You guys are demonstrating one reason that Americans are perceived as selfish & stupid by people who live in other countries. Sheesh.

I do agree that a certain few posters have posted horribly selfish comments, but I also don't put too much stock in what people in other countries have to say about us. To each their own, I suppose.

personally this is what happens when we let American companies send assembly of US products overseas. I thought this was because they are now working like 16-18 hours per day per employee with little to no more money.

It is a shame we let this happen years ago when Dell started sending jobs and support calls to India or where ever they went.

The US Government needs to tax companies who use overseas assembly lines and send jobs over there just to keep labor costs low, there is no other reason that Apple is doing this than to keep more money in their pockets and the folks in charge over in China.

Just hope the innocent people over there do not get hurt...

Yes. Do all that, and then bitch about how your iPhones are so damn expensive afterwards.

Please.

I never said I was a saint. In fact, I'm norwegian. That means that I could do no work at all, and my government would still give me more money than an average american income.

Still, there's no need to reduce poverty and _very poor_ work conditions to a laughing matter.

An issue I have is that we in the West impose our standards of living when judging companies overseas. China for the most part is a rich, industrialized country of 50 million or so attached to a dirt poor mostly agrarian country of about 1.3 billion. Foxconn wages appear low by our standards but the alternative for many of the workers is to work even longer hours in worse conditions for less money in the fields. They are not in a very different position from what parts of the US and Western Europe were during the Industrial Revolution.

Living conditions are gradually improving in China, but the process won't be overnight. To his credit, Tim Cook seems to be doing more to help the process than Steve Jobs did as CEO.

Anyone even read the article? I guard hit an employee, THAT is what caused the riot. How is everyone who has commented has not mentioned that?

why are chinese people so noisy lately.

You can't keep 1 billion people quiet for too long. When you work in a place where you can't even afford the phone you make, you are likely to have problems. Guard towers. Wow. Sounds more like a labor camp.

well that's really their government's problem. So much for being communist; the wealthy ones simply become more corrupt and the poor ones have zero chance to rising to the higher parts of the hierarchy. It's a pretty sad country.
