While I still believe iOS apps are just better overall, the truth is, the iPhone X just underwhelmed
I have a s8 (office phone) and a 7 plus . The smasung is a beauty of industrial design and has a screen to die for..
And without samsung we would be in 7th generation of iphone 4!
But.... When wifi broke down in the middle of a meeting recently it was 7 plus Hotspot that worked with no interruption..
And that for me is the crux... Ios somehow seems to work reliably..

Android has come a long long long way since the days of gingerbread and honeycomb. In fact in terms of development and maturity it is far more than Ios. In my opinion, Apple really need to work heavily on IOS. Some parts of it are a complete mess including Springboard, notifications, settings and default apps.

Android devices have come a long way as well, especially Samsung who's Galaxy line from the S6 is fantastic and gets better and better.

Historic views are pointless in the smartphone world.

To the OP, Samsung has an app called FLOW which tethers your phone to your pc via Bluetooth. If i remember correctly it will keep your phone unlocked during the tether.

Another way is to connect your phone to your pc via Bluetooth and set your pc as a trusted device (probably the simplest way tbh).

If you do go android, dont pretend you have an iphone and become fustrated and give up after no time.

I suggest to everyone moving to android to sit down with the device and go through all of the settings and sub settings and get a feel for what the phone can or can't do.

Most android complaints are because the user did not read the instructions!

Best off luck
samsung doesnt even make the best android phones.
From my experience with both, your statement was true several years ago. Today, the tables are turning. My Note 8 just works, quick and smooth. I've not needed any updates to fix anything. How many releases does Apple need each round to get it right? Their stuff is getting buggier and buggier at release time, and the competition seems to be getting cleaner and cleaner. How do you even break the calculator app????

You can beat iOS. I can buy any phone I want, and the Note 8 (to me) beats iOS. I found iOS getting more and more complex, but yet still being somewhat boring... if that is even possible. Part of it is that all the crap that Apple is adding is of no interest to me. On the X, I can animate myself into a poop emoji. On the Note 8, I can run two apps on the screen at the same time, watching a video, while responding to email. That is the kind of stuff that has led me away from iOS.

but after 5-6 months that note 8 will slow down lol. i had a s8 plus from day one im not biased towards and software but ios ages well unlike android with touchwiz on top. after 4-5 months my s8 plus slowed down tremendously and i only use my banking apps, facebook and maybe 1 or 2 other apps. also on android phones if you buy from a carrier its nothing but bloatware, thats the beautiful thing about apple devices they do not allow carriers to put bloat on them. my s8 plus there would be random games popping up on my phone (i dont have kids) and that really slows down the OS.. also had the google pixel....even that clean UI still lagged. apple does it the best hands down. androids dont age well at all i can go pick up my GS7 and wont be able to do anything because the lag is awful and thats after i factory restored it and put it up in my closet

I understand that. But you do realize that the Note 8 also has Iris scanning/facial recognition and passcode entry if one wanted to use it. There are other alternative security methods offered regardless.

Perhaps, but they can be beaten by a photo, so....no thanks.

i for one would like to hear an unbiased review of the Note 8, so if you could come back ad do that it would be great. I'm an Apple guy but not tied down to the company, I'll choose other products if they offer a better experience and better product. Price has never been an issue for me, I'm just looking for the best.

Hi haqsha23,
I'll give you a super short unbiased review of the Note 8 vs the iPhone 8. Can't comment on the X as I have ZERO interest in it.

I have the iPhone 8, iPad Pro 10.5 and late 2017 13" MBP i7, 16GB ram, 1TB. I also have a work issue Note 8. If you rely heavily on iMessage, FaceTime and Apple calendars then don't buy the Note 8 or any Android for that matter, they simply don't play nice together.

Other than that...the Note 8 blows away anything Apple has made in their iPhone range.

Note 8 hardware is nice. And only getting nicer every year. But unfortunately that “cool” factor wears off after a short while, and it becomes all about the experience and usability. That’s where android fails. I don’t care what anyone says, iOS is far superior, period.
best comment. yes the note 8 is dope and looks great. but give it 5-6 months, random rebooting and lag. ios is the best

Note 8 is a nice phone but I just can't stand Android. I would go with Note 8 or Pixel 2 if I had to go Android.

You'll be back to an iPhone ;-)

Also, you can't beat Apple's customer service.

If you ever have issues or need your Samsung repaired - good luck dealing with your carrier store or Samsung store (I don't even know where one is located).

Hi All,

I know this is a Mac forum, but I have to vent somewhere.

I've been an Apple fan since the first iPhone, but unfortunately the X has not hit the mark for me, and this is the first occassion I've decided to move away.

I bought an X on Friday and have used it for a couple of days. I really just can't get on with it- the face id is frustrating, and although it works everytime, it's annoying to have to hover over my phone when on my desk at work to unlock it. The main issue I have is the video playback moving from a plus. It's just not big enough, and when expanded the notch is frustrating.

Some of you may say, why not just get an 8 then? Well, I'm sorry but I really feel like the 8 is basically the same phone as the 6, which I've already upgraded 3 times (6+ > 6S+ > 7+).

A couple of the guys in my team have android devices and the main one that's caught my eye is the Note8. The screen is stunning, the picture looks so vivid and the aspect ratio of the device makes viewing videos a pleasure.

I've purchased directly from Samsung, who now have a 28 dya no quibble returns so lets see how I get on. I'm sure I'll be back, but prob not until the 8 range gets a good facelift.

Let the flaming begin....

No flames from me. I’ve a Note 8, a Galaxy S8+ and an iPhone X. Each have their relative merits. Personally I find the S8+ to be superior to the Note 8 because the Note is just too freaking big. It’s fine in my suit pocket but otherwise the near tablet dimensions are just absurdly big. My biggest issue is I can’t be discreet with it. If I’m reading emails, watching a vid or messaging anyone sitting to either side of me can clearly see/read it.

But the S8+ is kinda weird being so tall. But it’s easier to be discreet with it.

My X is once again my EDC device. Perfect size, perfect weight/power ratio.

I’ll likely hand off the Note 8 to one of my IT employees. It’s a nerdgasmic device to be sure.

Yeah, but insecure security methods is not really an option

No, you're conflating two different things. Facial recognition was defeated by a photo. Iris scanning (Which I already indicated) is entirely different method from my first Post you commented on, which Has not been proven "Insecure." So it is an option.

If you think Face ID is frustrating, wait until you see how bad Samsung Facial recognition is and their Iris scanner. I can promise you it is much worse, and the fact that it is not as secure.
Also provide feedback on USB-C connection issues? I have had plenty.
Lastly, I will admit the screen is MUCH nicer on the Samsung. But I can afford things like TV's and Projectors and such. I dont base my phone interest on watching movies on it. Watching Youtube vids here and there or stuff embedded on Facebook does not bother me as much as the poor implementation of other core things.

Also, give your feedback of the mess of notifications you will get and the string of icons cluttered at the top of the notification area, ect, ect. The apps are not quite as nice or rich. You will get very little support from Samsung when you call there. Their own people do not even use Samsung products.

Please see this video. If you want the upload showing the pho
nes not working in any of my cars, I can upload tonight

I can use the facial recognition and turn off the Iris scanning, while not as secure it works great, just as good as Face ID in fact. My phone rarely leaves my pocket, unless i'm sleeping at night. The support I have received from Samsung has been outstanding. The notifications are highly customizable.

Here's my take, non-biased on both the Iphone X and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and or S plus.

The samsung screen smokes all Iphones, it's not even close.
The battery life on both devices are very good.
The Iphone X is for sure faster
The Iphone X camera is a bit better, but not in low light.
Android is more open, customizable and can make for a better user experience.
The imessage experience and texting experience overall is better on Iphone.
Samsung's fast wireless charging requires no expensive add on adapter.
Samsung's NFC isn't locked to Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay beats Apple Pay hands down, no contest.
I'll give a slight edge to the App store over the Google Play store
I like Google Music over Apple Music
Android Auto beats Apple Car play easily, it supports Waze, Google Music and Spotify.
I like being able to double press the power button to open the camera, wish Apple had this.
I'm not a fan of how locked down the Apple system is.

In summary, the texting experience of Iphone kills Android for a lot of users. On the flip side the locked
down nature of IOS kills it for others on the flip side. Both are awesome devices. I would take
Samsung over Iphone 8 models anyday, but the X with the comparable oled screen makes it
a closer call.

I am test driving the iPhone X and the Note 8 this week. I have to say that I love the Note 8 and like the iPhone X. Coming from a 7+, it is difficult to adjust to the smaller screen and the 8+ looks is just boring to me in 2017.

Android Auto was a huge surprise to me. It is great! I wish Car Play would give us map options, but I have been a Apple customer a long time (every iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, MacBook Pros, Apple Watch), so I know that they will not allow it.

I found acceptable ways to transfer files from my Mac to the Note 8 and now that Movies Anywhere basically matches your iTunes library, I don't have to worry about most of my movies transferring.

All of this sounds great except when it comes to messaging and face time. Face time to me is a little easier to get over. I can get my family to download Google Duo and that shouldn't have to be an issue. However, since my friends and family almost all have an iPhone, messaging will be terrible. There are chat groups set up on iMessage. Sending or receiving photos, movies, GIFs, stickers, etc is a terrible experience through MMS. This issue alone will most likely have me keep my iPhone X. I just wish there was a plus version. I also wish we could have a little more customization. The iOS system works great it is just getting very stale for me.

Samsung's fast wireless charging requires no expensive add on adapter.

What adapter are you referring to? When the iOS update is released the iPhone X (and 8 Plus for that matter) will support fast wireless charging with even the Samsung charger. It's no different than buying one for the Galaxy series of phones.

Now, if you had said "fast charging requires no expensive add on adapter" you'd be correct.

Did you even read the article that you just posted or did you Post the first search from Google? Please tell me who is going to go those lengths to hack an iris scanner by obtaining a contact lens, printer, camera and enabling night mode AND successfully photograph the eye open while they're sleeping ? Nice attempt at deflecting. The Same argument made about Anything security related.

Direct quote from the article you posted, which even agree's its not "Easy."

"Would any reasonable hacker go through all these steps, when it's likely possible to steal your data more easily? Surely not"

You are absolutely right about MMS. . . When sent from an iPhone to an Android device, the video ends up extremely pixelated. This is one of the main reasons a good friend of mine switched to the iPhone. His wife would send videos of their son from her iPhone and they came across horribly on his Galaxy.

Also, don't forget the character limit of SMS before it breaks into two or more messages.

DID YOU NOT READ THE ARTICLE?????? Look at the title........

It's Alarmingly Easy To Hack The Samsung Galaxy S8's Iris Scanner

A camera, a printer, and a contact lense. That's all it took.

PSA

Low SAR.

^ People need to pay attention to that. Samsung usually has the lowest SAR. My stepfather had a tumor because he has been using cell phones since the Zack Morris phones. That's nearly 30 years of radiation. Better to be safe than sorry.

Apple iPhones generally have the highest SAR. You can brush it off but it's like someone telling you not to eat junk food or smoke and you still do it anyway. One saving grace with the Dasher menu being inferior on iOS v Android's for me is I swapped my sim to a phone with less SAR than the SE.

Too much EMF. I need data, GPS, and hotspot turned on. Safety first. No need to show off if it has health risks. You can use a case but that's still radiation coming through. Now I have the SE always on airplane mode to stop radiation. This isn't about Samsung vs Apple. This is about health.

Samsung is a diversified company. They even have patents for aerospace.

Soon you may also be taking Samsung-branded prescription drugs, consuming Samsung energy drinks, wearing Samsung make-up, and – if the company continues to pursue its manifest destiny of conquering every technological category in the world – orbiting the Earth in a Samsung spaceship.

You may never buy a Samsung product but you can never avoid that their DNA is everywhere.

Have you actually use a Note 8? I have no substantial difference in usability vs. iOS, but it does have a number of things that add productivity vs. iOS. So disagree with your "far superior" claim. They are both great systems... its a question of which one checks more of the boxes important to you. The only place iOS really provides any additional ability is in Apple's ecosystem. The device itself comes up short.

best comment. yes the note 8 is dope and looks great. but give it 5-6 months, random rebooting and lag. ios is the best

And you know this how? I mean its "dope" and all... but how would you know that it will have random reboots and lag in 6 months when it hasn't existed that long.

Well gosh, the title says it so it must be true. I don't think you read it. Not sure how easy it is to get a hi res picture of someone's iris (both of them) with an IR camera, and get a contact that is the shape of their eye, and then fuse that together, while also having possession of the phone. Other than an optometrist with special equipment and skills, there is no human I come in contact with that would be close enough to me to capture IR images of my iris suitable for this "hack". I think it would be a lot easier to find a close relative of an X owner to open an X. I'll take my chances on the iris thing.

Why would you need to indicate that I need to read the title, versus when I read the article itself. Also, I'm not sure why you don't answer any questions posed to you, and, you didn't read the article itself and it's clear in your post. As The article itself clearly states, No reasonable ahacker is going to go to those methods to obtain contact lens, printer a camera and to have the individuals be fully photographed, which has to be successfully converged for it to work. AndThat sounds easy to you because that's what the article title states? Seems you just want to argue semantics versus something that you googled without reading.

Do you even know the probability of somebody successfully trying this on their first attempt having all the proper ingredients that would work together and have the other individuals Capture the iris successfully? But I assume you will keep refuting something that you're claiming is easy without you having experience with.

Don't forget you need to capture the iris (both of them) with a high res IR camera. Its quite expensive to convert a DSLR to IR, so that alone is pretty hard to come by. Unless you are a very high profile individual, there is no common thief or hacker that is going to attempt such "easy" methods to break into your phone.

I’ve been using iPhone since first gen. However, I’ve switched to Android once, and used many of their devices for work and other projects.
I first Switched to google nexus(forgot the exact name, but was the first pure android by Google) around 2012-13, because a friend works for google brought it over to show me and I loved the app switcher and bigger screen. Everything was good until your use it for a while, here are the issues that I’ve encountered:
1. It slows down after a few firmware update. If you think Apple purposely slow down their devices when new ones come out, you will experience the same but even worse on Android. I still today hear complaints from my honest android user friends about this issue.
2. Most apps were design for iOS first then ported to the android plateform.
This is not to say the android one will always have worse performances, because it’s not the case sometimes. But there is still chances you will see the issue, that’s something iOS user will never notice.
3. Overall running speed is slower, this might be a combine issue of the first two, and also because the ecosystem as whole just less optimized.
This is a bigger issue and might not be solved for a long time, yes you can get the new pure android like pixel or One Plus. But what if you want to switch? This time you want Samsung’s beautiful screen but next time you might want the faster One Plus, just because they are all Android it doesn’t mean their UI/UX are the same. They actually feel completely different. Now you have something saved on the Samsung note or whatever native software they have to work with their stylus, then need to figure out how to get those files transfer and also work on another android. There might be a way, but you need to waste your time to figure it out.

I love Samsung’s display, Pixel’s Camera, LG’s wide angle Camera, Huawai’s second Leica monochrom Camera, HTC’s design, and Essential (what a beautiful phone and material choice). But you still can only choose one, in the same time sacrifice the best user experience that iPhone offers. I am also very deep into Apple’s ecosystem, I have macs, Apple Watch, Apple TV, iPads and air pods. They all just work, and work well together, this seamless experience so much more than a single phone can offer.
