I'll be happy when we get look around rolled out. I had the van drive past me when doing yard work a few years ago, hoping they blur my face because I looked horrible.

I've found Apple maps to be more accurate where I live. I live in an apartment complex where each unit has its own street address rather than stuff like 23A 23B etc. Google maps showed every address as being in the street by the clubhouse. Apple maps had each address show in the correct buildings.

Do map upgrades only show for those with iOS 13?

I've seen the Apple Maps van drive here though Philadelphia's Chinatown, just a couple months ago!

Well over billion, maybe two billion people are now in areas covered by Apple Maps Transit. Yes, it can be frustrating that it is taking longer than Google did, but Apple decided to avoid the issues that have plagued Google transit. Google decided simply to import all the generic data from the different systems, which obviously Apple could have done and simply turned it on everywhere quickly. Instead, like Look Around being much better than Street View, Apple decided it wanted its customers to have a much better experience. Thus, they are customizing each transit region in the world, which requires much more time and much more expense, e.g., sending teams to each region. Here's a great article that explains the very different approach than Google that Apple chose .

No, Apple has already done the UK, so you should be good to go in 2020.

So you are trying to compare google maps transit info in the beginning vs apple maps transit info now. Why not compare google maps transit info now vs apple maps transit info now?

Sadly, I have to rely on Google Maps. Apple Maps is so far behind when it comes to up-to-the-minute traffic conditions. When Apple Maps catches up, I’ll be happy to delete my last Google app.

I use Google Maps because it has Greenway bike routes in the NYC metropolitan area. Apple Maps doesn't offer anything like that. I'm only saying that Apple is always yapping about saving the ecology but yet they don't even have bike paths for a full-time bike-riding guy like me. Google Maps keeps those bike routes pretty much up-to-date, at least the ones that I use. I really enjoy looking at all the available bike routes that Google Maps has. I also enjoy Google Street View for finding places I might be interested in seeing in person. I can also use Street View to see how wide streets are and if I can negotiate certain streets that don't have bike lanes. I'll really be happy when Apple offers something similar.

Looks like you might get one of your wishes soon enough. Look Around seems ideal for previewing locations.

Is this only for fall-release beta versions of iOS and macOS? Because I’m not seeing these updates yet and the article does not state you need to be using a beta.

I'll like to know this too as I haven't seen the updated maps on my iPhone running 12.4.

The northeast maps only became available last night on a limited basis similar to how the other were released. You may not see it for another 4-6 weeks depending on when Apple decides to do a widespread release.

I live in a newer development. Apple maps directs people exactly to my house. Google maps leaves them a mile away. When people get lost, I tell them they need an iPhone and Apple Maps. Then, I laugh at them.

Have you asked Google to correct? I may prefer to use Apple Maps, but I submit corrections to Apple, Google and Waze whenever I see them.

On July 8th,

I observed them mapped the North Shore of Boston. Lynnfield to be exact.

I’m there with you. I wish apple would have bought Waze years back before google did. Living in a dense metro, I rely on it when traffic gets heavy to safe me time.

I long for the day I’m truly done with google. It’s close!

A friend of mine had the Texas updates show up on his iPhone SE running 12.3. After that, he updated to 12.4 and still had the new map. About a week later, the new map started showing on my iPhone 8 running 12.4. I'm guessing it's a phased rollout, so it just might require some patience.

I just saw what I think was an Apple Maps van in Toronto! I only saw it briefly as I turned the corner on College and Spadina. It was a white van with an array of instruments on the roof. I didn’t see a logo but I’m pretty confident that it was what we’ve seen of Apple Maps vans.

Apple is constantly updating Toronto’s 3D Flyover. It’s the city with the most construction cranes in all of North America so it needs regular updates as buildings are completed. It only makes sense to add the van to map the ground. Fingers crossed that Toronto gains the new maps and Look Around this year with the US.

EDIT: just searched and found that others have sighted it as far back as May. Looks like Toronto will in fact be a part of the first cities available with the launch of iOS 13.

didn't they try to? but waze didn't want to abandon android? if i remember correctly it was between google and facebook (shudder). honestly google has been a pretty good steward of the waze tech and brand.

i got the new apple maps here in texas and used them over the weekend. sure they're pretty to look at, but without the speedometer (actual speed vs posted speed), and all the alerts offered by waze, it's just not enough for my needs.

Not looking likely that Canada will be included, as only the US was promised for this year. However, it seems almost certain it will get Look Around and everything else next year, along with about 9 other countries (so far).

Here’s what Apple has revealed online about Canada: https://mwp14.ls.apple.com/imagecollection/ca

Can’t say for sure, but it’s probable that these countries will have Look Around next year (after the US gets it later this year): Canada, Portugal, Spain, Germany, China, Italy, the UK, Ireland, Puerto Rico and San Marino.
From Apple’s website:
https://mwp14.ls.apple.com/imagecollection/

Go to San Francisco (and other parts of California) on Apple Maps right now on any device running iOS 13 / iPad OS and you can see how good Look Around is. It’s really impressive.
Oh okay. I'm not planning to update to iOS 13 so I suppose I'm out of the loop.

There’s a technicality: Apple only promised that the US would be all done by the end of the year. They didn’t promise that other countries wouldn’t come too. They’re adding them as they’re adding them.

Apple has been mapping Toronto from at least May and the mapping will end in November. Sounds a lot like Maps will be added to Toronto before the end of the year.

I’ve use Apple Maps for over half a decade now. It turned out to be a good product after the initial botched rollout. So Apple how about bringing back Scott Forstall? Apple needs more guys like him. He may be hard to work with but he was instrumental in iOS’s development and success.

Most complaints come from people being used to seeing the "green" lines and feel better believing there is no traffic there versus Apple's choice to only show traffic, not the lack of it. Google also chooses to show traffic at nearly every traffic light. It's a UI choice, not a true representation of traffic at all times.
You know - I always wondered why Google Maps showed so much traffic data when Apple Maps' are more passive. Nice explanation. That said, I think what's weird about all the mapping services is that none really have come out and said "We're so much better than x. NOONE should use x." Except for maybe Eric Schmidt in the early goings of Apple Maps. Mapping services have come a long way to the point where we might be choosing based on look and feel or interface alone - which is a good thing.
