Australian-based company Kuxiu has come out with a new version of its 3-in-1 charging station that has got to be one of the neatest Apple device charging solutions for home and travel that I've had the pleasure of using.

kuxiu-charging-stand-qi2.jpg

The Kuxiu X40Q features a tri-fold design, allowing it to be folded into a small square for easy portability. When unfolded, it serves as a stable magnetic iPhone stand and wirelessly charges an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods simultaneously.

The big difference from Kuxiu's previous model is that the X40Q uses Qi2 wireless charging technology that supports magnetic connections and up to 15 watts of charging power, just like Apple's MagSafe standard. In that sense, it provides 15W charging for iPhone, 5W for Apple Watch, and 5W for AirPods.

kuxiu-case-open.jpg

The overall package includes the 3-in-1 charging station, a 30W charging adapter (with a UK plug in my case – Kuxiu lived up to its stated claim to ship the right adapter for your country), a 3-foot long USB-C charging cable, and a carrying pouch.

At about six inches long and three inches in width, the carry case is hard and nicely compact for stowing in your luggage, and it also boasts an attractive svelte texture and a neat tri-color elastic band for attaching anything to the outside, like a passport, extra cable, or even an iPhone.

kuxiu-case-closed.jpg

It's plenty big enough to hold the folded stand, cable, and charger, plus there's an internal attachment band as well as a netted pocket for anything else small enough to fit inside, like your AirPods, for example, or spare Apple Watch bands.

The charging stand I received was gray, but it's also available in titanium gold, black, and wood grain. All of them are made from a smooth anodized CNC-machined aluminum alloy, and the Qi2 magnet still works in folded mode if you're just charging your iPhone on the square puck.

kuxiu-flat-stand.jpg

When unfolding it, you can also feel the hinges are strong and durable enough to ensure longevity, and at full extension there's a definite sense that the design has got the center of gravity and rigidity just right to take the weight of three devices.

kuxiu-tri-fold.jpg

In the unfolded position, the watch magnet pops out to form a base for placing your watch on the back without having to take off the band, and the magnets are strong enough to hold your iPhone in place, even with a MagSafe-compatible case on, in my experience. You can also adjust the angle of the iPhone section for a more stable affordance, or to get your view of your iPhone's Standby mode just right.

kuxiu-loaded.jpg

When connected to power with your iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch, the LED indicator on the back of the X40Q lights up for five seconds when charging begins, and then it turns off, so it doesn't get distracting in low light when you're trying to get to sleep. I found it could charge my dead iPhone up to 50% in around 30 minutes, which is what you'd expect from Qi2 at the maximum 15W. I was also really impressed with the lack of heat generated when charging all three devices simultaneously.

KUXIU-X40Q-QI2-15W-3-In-1-Foldable-Magnetic-Wireless-Charging-Station.jpeg

Currently costing $79.99 (usually $99.99) directly from the Kuxiu website, I'd say the price right now is pretty unbeatable, especially if you compare it to something like Belkin's BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 Qi2 charging stand, which costs $129 and is much less portable.

Whether you're looking for an all-in-one Qi2 charger for your desktop, bedside table, or when you're on the road, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better solution for keeping your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods charged when not in use.

Note: Kuxiu provided MacRumors with a X40Q Qi2 3-in-1 Foldable Charging Station for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received.

I have one of these new models and a couple of their older ones. I highly recommend them for travel chargers. In case anyone is wondering, the lenses on a 15 Pro Max don't block the iPhone from rotating on this due to the round pad part being slightly extended.

I'd also recommend this for use as a desk/nightstand charger if space is limited.

However, there are better desktop stands if you have the space (see Belkin 3-n-1).

I have a similar charger (X55) from the same manufacturer with the same folding design that I got off Amazon for about $45. I use it for traveling and I love it.

does the airpods spot have a magnet? best part about using an AW charger for airpods is that they easily align, probably the worst part about the otherwise good Belkin 3 in 1

This does fast charge Apple Watch! I recommend the previous version without Qi2, called the x40. It also does fast charging of both phone and watch (the Qi2 is only really needed for non-Apple phones), it's cheaper and IMO it looks better. I have one and couldn't be happier with it.

Over the years I've gotten accustomed to using only trusted brands for charging, in order to preserve battery life. Anyone heard of these guys?

I ordered something like this from this same company. The unit that they sent me was garbage and not functional. It wouldn't fully charge my Apple devices. They wouldn't reimburse me the cost of the unit either. I ended up having to have my credit card company fight the charge and get reimbursed accordingly.

This doesn't look half bad, and I might consider it when it hits Amazon (for their return policy). But I ended up using a gift card from Apple's Back to School promotion and bought Twelve South's butterfly 2-in-1. It's ridiculously overpriced, but it's got fast charging for the iPhone and Apple Watch, with a magnet on the watch charger that makes it a breeze to charge my APP2. It's got a 30W charging brick plus international travel plugs, which I plan on using on my upcoming trip to Switzerland. We travel internationally at least once a year, so this is a nice perk. And I can use USB-C cord to charge my other devices. (The only reason I haven't bought a pair of AP Max is the lightning cable.)

I got this charger and love it! It works exactly as advertised. Except mine came with a boring dark gray case instead of the light gray one shown in this review. Also, the case doesn't have that elastic band on the outside. I wish they would've provided the other case.

How can you tell if a watch charger is a fast charger? What is the slow and the fast wattage to the watch?

At 5w it won't give the newer watches fast charging.
For me the Belkin Boost Charge Pro 2 in 1 is the perfect solution, both at home and traveling, although it's 2 in 1, it can also charge your AirPods on the phone charger, I've had it for 8 months, for me it's perfect (actually got 2)

The design is great. I guess the only miss is the Apple Watch slow charge. I wear my watch all day and all night and charge it when I'm getting ready in the morning. This wouldn't be possible without fast charging.
Belkin Boost Charge Pro 2in 1 is perfect for that, you can also charge your AirPods on the phone charger

The text on the side of the box being mirrored (in the last photo) is also a bit concerning! Could they at least try to create a realistic photo?

I thought AW fast charging requires 5W at a minimum delivery, which this has. Am I mistaken about that?
Many people make the same mistake, the standard charger for the watch is 5 watts, fast one is 18 watts, Belkin Boost Charge Pro 2-1 has that.

That's simply not true, the watch requires 18 watts for fast charging!

Wish more were designed like this. Very ergonomic & practical.

I don’t have a watch, so would prefer a 2 in 1 device, but I’m still tempted to get this.

But I wonder what the difference is between this model & the below

They both seem to be 15W for iPhone?

Edit…Ahh the cheaper one has the cable poking out the side, which isn’t great when you want it to be discrete on the kitchen counter. I’ll weigh it up.

I wish there were more 2-in-1 options for travel. I imagine these could be a third smaller.

I don't need a dedicated pad for the AirPods. The Pros can charge on either MagSafe or the watch charger, and I usually charge them before even taking off my watch.
This Belkin is great for both home and traveling

It hasn't got Apple Watch fast Charging, the watch charger is only 5 watts, fast charging requires 18 watts
