Thats software though, thats priced on labor I totally understand that price so dont even compare that. lets be realistic here these things are mass produced, dont have a serial number and isn't anything major if lost. He purchased it so it is rightfully his property, it's apple's fault if they send him a new one and plus thats the only way for apple to charge him. it's not apples anymore its his. apple cant just walk to your door and say "hi i see you have a magsafe give it back since its my company's"


Dude, you are rationalizing theft.

If he asks Apple if he can keep the power supply and they tell him it's OK, then he's clear. That's not what he wants to do though.

The bottom line is simple. If Apple expects the power supply returned, he is intentionally committing retail fraud if he keeps it with the hope that they don't notice, probably a misdemeanor. If you did that at a store you could be arrested and prosecuted. Legally, ethically and morally there is no difference.

Actually, there is one difference, I know that committing retail fraud using the postal service is a federal felony. I don't know how that works with UPS or FedEx. The law might extend to any carrier service and interstate commerce.

And with this, I'm done with this thread.

To the original poster: Clearly, you are going to keep the power supply. Enjoy.... Just keep that in mind the next time someone screws you out of something.

No, as a Brit I think you are showing a complete lack of moral fibre and I agree with the Americans 100%. Legally in this country you have no entitlement to "compensation" for good damaged in transit or even being faulty before being sent. You have an entitlement to have those goods replaced and nothing more. It's on your conscience if you decide to try and get away with theft.
 
Yep. If you want compensation, call and ask for it - or sue in small claims court, though you will have to prove the damages. If you just "help yourself" you are stealing.

And if you unilaterally decide that $79 is adequate compensation for your time, then I can guarantee that you will read on these forums that someone actually called Apple for compensation, and received more than the charge is worth. I can guarantee this because if I have to I will sign up as a new user and make up the story.... but I won't have to, Karma will arrange it for me. :D

Hey apple screwed up my order and pricing because of my student discount so not only did they give me the laptop cheaper than the should have, they didnt make me go through the hassle of sending a MIR for the ipod touch. I just called them and asked if i could skip the MIR and the agent put me on hold for a few minutes then said yes.

It really never hurts to ask. If its meant to be, then it will happen. A charger is whatever dude, shouldnt make or break your life

That's bragging, All the policies on most products are, send all you stuff as it came with the box and they will give you a new one, wanting to keep an extra charges as some kind of gift because of the problem is not nice, It's like asking for a business class upgrade on a plane instead of being nice and hoping to get one
