Funny how even politely worded posts are being voted down. If so many people are unhappy with their iPads perhaps they should simply return them & buy something else?

I know! Especially when some have returned 5+ iPads. Either they need to wait a few months, decide maybe it's not right for them, or adjust their medication.

I never suggested that people who are unhappy with the screens on their iPads need medication, I offered empathy & answered the question asked, "are there actually iPads out there with good screens"

I take offense to the idea that those of us who are happy with our devices are keeping defective products because we're either too dumb to tell a good screen from a bad or such rabid fanboi's that we'll keep anything Apple chooses to sell us.

Bottom line, you are paying for this device, if you are unhappy with it, you have every right to exchange or return it for a full refund, I'm not sure what else any of us can suggest as a solution.

Just by your typing you come across as a mr. Know it all and on top of that you think you are an M.D., I have news for you , you have very low self esteem and get a kick on belittling people. Grow up!

What motivation would I have to lie?

I think you guys respond so negatively to posts like this because your iPads have the same problems mine did, only you convinced yourselves that you don't notice and that it's normal. So when you see someone like me not putting up with it, the only way you can feel good about your purchase again is to tell yourself I'm lying, or I'm too picky, or not everything is perfect so I should put up with a sub par product.

Saying ignorant crap like the above is EXACTLY the kind of thing that discredits you in people's eyes. You just stated that you think you're the only person with the brains or the guts to recognize a problem such as this. In your own title you asked if you were possibly just unlucky, but then you state that everyone else has crap screens too, seeming to sound like you refuse to accept the possibility that you were just unlucky.

I understand if you feel offended. That was a rashly written post and I regret writing it. I was angered by the earlier posters not believing I had a legitimate problem. If I could rewrite it, I would write it like this:

I looked at display iPads in several different stores and saw good screens. I tried three different iPads expecting a screen as good as the ones on display and I was disappointed. I don't understand why anyone would think I'm lying about this. I don't own shares in Apple's competitors; I'm just your average consumer trying to buy what was advertised to him. I have a macbook pro and an android phone. I'm no Apple fanboy and I'm no Apple hater. I hate waiting for and dealing with exchanges just as much as any other sane person. After one person implied I was trolling and another suggested I was lying, I wondered if all new iPads suffer from the problems I described, and some just have a higher tolerance to them than I do.

The fact that I felt like the product I purchased was inferior to what was advertised should be enough to deserve an exchange (and, to Best Buy's credit, it was) but some people here seem to think that I should have been happy with what I bought. I disagree with that notion. As a consumer spending $600 I intend to be satisfied, and if I am not then I do not expect satisfied consumers to belittle me and tell me my standards are too high. You should be ashamed of yourselves and several people in this thread owe me an apology.

I certainly do NOT feel that anyone should just sit back & keep a device that is defective. Clearly, as with any device that is mass produced, there are going to be a percentage of iPads that are not perfect.

OP, you are well within your rights to exercise your options to exchange or return any product you deem defective. you came here & asked a question about how others fared with their ipad screens, I answered you honestly & respectfully, I'm not sure what else anybody can say or do to help you here?

Hey, don't feel bad. I get nailed all the time as being too Pro Apple. You are just the "Anti-Me".

Seriously, your "code" language is too obvious. Also, the polite, articulate responses are a dead giveaway. :apple:

Seriously? I'm sorry if being polite and articulate is not something that Apple fanboys are used to, but I'm not lying about what I've experienced. I don't know what "code" you're talking about, but I'm definitely not anti-Apple - I'm typing this post on a macbook pro that I'm very satisfied with!

Just keep exchanging it until you get one that is good. They are out there. It may take a couple of returns. And keep posting about it as this will get the tighty whiteys of the fan boys in a bunch.

If you are getting an exchange from the same store, I would just get a refund and buy it from somewhere else.
Chances are.. Your BestBuy got a batch of the production, so you'll be picking one from the same pot.
There are many stories about getting defective one after another. So you're not the only one.

For what the iPad costs, a person should expect it to be up to par and not settle for one that has defects. I don't blame the OP for exchanging it.

Dear Graphpaper:

I did return my first 3rd gen iPad, but not because the screen was bad. In fact, it was gorgeous. But, I purchased the 32GB, and after a couple of days, I realized I wanted the 64GB.

I was VERY nervous about giving up the beautiful screen, fearing that I would get one with problems. Thankfully, the second one is as perfect as the first.

So, are you unlucky, or am I lucky? Dunno. Anyway, good luck on your next iPad.

Sincerely,

Greytmom

Well isn't that great, good for you but not everyone has! So unless you know what a bad screen is your comments are useless.

Funny, I thought your comment was useless, because it doesn't help the op find the "elusive" perfect screen. Your comment just screams without actually being useful, except to start a flame war. Where mine was a response to your useless comment. If that makes my comment useless, so be it.

If anyone is wondering, I returned the iPad and got my money back. After reading through dozens of similar posts on macrumors and other forums, I've come to the conclusion that if there are any screens that will be up to my standards, it's probably going to take a lot more than three replacements to find one. And three replacements was already trying my patience.

Good luck to anyone trying to get an even looking screen who happens to come across this thread!

It's the same story with all of these kinds of things. Yes, some people are having issues with their screens. The vast majority of people are not. The ones that are get on forums like this and make a lot of noise about it and people assume that there's some huge problem.

Most of the time when people post that "I'm having no issues with mine", it's not that they are saying that there is no problem at all or that the person complaining is not having a problem, they are just trying to bring some balance to the situation. At least that's how I feel.

If you've been on forums like these for as many years as I have, you see this happen over and over. It's just the nature of the beast.

Perhaps, but how do you explain some people requiring many exchanges, and even going to different stores in different towns? If it were really a small problem with only those affected making noise, why would the problem follow a single person around? Are these people lying or are their standards higher than other people's?

I have enough anecdotal evidence to convince me that if you score perfect or nearly perfect on this test, you see issues on most Retina iPad screens.

If you have really exceptional hue discrimination ability, you're going to see these subtle color shifts that most people just don't see.

My first iPad 2 had a dead pixel, so I got it replaced for free- the 2nd one had no issues.

My first new iPad had an odd blue splotch underneath the LCD. The second one seemed great at first, but eventually I discovered that one corner of the glass had a "soft spot"- if I tapped the screen any harder than a light press, it would apply pressure to the LCD screen underneath- I knew this could be a recipe for disaster, so I had this one replaced as well. The third one also seemed fine at first until I noticed some debris trapped underneath the display in one of the corners. It was small enough to where I figured I can live with it.

If at first you don't get a perfect screen- try and try again until you're satisfied. But at some point, for the sake of your sanity, your standard of satisfaction may need to be lowered. The reality is that these are mass produced products and there is unfortunately no feasible way to guarantee that every device will be perfect.

Very true. I scored a perfect 0 on the test and see every defect in every LCD screen I have ever owned. I still have yet to see an evenly tinted or non tinted iPad screen. I just try and live with mine but I still notice it. My 27" ACD also has some tint issues. The closest to perfect screen I own is my 17inch MBP with the Anti-Glare screen.

For me whenever I see a post like this I have to wonder if people are trying to be obsessively picky about the product. I've purchased two iPads, and everyone in my family and part of my extended family also have iPads. Nobody has ever had any issues, aside from dumping sweet tea onto one. :( Anyway, I'm not saying that yours didn't have issues, but that seams weird to have three with issues.

Perhaps you could check a different location and see if Best Buy had just received a bad batch. I would try that first.

The iPad 3, with the retina display, is calibrated to the warmer color temperature. This warm color is ideal for picture viewing, and that is where the retina display shines most.

Most PC display on the markets are also calibrated to cool color temperature, where as all the Apple Cinema Displays have warmer colors, for the professional photographers.
