Wait

I think it is best to wait until the next release of the rmbp, because in the next release of the rmbp the faults in the model will be sorted out.

That's hardly been true of ipads and iphones in recent years.

The only reason i would wait is for the inevitable re-introduction of the battery indicator and/or LED sleep light.

Yeah i miss these things, when i look on my brothers MacBook Pro 13" but then i think one more time... How often do you use the battery indicator ? And how often do you use the led sleep light ?

Because if you can't remember if you closed your Mac or if you just closed the lit on it then you have a serious problem man!

I see a point in the battery indicator but how often do you use it ? Just look at the MacBook Air there are these things also removed from..

Where would you actually place either of those features on the Macbook Air? I always thought it made sense for the Apple logo to be the sleep light but that would require the screen to turn on and off adversely affecting battery life.

If you would like to belong to the very exclusive kool-aid drinkers club, then buy it now!!!, else you'll be banned forever :D

Joking aside,

except youre not joking.. arent you embarrased that this is your function on these forums? just contribute or duck out. seriously. Not trying to be rude but you manage to pop your head into every thread and try to ruffle feathers.

Yeah thats right...
But how often do you really use them ? I can clearly say my brother and my friends that has a cMBP they use them in like the first week or two and then they don't use the battery indicator.. The sleep indicator is another story..

I would wait until more applications actually support it.
Personally I think it's pretty awesome, but just a bit before its time. I certainly am in no rush to jump onto that ship just yet ;)

Most apps are pushing HiDPI retina support with their ML compatibilty updates and those should be coming en masse once ML officially released by the end of the month.

The only criteria for deciding whether to buy it is 1) do you need a new computer right now either because your old one reaching end of life or is the performance the rMBP offers for work-related tasks beneficial and 2) can you afford it. If yes for both, then place the order, otherwise wait for next year's revision. Waiting just means that you enjoy the novelty of owning the best laptop on the market for less amount of time before the next revision comes next summer. Trust me, it's worth it and no complaints so far after a month of use.

I don't think its going to happen.

I'm afraid you might be right, given how they are marketing the screen as "reduced glare". I really don't know what Apple's hard on with shiny glossy is. Even offering the antiglare option as a BTO through the online store would be fine.

Probably for the majority of consumers if you walk in to a store the glossy has way way better contrast and looks beautiful... until you get it home and use it out side...

I have to say I think the glare on the rMBP is pretty low now I have no complaints coming from a very glossy screen I don't even see it!!!

The original iPad didn't have so many issues.

As for the battery indicator and sleep light, don't hold your breath, sport.

I wasn't ever holding out for a sleep light, just battery indicator.

They brought back the backlit keyboard the year after the refreshed Macbook air so perhaps an indication of the same happening for those features.

Then as I said, leave the antiglare option as Build-To-Order only available online.

The glare is far less, but it still is no match to an antiglare (matte) screen. It just annoys me that Apple doesn't offer both, as I'd love to have an antiglare RMBP and Cinema Display.

It's nothing to do with which is better, it's just to do with preference and what I find easier on the eyes in bright environments.

Hmm, you didn't like my joke :D Sorry to hurt your feelings, don't take it personal... My advice is still valid whether you like it or not.

By the way, Mister Medium, what's your contribution? You better duck out...

no, i think you are an instigator and a troll.. joke :)

As far as the aforementioned UI lagginess is concerned, check out an AnandTech.com's review. THey go into great detail about the limitations between the software scaling and the hardware's capabilities with regards to certain image formats and a few other items (which largely contributes to the lag, specifically on facebook.com due to the large number of JPG's used). In other words, they are suggesting that it's likely going to stay the same (< 30fps) when scrolling around sites like facebook even with mountain lion.

though, again, from what i understand, ML will help things, but not enough for specific sites. folks with the cMBP and MBA will have a better/smoother experience on sites like facebook because there is no pixel scaling and calculations to make for JPGs specifically (e.g., no retina display to account for).

All that to say, I'm looking at getting a rMBP, too. It'll be my primary development and design machine, while my current ivy bridge hackintosh will be my all around server/transcoder/ripper/etc.

It is not the same to add some humour to a contribution without pointing to someone in particular than insulting directly someone as you do. Don't you understand the difference?

Duck out little sick fanatic... This was an insult for instance, no joke :D

Hi I'm deciding wether I should cancel my RMBP base model with 16GB ram order and wait till the next generation are released e.g. will the next gen base RMBP have a significantly faster CPU and GPU and more SSD storage. Also around what month next year will apple release the new one, what do you think I should do?
As others have said, if you need it now then buy it now. The biggest change I would expect to see in the next-generation MacBook Pro with retina display is a price reduction more than anything else. I bet Apple wants so badly to kill off the legacy MacBook Pro, but they won't until the 8GB/256GB SSD configuration can be sold for $1,799 or close to it.

I came here looking for the answer to the same question mate.. And then I noticed.. Most people who have replied already own one and they do not regret buying it (be it first gen or whatever).. Also I have never owned a MacBook till now.. so I have decided to place an order and just hope that I get a good piece with no/ least bugs or problems.. Now shipping with ML as well.. I'm thinking 2.6/16/512 will serve me well.. Primary use will be Video and Audio Editing with a hint of Character Modelling & Animation... Does anyone have any idea if Maya is Retina ready? I don't see any point in spending $500 on a 768 storage upgrade as you can buy a USB3 external HD with over 1TB for less than half the amount... Even the CPU upgrade 2.6 -> 2.7 seems pointless (worth $200 :O) only thing worth noting in that upgrade is the 8M Cache as opposed to the 6M on the 2.6.. Helps in application load times etc

no, maya is not ready nor have they indicated any commitment to updating for retina at all. autodesk only has hints that autocad will be updated but who knows when. nor are there any audio editing applications that are retina optimized. do you use photoshop? that probably won't be ready for another 6 months at the least. prepare for a long wait.

i would never use maya on osx anyway. i run maya from windows and its fine and looks great, the extra real estate is a MAJOR step up from any screen on e market. i use logicpro on the macside and it looks great, couldnt even tell it wasnt retina optimized until a certain someone around here bit my head off for thinking so.

if you want to do maya and sculpting and audio on the windows side (cubase, protools, whatever) just get a windows machine. But retina looks amazing and I could never go back. Different strokes for different folks. Just take the "youll be waiting forever" comments with a grain of salt. Get all your apps ready, get the machine and install everything. if its unbearable take it back, no problem.

edit. by the way, if you edit with fcpX its retina optimized and looks crazy good.

Yes I do use photoshop every now and then.. I got a Dell XPS 16(1640 top end customized).. It's old ('09) but it runs all apps w/o much fuss.. And sad to hear no retina for maya :( LogicPro also not optimized ? Well, as I said I have never owned a MacBook so am quite excited about getting one as I do have cash to spare for one.. I heard Final Cut is optimized so I'm clear there.. Adobe products to receive updates.. Willing to wait :) not like my work is getting delayed or anything.. Got back up personal pc and got access to a whole Apple infiltrated studio to get what needs to get done :p

I know!! I visited the local Apple Store and got a hands on the rMBP.. My god.. I had tears looking at the gorgeous screen.. Not even the OLED screen on my Dell XPS made me feel like what I felt then.. I wanted to get one but then heard that a bad batch is out and people experiencing issues.. So I thought I should wait a couple of months (while they start shipping with ML) + wanted 16 gig of RAM which is only available on the online store... Do you think it will be wise to install Windows 7 on rMBP with 2.6/16/512 spec?

seriously man, people love to blow stuff out of proportion. yes some things look fuzzy, but EVERYTHING looks fuzzy now on every other screen ive looked at since the retina. i was in bb the other day and every laptop screen on the floor made me feel like i had cataracts. And heres a link to the other thread where i posted a screen grab of logic. and it looks better in real life on a retina screen. animating in maya is a dream on the retina in windows.

have fun

i did on a 256 through parallels no less, and have plenty of room left.

Haha. Thanks for the insight mate :) Saw the screen grab.. Logic does look decent.. So you are saying you run OS X and Windows simultaneously isit? Without performance drops? I'd love to try that out myself when I get mine.. 512 (internal) storage is more than enough.. I got nearly 4 TB of external drives..
