Huh? You know how long it'd take to open an excel spreadsheet on the iPad, modify 10-15 cells, save it, then attach it to an email and reply with a paragraph of text? About 20x longer than if you had a keyboard\track pad and full version of Excel.... to those who are saying it's just a glorified iPad I'm really in awe that you think this way. iOS vs Mac OS is like a bicycle vs a car.

Even a simple copy/paste is a lot more time consuming on an iPad than on a Mac, and I don't necessarily get the text selection right the first time. You can do a lot with an iPad, but it isn't necessarily easy or efficient at all.

Agreed, it's great for what it is, a larger iPhone... but even at this point I find myself just doing what I need to do on my iPhone, and my Macbook Air... the iPad is good for putting bedside in a hotel attached to my Jambox... but yeah, I find I get really frustrated with copy and paste.

Not even close. The ipad is a toy. The rMB is a fully fledged computer.
Though I do agree that the rMB is overpriced. $1000 would have been a more attractive price for me.

Compare it to a 13" 8/256 MBA - the price is the same. You get more ports and longer run time on the MBA, but it's got a horrible display and it's a -lot- bigger. At a grand, you would have gotten 4gb of RAM and probably a 128 gb SSD.

Depends on the use, but I would definitely put that money into an rMB. I thought an iPad would be great for me with the occasional class and my commute, but the iPads have not met my needs/wants.

I'd rather have Full OSX, retina screen etc.

Why are you comparing the 2015 rmb to the 2014 mba? Even so, the mba 2014 is still more powerful than the 2015 rmb.

https://www.macrumors.com/2015/03/13/2015-macbook-air-pro-benchmarks/

The geek bench for the processor in the rmb clocks it in at around 4600, while the mba low end model 2015 mba is over 5000.

You're been "extremely" selective of the test you are using. The M cores clocks down to 2GHz for the multicore test (power and heat now doubt). Single core tests for the 1.2M are all higher than the i51.6 at 2865 vs 2691 respectively and more representative of what most people will see (unless doing graphic intense application - in which case the MBA is still the wrong machine...)

Heres a more complete comparison.

Why didn't Apple didn't put an LTE or HSPA+ radio in the rMB?

This makes it impossible for a rMP to fully replace an iPad when on the road.

Also, the fact that you can:
1) Leave your iPad in your bag when going through airport security
2) Use your iPad during take offs and landings

This makes it impossible for a rMP to fully replace an iPad when on the road.

Because they don't want people to forgo the purchase of the iPad. Ideally, they want you to buy the rMB for content creation and the iPad for content consumption. Why create a product that will purposely decrease another, iPAd sales are decreasing (or not growing) as it is, why cause that issue to be exaggerated

You are being extremely selective by comparing the high end $1599 retina macbook against the base model macbook air.

Here is an actual real comparison showing the base model retina macbook against the base model macbook air. Note the air is more powerful which is to be expected. Did you really think that magically a 5watt ultra low power processor was going to outperform a processor using significantly more power?

The 5Y71 is where most people will be no doubt - its closer to the 5250 in terms of the boost speed and which every measure you use, the reviewers are saying the same, there's no "real" performance increase in one over the other. So all the bravado from the MBA owners is just that, absolutely no reason on paper why the rMP won't perform all the tasks this segment would want equally as well in a lighter package with better battery life.

Personally, id go rMP everyday, but id rather have the rMBP as i want more power.
