles me with IOS users who comment that android notifications are crap and the LED is useless. It is one of the haniest things ever on a smartphone. Especially so for charging. Red=charging, Green = Charged. (blue=notification)

... directed at Apple for their design choices; and in response to a comment about the value of animojis vs. the S-pen. If you don't think my assessment of the target audience for animatojis is accurate, then happy to discuss.

... no bashing there... just sharing my opinion about Apple's design. Are you offended I don't like something you do? My opinion is that Apple will stick with that design for 4 years since that is their pattern.

We're talking about replying to notifications and tbh and my personal opinion about the LED is I couldn't care less. I pick up my phone and I can see my notifications. I don't need a tiny little light flashing to tell me I have notifications when I can see them anyway.

Didn't read any of this, but it's clear you're being fairly defensive. I'm not trying to make you look bad - I just think the alternative section is a better place for you than the iPhone forum, considering what you own and the nature of the posts you're making. Honestly, the Note 8 has its own thread, why not use it?

If you do this, no preview at all. On Android, you can have preview but if you try to modify/reply, you need security. Do you have this option in iPhone?
