Legally - not so much.

Downloading or ripping your blue ray is the same legally. It's illegal. My point is you might as well just download it and save yourself the hassle.

Actually, it's not the same. Downloading invokes copyright law, for which there are defenses such as fair use. Ripping invokes both copyright law and the DMCA. There is no fair use defense to the DMCA.

Exactly. Plus, no one ever got "caught" ripping a movie they owned. Plenty of people have been caught downloading, however. College campuses crack down like crazy in particular.

Plus, downloading is quite a hassle too. If you've done it a while you don't mind it, but if you're just the average movie aficionado, who wants to search through illegal torrents with names like +[NR-G_ReleazeGroupNinjas==Children_of_Men_1080p-BDRIP-AC3]Esp.subtitles.Video.Release.]+.torrent while a bunch of shady insurance and dating ads play in the background telling you you've won a free iPod? Not me.
