Ohio - GO BUCKEYES!
I am really disheartened with my new 13" MacBook Pro. The patch did help with the overheating, but internet speed, video streaming, and overall responsiveness is noticeably slow. This computer in a strange way, reminds me of my 2011 MacBook Air. Everyone tells me, "Get the 15" MBP." Why? I wanted the smaller size and this is categorized as a "PRO" machine. $2,500.00 is too much to be rocking such abysmal performance. My $200.00 Chromebook is faster downloading videos (ok, some slight exaggeration). I'm loyal to Apple, but my machine should be called the MacBook 13". Tomorrow, it goes back Apple and I'm so sadly disappointed.

Yes, perhaps you should try an exchange first. I have the base model 13", and I've been nearly completely satisfied with it. Sure, it gets hot when doing heavy lifting, but during normal use it barely gets warm... just watched a 45 minute symphony on YouTube, and it stayed cool.

It seems that most of the dissatisfied people don't know anything about how computers work. Mainly whining about things without facts or analytic approach.

Not had any problems with the 13” i5/16GB/512GB model thankfully :)

Guessing you’re using Chrome or Firefox?

Maybe you just got a lemon and should try another?
[doublepost=1532880555][/doublepost]I have tried Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. I truly hope that it just has a bad WIFI card.

Something feels very suspicious about this account.

I have been on Mac Rumors for a very long time! Please check my history. I've been very supportive of other people and have asked a lot of questions regarding the many products I've purchased. Look into my history or let a moderator aware of your concern(s). Thanks Jenny!

That is unfortunate it has not worked for you. I have been truly impressed with the 2018 MBP and I am looking forward to what Mojave is going to bring this fall!

As was mentioned, you should try and exchange it for a different one?

I'm happy that you're pleased with your computer. All the things I was apprehensive about (keyboard and Touch Bar) are FANTASTIC!

She's been here a long time.

Thank you Grinham! I truly rely on some of you "tech" experts for advice or just plain to listen to me.

No problem with mine so far. Everything feels snappier than my 2016 15” (except when I’m driving the 5K display on load)

Maybe you got a defective unit?

>internet speed, video streaming, and overall responsiveness is noticeably slow.

Even an iPhone or a 5 year old Mac wouldn't be like this.

If it is really how you described - I remember you said you got a 'virus' - Which I guess was a scam by malwares, I guess you should scan your computer by malwarebytes (the real thing) and Avast first.

Makes zero sense. These new MBPs have issues, but slow performance is not one of them! Something is wrong, and others have pointed to some possibilities (hardware issue, malware, etc.). I'd add that it could also be issues in your environment--maybe your WiFi router is acting up or your ISP is having problems. First thing I do when experiencing slow internet is check the connection speed using Speedtest.net. Besides the speed, look at latency ("ping" time reported in milliseconds--the lower the better) and how stable is the speed during the test--is the trace fairly flat or is it varying all over the map?

If the results are wonky, try rebooting the router (power off, wait 15 secs, power on). Additionally, you can check to see if you get similar results on another device.

Once you confirm that your internet connection is working as it should, then the focus turns back to your machine. Rather than waste hours troubleshooting, I'd just bring it in to a Genius and ask them to run diagnostics on the machine to rule out hardware issues. See if they can replicate the laggy performance in the store.

You bought a great machine...there is no reason it shouldn't work properly for you. Good luck!

I think we can safely assume this is not a troll - she is a long-time member of Mac Rumors and appears to genuinely have an issue with her new MacBook.

Harlowgold1: I'm curious, was your setup 'fresh' or did you transfer data across during the setup process? I have the same machine, with no issues (and I can be extremely fussy/pedantic). I only found my MacBook to get warm when I am using Chrome, which unfortunately is a requirement for logging in to a specific part of my university (otherwise I use Safari).

Did you end up exchanging it for another one? If so, has it resolved your issue?

Mine was getting some strange errors from the factory image ... crypto_val error messages and some strange instability issues (described here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8225237) ... never a kernel panic, but odd temporary hangs, slowness issues, etc.

I did a format and fresh install of High Sierra, ran migration wizard to restore my settings, installed the throttling patch, and all is well... note that it was still a little bit slow for an hour or two immediately following the restore, but it appears it was spotlight indexing causing this.

Couldn't be happier at this point, but hoping Apple doesn't expect all new MacBook Pro owners to have to format and re-install on a new machine...

Sounds like you have a faulty machine then. Apple should swap it out for you as that's clearly not normal.

The 2016+ MBPs should all feel very responsive thanks to their very fast components, SSD in particular.

Have you spoken to Apple? I want this same machine, and now I'm a bit leery of it.

This sounds like a faulty one-off machine, none of the reviews have mentioned issues like this, so I wouldn't be making buying decisions based on a thread.

I think there might be something wrong with your machine. I have the i7 MacBook Pro and currently have Photoshop, Word, Excel, iTunes, YouTube, Twitter, Discord, Slack, Trello and a game running and it's buttery smooth.

It seems nothing I can throw at this thing slows it down. You might have a problem.

You should return your machine and get another one. What you are telling seems like a problematic machine. Try a fresh install, if. Or, just take it back, get a new one and check with that. :)

Sorry to hear about that :(

Maybe try another model at the apple store, perhaps something is off with yours and you can try out one of the floor models?

Instead of accusing her of something that is not true, you could be helpful. By the way, she joined before you had in MR

A quick exchange should be considered. Units are not made equal and I suspect you got a lemon.

Also keep in mind, the first 48 hrs. can be stressing to the new system with Spotlight indexing and files settling in so the slowness you experience is temporary.
