A Rivian pulled in front of me the other day and I thought if I had hit it my ins. cost would double and the Rivian would get totaled for even a minor accident. Unimpressed. Lucid too, tho it looks nicer. I don't mind electrics but these are are so over the top. Raises everyone's ins. cost here in Austin. Not even gonna mention all the Muskmobiles and rollyrobots...😎

Scenario 1: no internet, you’ll Bluetooth the songs you’ve downloaded on your Music subscription to your Rivian and Tesla.
No thanks, I’d rather have CarPlay for my downloaded music and maps

I understand bashing Apple’s AI implementation is currently low hanging fruit.., however I wouldn’t count them out forever. Rather I think that AI has become an even more compelling reason to inevitably prefer Apple solutions. My bet is that they figure out highly user centric applications of AI which are privacy focused and even more customers demand those integrations wherever possible.

My car will certainly be Apple compatible for many years to come. In whichever evolution that takes. CarPlay, SiriUltra, etc. Gladly I have no desire to buy Rivian, although I would have considered them if they had deeper Apple Integration than competitors.

Since cancelling my Tesla connectivity subscription ($$$$$$), the Tesla UI is mostly useless to me outside of navigation & car basics like AC/heat. I’d love CarPlay in the Tesla because I’m tired of paying more subscriptions.
you can just hotspot through your phone, CarPlay is crap, TeslaUI wins on all accounts

As a long-time user of CarPlay, I used to think like the comments here. But having seen Rivian's user interface and the deep integration with the car that they have already implemented, and with their AI assistant just coming online, there is zero chance I would use CarPlay if I could use it. I can stream Apple Music, Tidal, Spotify (cough cough), and YouTube on the Rivian R2 I'm in line to buy.

Considering Apple was a complete failure on making a car of their own, there is simply no way I would expect their taking over the user interface of my car is going to lead to anything but mediocrity, and a complete mess. I don't need more computers in my car than necessary, and adding the iPhone for what will be useful is there in their Connect Plus subscription.

Do you think the navigation system of CarPlay is going to be able to plan my trip with details like where all possible charging spots are, how many slots at the SuperCharger are open, how much change I'll have when I arrive, how much charge I'll have at the end of the day, and which ones can do the best fast charge, tell me how long I'll be spending there charging, and what food places are nearby? Yeah, no, it won't give me all those details.

Why would Rivian hobble themselves using Apple's APIs? Y'all go buy the cars that don't care enough about owning the whole stack. I'll think different. (What other company does that? Hmmm...)

what a cockamamie explanation. they should just own up to the real reason, or offer no explanation at all instead of insulting us this way. i would not consider a car without carplay

Yeah, Toyota made the same argument. They would NEVER lose control of the infotainment stack. They would foist their repugnant Entune system on everyone. You will pay $50K for it and you will love it and thank them for giving it to you!!!!

Until the independent market consultants found they were losing sales. Not a few sales, THOUSANDS of sales. Which at $50K is almost like real money. Even TESLA has caved to MARKET demands.

For Riven? Meh. They will probably not be able to make payroll in August. So that boat has sailed. Or sunk!

I’ll just stay a happy Hyundai driver, happily using my CarPlay in my vehicle that has twice the features for half the price.

This is one of the most stupid statements from someone I’ve ever read. How out of touch is this guy? Why not offer a choice to your customers? If your system is better than CarPlay’s, then let folks decide and use that on their own.

That internal survey they made up doesn’t exist I imagine.

I am a Rivian owner and participated in the survey.

Like so many here who’ve never driven a Rivian, I used to think CarPlay was imprtant.

I don’t miss it at all and indicated as much in the survey.

It is very simple:
no carplay = no car sale.

The third party provider is not going to have the apps or develop the app eco system that I want. Having an “AI” head unit is not going to solve that in any way shape or form. Whether I want to listen to a radio station from back home, listen to music on a certain platform I am paid into, …

I have two late model cars with CarPlay a BMW and a Volvo. I never use CarPlay. I prefer the cars' in built features and apps.

Plus, it gives more personality to the car than just using the apple interface that is the same everywhere.

Maybe in some vehicles CarPlay is a step up, but I like the interfaces in my vehicles and again, it keeps them feeling like their respective brands to me.

You can get a 3rd party screen like a s3xy dash which supports carplay.

I am very much driving; Apple makes sure of that by seriously curbing what we can do within carplay approved apps.

I just don’t see hundreds or thousands of devs start making apps for rivian, tesla, gm and co

When they can just stick with CarPlay and Android Auto.

They can waste time on whatever crap they are building but to not even offer CarPlay/Android Auto is just stupid. Same with GM. Obviously they just want a subscription model.

Rivian owners are increasingly less interested in CarPlay

I would be less interested in it as well if the car I just dropped 6 figures on didn't come with it.

I would always prefer to buy a vehicle that has support for CarPlay or Android Auto. Not happy with these custom softwares.

Rivian probably just doesn’t want the liability of drivers choosing to drive into oncoming traffic when shown a Liquid Glass UI element or pops up ads doe AppleTV shows
