In the absence of a discrete location for service vs. sales (which I'm sure was 100% intentional) Apple Stores are a confusing mess these days, and I try to avoid them at all costs and deal with everything online.

Humans not required. You can pay for accessories in-store with Apple Store app and Apple Pay on your phone. (I've done it, but it has been a while. I assume they still do this.)

I've never had an employee available to finish the purchase. It was always a 3-15 minute process to get someone who was available to make the purchase. It has made it so I don't go to the Apple store to buy things because its always been complicated no matter which store I go to.

This is neat. There are some textures on the devices that could have been improved but who am I to complain about this when it’s such a nice nostalgia trip and free?
I wasn’t even an Apple user back then but the look of macOS back then was something that everyone I knew was trying to replicate in Windows XP. I miss those days 😢😔

Nope. Just want to go to a store and buy something. Doing that from 2012-2021 was difficult each time I did it (probably off on the year they took out the registers). I used to go fairly often but when I ran into issues buying things because all the associates were working with children trying to play games on ipads I stopped going.

This is so neat. I worked Apple retail for 6 years during/after college, splitting my time between a full sized store (like Stanford, and same era) and a mini. Really brings back fond memories. Some of my best friends I still have today I met while working at Apple.
Sometimes when my day job gets too stressful I think "**** it maybe I'll go back to slinging iPhones." This is such a great hit of nostalgia for me.

I never got to attend a store opening, too young. I remembered going to the Apple store and using the kids table with games loaded up on Macs, the old black fabric ball chairs that were squishy..
Not sure I'm a fan of the editorial slant in the headline. Is it news? Is it an opinion piece? Both?

Deirdre had nothing to do with it so I don't know why you're bringing her up.Are we just looking for reasons to bash him at this point? He helped to turn Apple into a $3 trillion juggernaut. That’s an astounding accomplishment in itself. 🤷♂️
Heck, Apple’s retail presence is doing better than ever now, so whatever “bad” changes they made must’ve been a good thing in the long run.
You might want to complain about this woman instead. Tim Cook is just one the one who chose to green light her ideas. I guess we can’t go one news thread without somebody yelling about their own cynical agendas… 😵

AA tried turning the Apple Stores into defacto Burberry Stores and failed miserably. She had zero clue what made them so beloved and special places to gather and get Apple gear and Tim "I Don't Like Confrontation" Cook let her.
She should never have been employed with Apple much less put in charge of retail.

Angela made sense with their "post pc" and "lets sell smartwatches as high fashion" initiatives. Both of which failed miserably. I'm not convinced they were particularly Angela's fault, so much as it was dumb marketing and product direction coming from elsewhere in the company.
But even before that, it seemed like the first round of damage was done by that British guy they had in the retail leadership role for a few months.

It's weird seeing the Fifth Ave store not being jam packed with people.
Is the Infinite Loop a certain place or just a redesign of some stores? Cause the store next to the World Trade building looks exactly the same.

I haven’t been in an Apple Store in quite a while but if I was there to purchase an accessory I just paid for it using the Apple Store app on my phone. If I was buying an iPhone or iPad in store I had an appointment so the checkout process was with whomever my appointment was with.
