A better option would be just to call them and request a new MBP overnighted to you. It'll cost them $50 and save you "time and convenience."

tylero, I think you should keep the original MBP as compensation and send back the charger. I mean, if you're going to keep something for compensation, might as well make it worth your while right?

agh you're on my wavelength ;)

They won't accept the return at all. Really, I'm surprised this is even open for discussion. The package contents must all be there.

I lol'd

If your time is worth anything, send back the charger. Like jessica said, they will flat out reject the return and send it back to you. And then you'll have to send it back in.

Why mess around? I just went through the replacement process and had to send everything (including the remote and VGA adapter) that came with the original computer.

You run the risk of causing additional problems/charges if they do find you did not include everything.

(Apple did send me a new remote and adapter since they are no longer included with the new model).

Keep it.

I sent my iPod in without the accessories and they didn't do anything about it. Sent me a new iPod complete with all the accessories so I have two of each now.

Crappy earbuds and a sync cable don't really compare to a magsafe adapter though. But like other posters have said, they're either going to reject the return or ding your CC.

Listen to this man (I mean user, I do not know the gender of this user). He has gone through the replacement process, and has experience.

adequate compensation for sending me defective goods in the first place if you ask me...

U can't just deputize yourself as an agent of the karma police without consequence. Keep the power adapter and as a result in a month or a year or a decades time karma will slap you down...
U won't know when its coming but it will. Karmas a bitch like that.

You obviously aren't going to listen to us, the forum. You obviously want to keep the charger. Keep it. But don't say we didn't warn you. We told you it wasn't a good idea, nor is it a very honest thing to do. It is your own decision, and our opinions shouldn't matter in this situation. It is a matter of your conscience, and a matter of avoiding future hassles.

You should take a photo of the magsafe adapter and include it with your MBP. and keep the adapter.. Best of both worlds.

A full replacement isn't sufficient for you?
You need to make a $79 profit?
Really?

While I agree with you, I also could see the customer CALLING apple and asking if they can keep it. If apple says yes then why not? Dont try to wing it and not return it and essentially "steal" it b/c they dont notice.

Just call and ask

...do you "really" need two chargers (the new replacement will come with all the same accessories)?

Crap, I barely use my current charger for my whitebook and my battery life is rated no where near these new models, I have a removable battery whitebook...

If the thing breaks, applecare usually covers it...

Yep. If you want compensation, call and ask for it - or sue in small claims court, though you will have to prove the damages. If you just "help yourself" you are stealing.

And if you unilaterally decide that $79 is adequate compensation for your time, then I can guarantee that you will read on these forums that someone actually called Apple for compensation, and received more than the charge is worth. I can guarantee this because if I have to I will sign up as a new user and make up the story.... but I won't have to, Karma will arrange it for me. :D

Hi there so my original MBP arrived complete with a large dent and as a result I have a replacement coming. My question is, when I send the defective MBP back can i Omit the charger? Is apple actually likely to bother going to all the effort to contact me about a now second hand charger?

What you are asking translates as follows:

"Hello everyone, I would to steal a $79 item from Apple, please help me to NOT feel like the thief that I clearly am".

If you want to be a thief, be thief. It shows even poorer character for you to ask others to help you not feel bad about something that you clearly should feel bad about.

PS. I hope that they DO charge. Who do you think makes up the difference in the long run?

I honestly dont think they would mind, how much does it cost to make the item? probably 10 dollars in china? A macbook probably cost about 200-300 to manufacture An xbox cost 54.86 to make (not the slim ones) How much do they sell it for?

Don't bother with these people riding apple's dick, but to be honest either they charge you, and send you and extra. send you one for free and have your old one. or dont send you a new one at all because they know you kept your old one. Anyways today's economy is rough so whatever floats your boat:)

Really, that's the point? The point is how much does it cost to make? Apple Final Cut Pro costs less than $5, including the packaging. Lets all go "steal" one.. after all, it's only a $5, never mind the the $999 retail price. When you get caught, I'm sure the judge will say "Hey, it's only worth $5". It's an ugly slippery slope.

This is all pretty stupid. If you want to be a thief, be thief. You know that it is wrong. You know that it is stealing. However, if you want to do it, then do it. I resent anyone coming into a public forum and asking other people help them feel better about their poor character and misdeeds.

Being a thief is bad, being a gutless thief seems some how worse.

And if this means that people with character and morals are riding apple's dick, then I'm good with that. In the end, that statements says more about you than it does anyone else.

Thats software though, thats priced on labor I totally understand that price so dont even compare that. lets be realistic here these things are mass produced, dont have a serial number and isn't anything major if lost. He purchased it so it is rightfully his property, it's apple's fault if they send him a new one and plus thats the only way for apple to charge him. it's not apples anymore its his. apple cant just walk to your door and say "hi i see you have a magsafe give it back since its my company's"
