We should get the hell out of there and build a plant here in the USA.

Exactly, that back black plate should be made here in the US and then shipped back to China to be added to the other 200+ parts that make up the iPhone so that it can be assembled.

The electronic manufacturing ship sailed long ago. Apple, as large as it is, is just a drop in the bucket compared to total electronic manufacturing demand that is satisfied out of China and which supports China manufacturing.

yeeaahhhhh, it's just that we're putting new cover sheets on all TPS reports before they go out. Did you see the memo? If you could just try to remember to do that from now on that would be greaate. Now, I'll see that you get another copy of that memo...

Quote from HiVolt:
"You're deluded or something... Apple "went out of their way" because the stories of Foxconn's employees making Apple's iToys were jumping out of windows committing suicide...

It's bad PR... You think Apple paid FoxConn more so they money went to the workers? Get real... They're like walmart, squeezing every last cent from their suppliers if they want to keep their business.

Yes, dozens of hi tech companies use Foxconn and other manufacturing partners in China... But only Apple is wildly successful and with that comes being in the spotlight all the time, from all angles, good and bad. Nobody cars that Dell/HP use the same factories. Apple's products are the cream of the crop and they are making billions for themselves and their shareholders off the backs of the poor opressed in China. There's no other way to spin it. "

Easy there! I agree with you for the most part. It was mostly a PR move on Apple's part. Like I said I don't think Apple is a saint. However, I have to give it to Apple for doing something. Apple's PR could have just said that it is Foxconn's problem and not Apple's, and pointed the finger to other huge companies that use Foxconn as a supplier as well. That's another way to spin it! People who blame Apple for Foxconn's problems and not include the other companies that also use Foxconn are deluded.

EDIT: Or rather people who blame other companies for Foxconn's problems are deluded.

You can only strip people of their dignity and human rights for so long...then they snap. Apple makes stuff in China ONLY because they know the oppressive regime there will supress unions and make people work like robots with absolutely no human rights to rebel against the system. People in the USA and Europe want their toys to be as cheap as possible....and Apple want to make as much profit as possible...so Chinese slave workers under the iron fist of the Chinese state machinery is perfect. As long as we put the mighty $$$$$ as our God, this will continue to get worse... just to make everyone happy - except the factory workers.....AND IT STINKS !!!

Apple stock dropped $14 cause of the riots.

It's hard to tell why it dropped. It's probably a combination of the factors: the riots, the low first weekend sale numbers and also some analyst comments. For example, Doug Kaas had this to say about AAPL:

"Quality vs. price: Apple is now selling less or equal for more money." Kass argues that competitors have caught up with Apple in terms of technology. As such, they are now only offering a similar or worse product at a premium price. Kass doesn't think this is sustainable.

Apple bring back production to the USA you bastards !

if you are willing to pay at least triple for the iPhone. actually who am I kidding, what about 10 times more....:D

Sorry, but Made in USA just work for few products. Most will always go to countries like China because Americans want to pay Walmart prices.

Apple does need to diversify it's production as much as possible to avoid these issues but they are already starting to do that. I second the fact that I would love to see an Apple factory in the US, we have plenty of people unemployed to this day. They certainly have the cash which they don't even know what to do with so much, lets invest it where it belongs in the US!

From Reuters:

"Foxconn said in a statement the incident escalated from what it called a personal dispute between several employees at around 11 p.m. on Sunday in the privately-managed dormitory, and was brought under control by police at around 3 a.m.

"The cause of this dispute is under investigation by local authorities and we are working closely with them in this process, but it appears not to have been work-related," Foxconn said. Hon Hai said about 2,000 workers were involved."

I know on the internet you can post your thoughts without having all the information, but just because you can doesn't mean you should. I'm not even saying that the above statement is accurate, but before everyone lynches Apple or Foxconn to the nearest tree, you might want to wait for more data.

The're all like...

I bet it would cost 20% more to make it in the US or Mexico. Most of it should be automated now by robots anyways.

Foxconn riot related to i5 scuffs?

Could this be related to the quality of the iPhone 5 people have been experiencing?

Was there a fallout for not having the quality control expected?

+1 for bringing back production to the USA. Nothing is made here anymore...all we do is consume, which contributes as one of the many factors to our growing debt!

Good luck finding people who want to do that work. There is already plenty of crap work out there for people if they want it. We don't have a shortage of minimum wage jobs. Trust me, the average American would go insane with the monotony of the kinds of jobs they do in these factories. We would have to pay people huge amounts of money to take these jobs because they totally suck.

Bottom line is that there's always someone out there to work for less.

Bottom line: The West will use cheap labour in Asia while ignoring the huge trade imbalance that will eventually bankrupt us.
American companies seem determined to milk the desperation of the workers to line their pockets while the U.S. economy dies through a lack of investment and productivity. No output = no prosperity. All so you can play with cheaper shinies.....This really can't go on much longer.
Meanwhile the Communist establishment keep the low wage slave labour in line to suck the capital out of capitalism.
"The beatings will continue until morale improves."

Bunch of ingrates... After Apple improved working conditions for them... UGH! SHUT DOWN FOXCONN and bring the operation Stateside!!

It is probably time to move the production back to the US.
Not only would it help the economy, but also help solve some of the ridiculously high unemployment rate.

I agree. But that being said - if these workers live in Foxconn dorms, eat at Foxconn, spend the majority of the days/nights at Foxconn - then it's highly likely that even if it wasn't a "work" incident - it was work "related." It would be almost impossible to not be work related. Whether it's due to long hours, stress, anger, etc - it's a fair assumption by most that it wasn't "random" or completely unrelated to work.
