The iPad Pro is going to bomb. It's too uncomfortable to use as an iPad and too lethargic to use as a MacBook. I appreciate Mr. Cook's hype-track, but it's not going to work. It'll be a niche product for the Creative industry and those who prefer to scribble on a tablet instead of a whiteboard, but nothing more.

It certainly hard to see why it would be popular. It's a potentially a nice piece of hardware but where's the killer apps or innovation in using a Iphone/Ipad on steroids with a pencil for most of us who can't draw freehand

I recently bought an iPad Pro 128GB. Together with my rMB I seem to own now 2 potentially dangerous gadgets. Well, when these eventually blow up, I still have my 15" rMBP (2012 model) ;)

Joke aside, I love all my "toys". Real work still gets done on the 27" iMac most of the time. Before I bought the iPP I looked closely at the Surface Pro 4, but when I found out about all the problems (short battery life, no real sleep mode, etc.) I decided to go iPP for the "pen experience". Also, the SP4 with the m3 processor is only available in a crippled variant with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD, which would not be sufficient to replace my rMB (1.2GB model with 512GB SSD). Going for a higher end model gets expensive very fast, too much just for playing around.

The iPP was less of a risky investment, in my opinion. But I fully agree that iOS is not there yet. If you look into the iPad forum it seems that some consider this a good feature. Let's see how iOS evolves next year! For now I enjoy the iPP as it is, a fantastic media consumption device, a good Wacom tablet replacement (with Astropad) and a nice second monitor for my "real" computers.

catch 22. It's not popular because it lacks apps. It lacks apps because (only a) few have bought it. I guess the price is 200€/$ too high.

I personally made the switch from a 2012 15" retina MBP to a base model rMB and have had no performance issues whatsoever. If anything, the rMB is much less laggy. For my use case, it's been perfect. I travel a lot so the difference in weight has made a huge difference. I have not had the need to use a USB stick or connect it to a monitor in the couple of months I've had it, even though I have adaptors for such situations. It's a device that actually makes tons of sense in the age of wifi, cloud storage, airdrop, etc. I was actually pretty skeptical when it first came out, but the retina screen and form factor are incredible.
