My point still stands. The odds of having your Samsung Pay credentials compromised is way less than the odds of having Face or Touch ID compromised. And I doubt your roommate doesn't use any biometrics on his Samsung device.
He said flat out he doesn't use it. I know because I can open his phone simply by swiping it. He doesn't have any security features turned on with his phone.

OP - I feel like you knew posting this was going to basically be the online-forum equivalent of suicide.

I'm fortunate that I have a Samsung phone and an iPhone, yet don't care about either because they're phones.

People are going to be all up in arms, but ultimately – it's a tool that if you decide to stick with iPhone, you'll probably find it does everything you need. If you go with the Note 8, you'll also probably find it does everything you need. People in this thread might support you or make you feel like crap, but honestly, whether its here, or in the future with the Note 8, voicing criticisms about a product will ultimately make it better in the future. Good luck, sir.

So your roommate doesn't use the finger sensor or Iris scanner, and only uses a 12+ Character password that includes numbers, symbols, and caps to unlock his phone every single time. I highly doubt that.

Forgot to mention Samsung's SAR levels tends to be the lowest among OEMs.

SAR levels on iPhone X is still a mystery but here's the iPhone 8's...

1.32 W/kg (head)
1.36 W/kg (body)

SAR EU
1.19 W/kg (head)
1.17 W/kg (body)

Note8 is like 0.34 for head. Got to put a case on iPhones or too much EMF. Remember, I also turn on data, GPS, and tether it. I don't care what click bait websites says that SAR doesn't matter. Medical folks wants us to get sick and die to pay their bills.

Samsung is into the medical field. Think of the company as a renaissance man.

You got to go with works best for you. But isn’t there enough of these threads. Just use another one already here. This place gets cluttered up with all these threads for the same thing.

Everything in security is relative based on how likely it can be implemented (theoretical vs practical) and if it's local or remote (more severe).

The MST attack is more theoretical since it's a local attack that has to be between 1" of MST's working distance along with other required conditions.

Compare to the Apple Pay attack that's remote over WIFI or internet.

Hi All,

I know this is a Mac forum, but I have to vent somewhere.

I've been an Apple fan since the first iPhone, but unfortunately the X has not hit the mark for me, and this is the first occassion I've decided to move away.

I bought an X on Friday and have used it for a couple of days. I really just can't get on with it- the face id is frustrating, and although it works everytime, it's annoying to have to hover over my phone when on my desk at work to unlock it. The main issue I have is the video playback moving from a plus. It's just not big enough, and when expanded the notch is frustrating.

Some of you may say, why not just get an 8 then? Well, I'm sorry but I really feel like the 8 is basically the same phone as the 6, which I've already upgraded 3 times (6+ > 6S+ > 7+).

A couple of the guys in my team have android devices and the main one that's caught my eye is the Note8. The screen is stunning, the picture looks so vivid and the aspect ratio of the device makes viewing videos a pleasure.

I've purchased directly from Samsung, who now have a 28 dya no quibble returns so lets see how I get on. I'm sure I'll be back, but prob not until the 8 range gets a good facelift.

Let the flaming begin....

Note 8 is great device..but you have to live with TouchID in the back. Hope they come up with on screen TouchID in next year.

OP I'm like you, I want the Note because had it with iphone, but just be aware that if your N8 is on your desk, and you wanna continue using touch ID, you got to pick up the N8 because the FPS is on the back. That may be more of an inconvenience than FID.

I'm holding out for the Note 9 because I suspect it will be under the display with the N9.
You can use the FPS AND either iris or face on the Note 8. I like iris better than face. It's very fast. So I don't pick up my phone to unlock it when it is on my desk. The is also the proximity mode but I don't use that.
You would either have to be stupid enough to open and use Samsung pay while allowing a stranger to be extremely close(inches) to you to steal a token, or someone to have access to your device. That would be the equivalent of giving someone your Apple ID credentials. It's almost an impossible task in a real life scenario. Also, tokens expire after 24 hours.

Unless you are part of the Mission Impossible team, Samsung Pay isn't getting hacked.
I agree. And considering you can use it at twice a many places, it's net going to be way more secure than using a card.

I love the X, but I posted before that I think Samsung S8 looks amazing! I'm hooked on Apple's eco system and the integration of iCloud, iWatch and iPhone.

real discussion starts when Galxy9/Note 9 comes with FPS in screen..lets see how apple handle this.

Do what you gotta do. I have a Qi stand that I set the phone in at my desk. Face ID is a breeze with it. Added bonus that it charges my phone without the effort of plugging in. Double bonus that I had a Nokia charger from my lumia days.

I don’t view this as a compromise st all though I’m sure some might. To be honest I see notifications better than I ever did in this orientation.

I am a tech guy as well. If I have to fiddle with things , it is not worth it to me. I spend my whole day fixing crap that doesnt work. I dont want my personal devices to be like that as well. The whole reason I switched to Apple was because the "it just works" thing. My friend switched to an S8 and promised me it was PERFECT! I then got it and was likw WTF, I thought it was perfect and asked how his worked in certain scenarios. Turns out he used literally NOTHING of the features, but text and KODI and MODBRO. lol. Because he could use KODI on it, that was the part that sold him. . . . All the while he never plugged it into anything or used any core functions.
While I will not say that Apple has not slightly fell off that path, it is deff much different than a fragmented OS. But OS aside, I can get used to changes no problem. Its when things dont work and core things dont work that the issue is. There is a reason why Apple stuff is still the primary compatibility point for ALL MANUFACTURERS!
Look into infuse if Kodi is a point of interest. It’s a pod app but it is downright fantastic. There a free version too but doesn’t play all formats. It will also do chromecast streaming.

Hey dude.

Got them both at the moment. Galaxy S8 been using since April, iPhone less then a day. They are both great devices. But I find it a bit funny how you complain about Face ID while the Galaxy's implementation of both, Face scan and Fingerprint scan are crap. Fingerprint does work well but is next to the camera which have been really pain for me. Face scan is crap. Iris scan is even worse. If there is one thing I really love about the latest Galaxy phones is that beautiful screen. But Android mashed up with Touchwiz stuff is something I have liked less. Anyway, hope you enjoy your Galaxy phone.

What do you mean face scan is crap? It may not be as secured but it is certainly not crap. It is way faster than what I seen with FaceID. Iris is also very fast but you have to hold the phone up just like you do with FaceID. FPS at the back is more natural and easier to reach than on the front. Once you got used to the position, it is much more effortless than on the front.

It definitely is for me, and that may be understatement. There are times when it just doesn't want to recognize the face at all, regardless of me trying different angles. And other times does it right away. So yeah..... I would not really call that a great. I have stooped even paying attention to it now, just adopted to the fingerprint reader on the back, which is quite fast if you manage to find it without covering the camera instead.

Hope you find the phone you like but...hovering slightly over the iPhone for FaceID as opposed to...picking up the Note 8 to use the finger print sensor on the back of the phone?

For me Iris works better than Face and is sometimes so fast its like it's not easy even locked. You do realize you can use more than one. I use FPS along with Iris so which ever one I hit first or is more convenient opens. I don't find the FPS placement to be that bad, particularly with a case to guide the finger.

I do the exact same thing with Iris on the Note 8 using a Samsung wireless charging stand.

I still haven't setup iris so I can't offer input. As for the note 8 FPS it is way faster than the 7plus one and accurate when wet and for the people that can't find it I don't know what to say u got problems. From day one my finger rests right onto it. Cases also have a groove on that side which makes it even easier for you.

You'd be surprised how many actually prefer the fingerprint sensor on the back of a smart phone. It's not for me, but it's not as cumbersome as some Believe.

Yes, Iris scanner works fine, the issue with that is that you will have to have your eyes framed in the particular location and it keeps blinking red lights (which is not a big deal but still)
I have only been able to choose between Face scanner or Iris scanner, combined with a password. Unless there is a recent update that unable both at the same time. like it was initially.

I’m referring to the specific scenario he mentioned, where he wanted to be able to access the phone while it’s laying flat on the desk. Fingerprint sensor on the back wouldn’t have solved his problem.
