Reviews are out for the Macbook Pro with Touch Bar

Funny, I did exactly this tonight. I simply decided, that at least for now, given the battery issues and the lack of development for the touch bar (at the moment), I would go with the 13" non-touch bar base model. Ordered it 30 mins ago. Will be here in 2 days. Im coming from a mid-2012 15" rMBP, so I wonder if I will feel constrained or relieved to not have to carry that weight around on travels. I'll use the non-TB for six months and if I love it....GREAT / DONE. And if I don't love it, or find it's underpowered for my use, I'll give it to my daughter who is in high school. She is still on a 2011 MBA, so that will be quite a jump for her. I imagine that by this coming summer, Apple should have worked out some of the bumps on the 13" touch bar version and perhaps even release the next version...then Ill get that one.

They better reduce the price next year too.

Don't get your hopes up there, especially Tim Cook's Apple. In hindsight, the iPad Pro 9.7" pricing was Apple's new pricing model, not just a one off for that model -- higher price makes up profit lost from lower volume sales. What we are witnessing is, indeed, the Burberry-ization of Apple.

In the Job's era Apple products were expensive but justifyable because they were that much better than the competition, unique and a complete package. In the Cook + Ahrendts era Apple products have been stripped bare and priced as-if they were exclusive like a 1980s-era B&O CD player. So expect more products to be ridiculously priced for the level of power and utility they offer.

So, I think I am going to cancel my order, what's the best alternative? Looking to spend around $2000

There is always last year's model. Similar power, no USB-C/TB3, but full array of current ports. Microcenter has some good deals this month for new old models. Then there are Apple refurbs which are almost good-as-new but no shiny box.

The retina screen still seems to be one of the reasons for higher prices across their range though and that's not going anywhere so I wouldn't have thought there will be any significant price drops any time soon. Especially when they've just been putting prices up in Europe for example.

They will stick to their guns with the pricing, otherwise it will just get really messy for them.

Walt Mossberg's review is up and seems pretty much in line with all the others and asks the same questions of Apple.

I don't understand all the hate. Other than it begin the "norm" these days. People seem to constantly complain and begin really negative towards pretty much every thing on the Internet these days.

It's not like I find these new MacBook Pro's to be perfect. But seriously... People behave almost like Timothy Cook invaded their personal space or molested their son or something... Have people lost all concepts of perspective and logical sense on online forums these days?

I think people were all in a rage when they were first announced b.c they thought they were going to be slower than their 2015 counterparts. Unless you are a USB machine, It seems like an upgrade in every single way.

Welcome to the internet in 2016. To be fair, the whole outrage over the latest tech/movie trailer/tv programme being declared THE WORST THING EVAH isn't a new phenomenon, but it is getting extremely tiresome and more difficult than ever to avoid due to the amount of it you often have to wade through to get to some reasonable discussion.

Just feels like I am making too many compromises. I absolutely believe that USB-C is the future but today none of my devices are using USB-C. The keyboard is another compromise, I liked the old keyboard and the new keyboard feels like a pseudokeyboard type thing like Surface Pro type covers. Battery life seems to be fine in Ars review but then there's other reviews that say otherwise. Touchbar is basically a gimmick, every review i have seen/read has said that. If anything I'll just grab the 2015 model and wait for a revamp but these are pretty disappointing machines.

Woah. Taking it to far. I just got my new Touchbar MacBook. To compare it to the SurfacePro type cover (which I also own) is laughable.

Agreed. I like it better than the other video reviews I have seen so far.

That was hilarious, very well done!

seems the Pro users are the ones who are the most disappointed in the overall with the new ones. I do think though that Apple is taking a BIG risk with not making Mac OS touchable. I personally own one of the Windows 2 in 1s and I can see the value people see in the touchscreen part of them. I personally don't have a need to do so, but having the flexibility there is neat. From a market perspective this may be Cook driving Apple right into a iceberg, because seriously I don't like Tablets and being forced to use iOS. Hope their gamble on TB is a good one, because I love Apple laptops and Mac OS and never want to see it go away.

Depends on what you're looking to do. This isn't really the thread to be asking such things.

Every thread is good to show you don't like the new MBP, how else you gonna get atenttion? They need to show us how awful is the new MBP ;)

Yeah, nice! And genuinely funny!

Very nice video, thanks!

However, correct me if i'm wrong, but you don't need dongles for most things. What you need is cables with one side USB-C , for about $9. They make them for all the USB varieties.

Dongles suck, but the only dongle I have is the Thunderbolt. SD card is another story.
