Oh okay. When I think of iPhones with color options I think iPhone 5C. It was supposed to be a fun and affordable phone but I don’t think it did well.

Yeah that was a complete fail

The iPhone 5C did really well from what I remember. It was everywhere. Teenagers loved it and it seemed to be the company phone of choice back then because it was fairly cheap. I still have one I used as a work phone somewhere.

My 14 Pro Max arrives in approximately 12 hours and even I think Pixel 6 beats iPhone 14 Pro in many core areas for still photography. Nobody has taken DxOMark seriously for years now, not even the Apple news sites bother posting DxOMark score releases anymore. Like nemo said why do you need an ""authority"" like DxOMark to tell you what to think? Objective scoring for cameras? That's ridiculous, it all comes down to the way images actually look. The 48MP is seemingly doing nothing for regular 12MP HEIC capture. Photonic Engine is the biggest marketing bluff in iPhone history because it seemingly does next to nothing to improve white balance, colors, dynamic range, or low light performance. 14 Pro images look practically identical to 13 Pro images based on what we've seen so far. Again I emphasize how little Apple have bothered to improve color depth and reproduction vs. Pixel.

Last year's Pixel 6 Pro keeps thrashing the 14 Pro in many examples. Look at these photos and tell me which one you honestly prefer:

All the reviews say different. Including the one you provided. The above photo is hard to judge since we don’t know which one is which. And the fact that they are two different photos when Lighting is concerned. But judging the two photos the bottom one has more detail. Look at the black grates in the background. You can see the lines in the grates, not so much on the pixel.

Why would you do a picture comparison like that? lighting would be different, angle slightly different its silly. It should be the same shot from the same distance as close to the original as possible.

The 5C performed far below expectations. The problem was, it was too recognizable as a "cheap" phone. With most of the recent iPhones looking the same, the average person can't tell the difference unless they're a MacRumors reader or the like. The 5C was recognizably plastic, and therefore cheap-looking, so people opted for older phones or the latest gen iPhone at the time. I only knew one person with a 5C, but significantly more with standard iPhones. If it had done well, Apple would have kept making plastic phones, but it was a one-off.

I don't want to use a Pixel, I want to use an iPhone for a myriad of reasons. The Pixel 6 isn't a good phone, Tensor sucks. I want my iPhone to be better and correct some of the basic camera software issues that have plagued it for years, some of which Google have corrected years ago on devices like Pixel 2.

The "I'm buying an iPhone but I hate it" thing is (at least in part) customers that want their selected products to be better. In a 'free' market asking for a product line to improve is just as valid as switching to a different product.
have you tried the pixel 6 to say it sucks? android 13 on pixel 6 seems to be very good. I know many want to compare cameras with all phones but people don't base what phone they buy off the camera only.

Has anyone seen the Wired review? They gave it a 7/10. From the review:
I've snapped more than 250 photos with four phones over the past few days, and last year's iPhone 13 Pro occasionally bested the brand-new model. Even where the iPhone 14 Pro came out on top, the improvements were so marginal that I'm left wondering if Apple just overhyped its product.

So... buy a Pixel. Good phones. I don't get the "I'm buying an iphone but I hate it" thing.
It’s more a “I want an iOS phone with a great camera” thing. Where “great” means natural colors and not an ML oil painting/over-sharpening.

Nothings is for free, it is not magical. You're only paying your phone in your monthly plan that is all...
In France we have the choice to pay the phone ourselves, with cheap plans (roughly 10 euros per month) or pay the phone in our plan (around 50 to 60 euros per month). In the USA you just don't have that choice.
I mean, it depends. I just sold my 13pm for $830. My 14pm cost me $1157. I used cash back rewards from our credit cards to cover the rest. So I’m out almost nothing out of pocket, apart from the $70 I spent on cases and screen protectors. I can do this again next year, and so on. I never finance or subsidize my phones, I always buy outright from Apple. I’ve done it before and I’ll lilely do it again. The times where I’m actually spending a few hundred for a new iPhone are those years where I pass my current device on to my mother or my husband.

I'm an Apple fanboy for sure but this is the first time I've ever not been at least a little psyched for an iPhone released. I checked it out tonight at an AT&T store(didn't go out of my way it was just next to a restaurant that I was at) and I was just like meh. The dynamic island just doesn't do it for me and the always on display is just too much for me. I'd turn it off right way and my buddy who was with me who has an iPhone 7 said the same thing. It looks like it's on all the time and that would bug the **** out me tbh.

I wonder how long it’s going to take before people start complaining about burn in.

I don’t remember any complaints that it was ‘cheap’ looking, I thought the appeal was because it was cheap to be honest. The modern day versions is the SE models and personally I saw the 5C everywhere and used one myself as a work phone. Maybe it was more popular in different countries than others.

The 5C was essentially Apple’s first stab at an iPhone SE, and also allowed Apple to add full 4G support, making it a better option than simply keeping the old iPhone 5 around after the 5S launched. As far as I know it sold well in that same bracket that, previously, “last year’s iphone” would always have occupied.

I think it was just misunderstood by a lot of tech reviewers who decided that Apple expected blockbuster flagship sales, and then assumed Apple had been disappointed. Made a good story at the time.

That’s what smart people do. The majority though do the 36 month deal with carrier, pay full price (lol) and lose their discounts and always get stuck on payments.

Lol @ all the haters in comments section. I jumped from 11 Pro to the 14 Pro and I absolutely love it. The 14 Pro has an entirely different feel. Is it revolutionary? Not quite. However, it is the most refined and sophisticated iPhone to date. The iPhone is slowly evolving still. You don’t need to buy a new iPhone every year. Just adopt a 3 year cycle and you end up much happier imo. The only downside I’ve noticed is the weight and slightly bigger measurements. The size I can get used to and the heavy weight is kinda bothersome while using it stationary. OTOH, when I’m walking the weight of the iPhone presses it more into my hands thus making it less likely to accidentally drop it on the floor. Anyway I’m a happy camper and I think the 14 Pro is an impressive piece of engineering feat!
