So I am at the ARS and I have to return it...they don't have any in stock and it will take 4-6wks

Mine came in Dead on Arrival. The computer wouldn't charge and after a PMC reset instructed by Apple support, the laptop is now officially dead. It won't even turn on. Why would I put up with this and not even get compensated for being an early adopter..... Simple.... Apple DOES NOT CARE...

You know that you have 14 days to return it no questions asked? How is that not helpful? I'd rather just get a new one if somethings not working that go through the hassle of it getting fixed and having the worry it may happen again at any point.

What did you do then? Order another of just go for the 13 inch Pro?

You are frustrated you got a lemon and whinging about apple when from all reports they are doing all they can to help.

You are complaining about a fact of modern life, all companies do their best to stop these things happening but they'll never stop it completely.

Take a chill pill and be a bit more philosophical, there are far more things to worry about than your new toy taking a few more days to get to you!!!

It seems like you guys are reading way too much into this. I'm sorry I even replied to this thread. No chill pill needs to be taken.

So I woke up to this screen. Called AppleCare and they could not resolve the issue now I am headed to the local ARS. I might be getting the rMBP. It's heavier and has more power than I need but I don't need these issues. If they have another rMB in stock I might exchange it. I am really disappointed. I think FileVault may have played a role but I am not an expert. I will let you know what the genius had to say.

Seems like a hardware issue. Perhaps the motherboard or something died. Sorry you had to deal with this sort of issue, really kills the fun of having a new laptop. Hope you get it repaired soon!

It does if the local recovery is broken.

Interesting - I've never had a broken recovery partition, I guess. When I boot with CMD + R I get reinstallation from the recovery partition. As a side note, I've read that Apple support page before and don't find it particularly clear or well-organized. ;)

I second that one.

I normally blow away the entire system drive and create a single partition for OS X which borks recovery. CMD+R always brings up internet recovery for me due to this :)

So that got a laugh, which is always good on a Friday morning! Out of pure curiosity, why? It doesn't recover much space - other reasons?

Habit I guess. It was something I've done with Windows systems as their recovery partitions tend to be a lot larger and I never used recovery in Windows (who needs the bloatware reinstalled?). It just carried over into Mac.

Plus by the time I do a recovery, I prefer internet recovery since it will have the current OS X version instead of an older one and then running updates.

EDIT: And I'm glad you got a laugh. It is a good Friday today, everyone should be in a good mood :)

I tried all of that and still no go.

This circle slash sign gets drawn by the boot loader which means that SSD is alive (blinking folder with question mark inside on the other hand means that EFI could not find any bootable volumes). If you hold the Option key while powering it on, do you see any volume icons?

You can configure WiFi settings then and then press Command+Option+R to try Internet recovery. Good luck!

Thank you for that suggestion we definitely try that as well we tried quite a few different options but it still would not boot up properly so I'm at the store I decided to go ahead and just purchased the 13 inch MacBook Pro because I didn't want to wait for 4 to 6 weeks

Good choice. Just get back to work and move on.

The retail people could have done a MUCH better job of communicating with both US and foreign purchasers about timing and availability, though. That's a self-inflicted wound.

Senior Vice President of Retail and Online Stores, enough said. Maybe Angela`s waiting for her new MacBook to explain this botched launch...

Do you understand how business works? You think the senior VP of auto sales would be in trouble for an assembly plant in China not cranking out enough cars to meet demands? Of course not. You go to whoever is in charge of that plant and demand answers. The Quanta employees dropped the ball, has nothing to do with the senior VP of retail and online stores.

Much more so than you. In corporate if some else errors, it does not automatically absolve you from your responsibilities. Retail stores no stock, with no explanation and a general lack of communication to the customer, even her own retail staff are completely unclear of the situation...
