Also any opinion on which is the best software among superduper, carbon copy or the native apple feature....Isn't the native apple feature a bit buggy and slow?

No idea, I recommend a clean install of Mac OS. Don't forget to enable TRIM to keep your SSD happy.

Sure buddy..I'm still trying to figure out what trim is and how to enable it but I've read on many places that it helps..so I'll surely do that...

Btw, I'm going to try repairing the bent corner of MacBook this weekend..will post pics after repair ☺️

You guys are super duper awesome... I have started to feel good about my MacBook now...so many of you r doing such gr8 things with your Macs...amazing

I will recommend that you get a keyboard cover to prolong the investment. I have kept my 2011 going for awhile now. Upgraded memory, SSD, replaced battery, replaced MagSafe DC in, and am on my third charger (all for free from Apple....just this one time :) ).

However now my "I", and "O" key work sporadically or not at all and replacing the top cover/keyboard is a big deal and seems can only be done with a used/refurbed part. I think I am calling it quits on this old girl as I am not looking forward to spending a couple hundred bucks on a used keyboard and trying to remove/replace every internal component without breaking something else...

What are you doing to your MBP? Mine is older than yours and lived a hard life as a student's notebook without any of your issues.

Also, a new keyboard is $25 and changing it isn't difficult if you follow the iFixit instructions.

A keyboard cover ruins the tactile feedback of the keys IMO.

That's exactly my point...I love the tactile feedback of these old MBPs which the newer ones seem to be missing...I still haven't found a keyboard cover that doesn't take away the feedback...

The link of the spare keyboard you shared doesn't allow the backlit light to pass through..It's opaque :(

You can get used OEM keyboards on eBay and other places if you don't trust aftermarket. I haven't seen them go for more than $30.

Sure..Also have you tried replacing your speakers? My speakers are totally useless...Any suggestion?

What happened to your speakers? They are connected by two cables, but the left one is a pain. A hardware or connection issue is highly improbable.

Speakers won't work if the system thinks headphones are connected. This can be checked in Mac OS.

The overall voice has reduced subsequently over the years. For the initial 3-4 years I never used external speakers and watched movies/music only using the speakers. Now the speaker is like 60% of original volume and also at high volumes it starts getting rough, hence I have to use bluetooth speakers. But it's a pain to carry bluetooth everywhere...Should I attempt a replacement? I haven't replaced my optical drive yet hence I have to anyways open my MBP again...
[doublepost=1492274881][/doublepost]Found these two listings of speakers:

Is there any risk involved? I have never opened my logic board before...

Speaker is the last thing to be fixed in my MacBook...But I'm scared of damaging any cable...I'm an engineer btw, confident but still scared...Any opinion on these eBay parts? I have put links above...

LOL, I wouldn't call a students notebook a hard life. I am a farmer and regularly use my laptop with dirty hands...eat while using it etc..

In any case I am glad I posted this. I was going by the iFixit guide which said you needed to replace the entire upper case assembly with the keyboard built in. If that's not the case and I can replace just the KB for $30 I may just do it...off to eBay now. Thanks!

Wow! That's some serious abuse of your MacBook...Good to know your MacBook is still alive. Let us know how your keyboard upgrade goes. I may need that too sometime in future...

I understand..Actually I need for college purpose and every-time I have to carry bluetooth speaker along. It's just $25. I have already placed an order. My idea is to follow the ifixit guide step by step and I will stop if I find I can't get any socket out as explained or if I experience anything weird...I know there's a risk. As a backup I have gotten in touch with my local repair guy so if I screw up something I'll take it to him. Still worth a shot I guess. Let's see :)

I wouldn't attribute it all to abuse. The MagSafe on this is a flawed design. Pins would stick, arcing occur and burn't out the DC-in. Apple didn't replace three chargers out of kindness. They know the pins stick and cause issues.

Batteries don't last forever.

Yes, Keyboard failure is likely my fault. I am just glad this one can be kept alive by me unlike the current generation of Pro's.

"I love the tactile feedback of these old MBPs" :apple: Same :)

The link provided of the page, if you scroll down, there seem to be keyboards with backlight (some even cheaper!)

Good Luck.

Thanks for your response..btw for now I decided to let go of replacing my speakers as I worry I may screw up. Can't put hundreds on dollars on repair in case I screw up.

@MBP_187
True..I found many of eBay as well. But replacing keyboard is really tough. You literally need to dissemble the whole laptop. May be I'll try to clean my keyboard regularly and try stretch it to the life of my MBP itself. Any good suggestion to clean the dirt that traps between the keys? Also have you ever tried removing the top cap of keys and cleaning them?

I don't agree with this. I've plugged and unplugged my MacBook Pro almost every day for the past 7 years and it still works fine.

@Apples555
I agree but I did damage a few chargers in last 6+ years. I have bought like 2-3 chargers since then. But it's mostly related to the poor earthing in the regions where I've stayed over the years...

Sorry, I have never tried to remove the top cap of the keys. I just try clean regularly with a soft damp cloth.

I think they fail if you don't remove the plug for a long time. Then the pins get stuck. Which I suppose is a design flaw, but is still better than the alternative.

The MagSafe has saved me so many times.
