Why not just have an iPad then? Half the price. You are spending twice the money for a keyboard?

Why do people bring up the iPad when it runs iOS and Macs run OS X. They run entirely different software. The limitations go far beyond a keyboard.

Because the people who say they don't really do any photo or video editing or anything graphic intensive and do mostly internet, email, youtube, calendar, keynote, pages etc...might as well just buy an iPad and save some money. I can do all that on my iPad just fine. They are basically spending an additional $800+ for a keyboard and a slightly larger display.

Lol you're entire post is what is wrong with this forum. According to you there can be nothing in-between an iPad and a rMBP? How about this, why don't you save some money and buy a PC? You can get one that has much better specs than a base rMBP for much cheaper. See how that works? It's okay for you to spend hundreds more on a rMBP due to it being an Apple, but it's wrong for someone to spend hundreds more to not own a tablet. You sir are a genius.

Valid point! :p

What happens when you need to charge your Macbook but you also need a free port for something else? Oops. Its going to be interesting to see how many people who think they can live without basic things every, single laptop has like multiple ports do once they only have one.

This is, again, assuming people have that much need for ports. But you're right, if they want to do both at the same time, they'll need a dongle. I imagine the people who gets this laptop though to not have the need for doing both at the same time, at least not very often.

And you arguing the same but from a different prospective. It works vice versa as well. You look at the same river but from different banks.

A different opinion is not ranting. It is simply a divergent viewpoint.

Uhm, no I don't. I'm not telling people what they should get based on MY needs. I'm saying that those who gets this laptop won't give a crap about dexters needs, they'll only care about their own needs.

Sure, if we who aren't getting this computer wants to give tips and advice, we can do so, which I have been doing, but saying that they shouldn't get it because it doesn't fit ME, is just stupid - which is what dexter is trying to do - even after people have told him that they DON'T need the extra power the MBP 13" provides.

I'm all for different opinions but again, telling someone they shouldn't get this computer because *I* don't need it, is not an opinion, that's a statement. And quite frankly, a very arrogant one at that.

There is a world, several actually, between editing a document in Word or a spreadsheet in Excel on an iPad vs. a Mac.

Because I need a computer.

That's kind of why the MBA exists, you know ? Just because I don't use the USB or TB ports doesn't means I'm not using the *computer*.

Where do you see five times as thick? Im looking at the specs now. The rMBP 13 is about an inch wider and an inch more depth. I see nowhere where its even close to five times as thick as the Macbook. Of course the dongle can stay in a bag but thats not where it will stay for long as you will need it for almost everything you do aside from charging it overnight. As I said, the sleek Macbook won't look so pretty with a foot long, multiple headed monstrosity hanging off the side of it. If you have the Macbook on your lap, where are you putting the dongle? Drape it over your legs? Real comfortable and stylish haha

MacBook minimum thickness: .14"
13" rMBP thickness: .71"

Do I need to do the math for you too?

I travel between 100-150 days a year. I see thousands of Macs in use all over the world. What ports are typically in use? The headphone jack and to a lesser extent, the power cord. For a computer that is primarily designed to be mobile, the intersection between times when you need to charge and you need to have another device connected, while mobile, is extremely low.

Not really. Some of us need a desktop OS to get work done. Even if we're not doing photo/video editing or anything graphics intensive, that doesn't mean we aren't doing work on our Macs.

My causal work device simply needs Office, Mail, Safari, and iTunes. My iPad can do that, but I still have to bring my Mac with me sometimes because our collaborative project needs dictate it.

iOS can be limiting.
