Well since you have done everything that has been suggested and you are still throttling my next step would be repasting the CPU and GPU to see if you can shave off a few degrees from your max temps.

Or you can take it into an Apple store and have them check it out. Explain whats up maybe they can help.

Either way your machine is running too hot and it will throttle forever no matter what you do which is not a solution and certainly not what you want.

You have a higher end CPU so your machine is going to run hotter to some degree but you should be able to use it without throttling otherwise why even own it.

Lastly may i suggest if you are not doing it is prop up the back end of the machine while gaming as i have mine propped up with a couple Pill bottle caps that are about half an inch tall which helps cool air pass under it .

Notebook coolers are a waste on the Macbook unibody IMHO but propping up the back end will help keep it abit cooler.

I think I'll take it to the Apple Store...

I did a test on OS X. 3D rendering in Cinema 4D and Unigine Heaven 4.0. Here's the video: http://youtu.be/bTZZEtLq2ok
CPU throttle to 1.8-2 ghz.

edit: I use a stand with a fan, which is turned ON, for my macbook

2nd edit: very interesting information - 3rd post from top https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4361064?start=15&tstart=0

So today I take my MacBook to the local Reseller. After a long conversation with the vendors who offered to take the laptop to a local authorized service center and refused to accept it at the store. Came the manager, who said that the Russian service centers is **** (I know this is true) and offered to send it, along with store personnel to the United States in the Apple Store. I decided that this was the best option. I can write a letter describing the problem. What to write to Apple to pay their attention on the problem of overheating, and not just bad pixels? Laptop like works, the problem is that he can not work stable on the stock frequencies.

Not really related, but remember that the GPU in it self doesnt need to get warm for it to throttle.

If the CPU gets too hot, it will lower the CPU and the GPU, since they arent far from each other on the logic board, do minimize heat.

Hope you fix it.

I wouldnt say its a problem with macbooks and overheating, its probably just a bad thermal paste job, like in the 2011 macbook pros. To much thermal paste etc.

The Zalman ZM-NC3000S is a notebook cooler with a 220mm fan that covers the whole bottom of the laptop. I wouldn't dream of gaming on my MBP without it sitting on one.

Thanks for the help! I also noticed that when I play FIFA13, GPU temperature is about 78-80 when 99% load, CPU - 80, and there are only rare throttling of GPU from 900mhz to 797 when the CPU heats up to 85 degrees.

It runs fairly well on my rMBP. I play at 1680*1050, with low settings and medium textures. I didn't see a 1440*900 option unfortunately, that would be perfect for me, but i get a solid 30 fps. The latest driver from Nvidia's website is specifically for Crysis 3, so try that.

right click desktop
Nvidia controlpanel
Resolution
Make custom 1440x900 resolution
Will now show up in any game

I get 60fps with 1440x900. High textures, low system spec. With over clocked gpu. Even in low it still looks 90% better the any other game out there

The newest drivers are Crysis 3 ready yes. But
far from optimized
